Started fab about a year ago and come to the same conclusion! My gamer friends had a hard time engaging with fab but jumped right into swu with no problem
This game totally took me by surprise! First impressions were the art was cartoonish and didn't grab me, and I was skeptical about FFG's track record. After watching a bunch of videos and reading about the roadmap for the game, I picked up some boxes from my LGS along with my Fallout MTG pre-order. The game actually looks like it might have some legs! Now I'm excited to crack more boxes and build some decks🤩

True they did keep star wars legion going until Asmodee came and took it away. Hopefully they stick with this unlike their living card game models they seemed to jump off ship of.
@@schroecat1 L5R deserved so much more I remember playing the original version in the late 90s as little kid when I heard it was coming back I was excited until I saw FF did the bare minimum of releasing anything for it
There's no such thing as a sure success, but I think this has a hell of a chance. FFG really seems to understand they need to win over the skeptics and so far they've done everything right in that regard.
I have to admit, as a devoted fan of the Decipher Star Wars CCG, I am very excited to see a new card game hit the shelves. The Hyperspace cards are genius, one of the reasons I got sucked in. Very excited for the future on this one. You opened an incredible box in the video, wow!!
I have been an extremely casual Pokémon card player my knowledge of TCGs in general is very baseline. I don't know the back story off FFG and all that. But for me personally this is an entry point to a card game of an IP I love the most and I have dived in and will continue to be a part of this TCG as much as I can. Luckily I grabbed a starter set and a few boosters opening day because everything Unlimited is sold out now but as soon as my shops get more I'm getting more cards. I want to build decks. My wife wants to build decks. I want to go to the shops hosting Unlimited nights which I have never done for any TCG before. I only played Pokémon with dated cards with a few friends. So this has me in. Maybe it will give me an itch to look at other card games. So for those critical of it I would say this is good for the TCG community because it took a mid 30 year old middle class family in the suburbs to the shop and engaging in a type of gaming they never really bothered with before. I'm sure my wife and I aren't the only ones like this.
Mtg neckbeards got their panties in a bunch. Yeah I’ve been pissed at FFG… but I truly hope they’ve learned from past failures and are ready to crush it with this game. Got a couple set boxes and it’s just awesome so far.
I've tried to get into MTG as my first CCG game but it felt overwhelming with all the special terminology. I got absolutely destroyed playing against experienced players. This looks FAR more easier to get in to, and a lot of fun as well. I also like the theme and artwork style more
6:53 Agreed. I collect magic but only play with close friends. It's ridiculous playing at events if you're a casual like me. But this, this is right up my alley. Plus all of us are new because the game is so new. Love it
I've only got the pre release box so far. Looking through the rules it's incredibly simplistic. I plan on getting more cards though although I mostly just want to play the game. I only pulled 1 legendary which it feels really rare to get 1. I do like that you get 16 cards per pack. The only thing I don't like is the number of cards in the set feel like it should have been half that number for a first set.
I realised its popularity when I went to a local games shop where they do every week torunaments of Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, DnD and plenty of other TCGs and RPGs. They always sell some SW sets for the various miniature games and card games but generally nobody wants to play SW games over there, however, I was really surprised when I asked about Unlimited over there and the guy said they've been having weekly tournaments of Unlimited and that all their boosters were sold out, and during the time I was there another guy came in asking for Unlimited boosters. Happy that people are playing this game and that there's a local community.
I played a game of SWU before the armory this week. It was a lot of fun to play! Won't be opening any product but I will def. be playing the game casually if anyone else picks it up locally.
I LOVE the game. It has gotten my younger son into TCGs for the first time. Hell my oldest and I have completely put Flesh and Blood on the back burner to keep playing SWU.
I love it so far. All of our local shops are sold out. People assumed it would be bad because of FFGs checkered history. This one seriously feels like it's gonna break the mold created by past failures. Can't wait to lean into the game even more and already itching for the next set
FFG was doing such a great job with Legion and X-wing. Then assmode (not a typo) took that away and gave it to AMG. Then AMG killed x-wing. This game will be fine as long as AMG doesn’t get ahold of it.
My son and I went to our first learn to play tonight, it was intense being that we only know Pokemon but it was fun! We will spend a bit of time learning at our pace but deffo think this will be one to enjoy for the long haul
I mean, here’s what I’ll say. I think the game has huge potential. If FFG can keep it up and devote to it. I think it’ll be in the ranks with Lorcana and one piece. Possibly some of the other A tier card games. The other thing is FFG is great at communicating that they’ve dropped the ball in the past with other games and recognizing that is the first step to success.
I haven't heard anyone who tried it being negative here, it got sold out in 2 days. 3 biggest vaule I pulled a IG-88 alternate, vader, and a relentless hyperspace foil.
Haven’t played any TCG’s in years so I’m about as blue collar as they come to this style of gaming. But got to play this at Emerald City comic con this year and had a lot of fun. My buddy and I used to play the old Star Wars card game back in the day and to be honest I’m sure we could pull that out now and still have fun so I don’t really understand the concept of measuring the games funability, if you will 😁 based on its future support. But, I mostly play board games so I am a little used to maybe an expansion or two then that’s it. But come on it’s Star Wars! Cheers!
Vader and Luke are starter set exclusives, so he was guaranteed to get both if he bought the starter set. The foiled Vader and Luke are pre release pack exclusives so was also guaranteed both of them if he bought that.

As - pretty much - always, people expressing negative feelings against something tend to be louder than the ones loving it. So far game looks to be doing great, let hope it will get proper support in the years to come!
I love this game and played it at GenCon last year. That being said, I will pick up the game once the set rotates and the cards and packs are at bargain bin prices. If Destiny was any indicator, you should be able to pick up a full playset for < $100 once the first 3 sets rotate out.
@@mlgmantis No. After 3 sets, all the cards up that point will no longer be legal for tournament play. It’s not an eternal format like FaB. Source for set rotation: I asked Jeremy Zwirn myself at GenCon 2023.
i do believe that if this game takes off... a sealed box of the first set will become very very valuable in the future.... Pokemon obviously is the most expensive... but the first set in One Piece is skyrocketing in price as they become harder and harder to get
Tcgplayer raced to the bottom for about 24 hours before the supply of most cards got destroyed. Anyone I know who has played a few games has been hooked.

Sure a handful of cards look ok, but I hate the overall art style, also it’s only Disney canon characters. If they had only film characters it would appeal more to certain ppl, also it’s a TCG game, so I don’t see why they can’t throw in an old EU set. Other than that I have no issues with the game.
Might buy a starter set just to have, but track record is just too bad for Star Wars CCGs to invest...I guess there is always A NEW HOPE 😆 Good luck, but looks like a pass for me.
Is it!? Haven't they sold (to date) around 5000 boxes ($380k)? While Lorcana's newest release has sold 14k (+1$ Million). What is FFG actually saying on sales?
must have been my rock ceiling but would you make a video on how to play the thing or show in what context this game is supposed to be played. You know, because just cards no rules, is ... just cards.
I do go over a lot of the basics in ruclips.net/video/u2K7I7zcDkg/видео.html but it is not meant to be a full how to play video. Otherwise there are about a million how to play videos out there 😅
The artwork just isn't for me, even being quite a Star Wars fan and obviously a big TCG nerd. I do think that the game is actually pretty fun to play though!
part is the fact there has been failed star wars CCG all ready then the art on a couple mane carters looks like Cr** the game play is fun the art is ok i guess but the big problem im having is the randomition of the boxes its a bit jacked up
Nice clickbait dude! Do you have most Magic players or Taco followers. 😂 In Europe most displays Sold Out and Lg:s has started re-order already. This product has good quality in the printing and foiling.
FFG said that they have NEVER dedicated this many resources to any game ever in their past. They are trying to make sure this one will last for all you negative Nancy's out there. At least it's not trash like MTG and its players
I am the biggest star wars fan (look at my avatar). I have been engaged with Star Wars since 1977. This game may be a good game but the art is absolute trash. I watched multiple box openings in person. Also Star Wars draws a lot of hype. FFG does not have a great track record either (Destiny, X-Wing, etc.). To me investing hundreds if not thousands of dollars into another Star Wars game so they can just shut it down after 2 to 3 years makes no sense. If you enjoy it, that is great, but don't try to brush aside the real issues that this game faces. I will stick with FAB for now.
no one’s brushing aside real issues, if you’d actually look at the work they’ve put into this game you’d realize it’s gonna be around for a long time, this is the biggest team they’ve had on a game, developed the game with op- competitive- and sealed all in mind from the beginning, made a great website which they haven’t really done before, and they’re currently working on sets 7-9 already. you can’t just hate on them for their past without looking to see what they’ve done now
I am glad they are working on sets 7-9. I have evaluated the game and the art is bad and the game play isn't anything really substantial (It parallels Commander a lot). Add the FFG's past to the mix and it is reasonable to approach this with caution. @@tesla6938
Showed the game to some board game friends and the wife. Feedback was a little cringey and the odd outright laugh at the worst brutal art examples. Wonder if they will re-release it with proper replacement art.
Personally i think they are going to push out too much too quick and start to stagnate. 2 sets a year would do well but pushing out a third makes me feel like we got a 5 year window before the ideas start disappearing.
The biggest issue i see with this game going forwards is if this is going to be a TRUE print to demand game…. People are really enjoying the COLLECTIBILITY of this game right now. If they print this to oblivion and card prices tank and you cab find this game everywhere at all times it will lose a lot of people in the long run. Has anyone heard what print runs are like for this game???
Dislaimer… i just bought 20 boxes of this game and I love it. I hope FF games has it figured out and it doesnt end after three years because they screw up the collectibility/investment side of this game with print run issues.
I'll be honest. I Don't want the game to succeed much because it takes away from the popularity of my favorite game, but more than that I've seen so many attempts and Star Wars from the Imperial era. I'm just tired of seeing it again. I liked the old republic I bought. There's a great amount of history and interesting things their media could cover. That is not Luke Leia and Han for the 10,000th time
@@TheBuildPhase it was humor. I probably should have separated the paragraphs for context. Really my issue with the game is the second gripe. I'm tired of that era of sw being rehashed
@@andrewostman3135 they are doing prequels and sequels areas. And I’m guessing high republic. Because they can pull from all canon movies, TV, games, and comics. Anything with art and visuals. There a lot more for them to explore. Not just empire area.

Bro is talking about how Star Wars is still a monster IP, naw it’s been dead for a while, Disney has killed it. With that acolyte being another nail in the coffin. The whole card from the ui to artwork is ugly, this entire video is a grift. FFG has abandoned all of there other TCGs so I have zero hope for it. It may appeal to some but it’s still Disney canon, which limits the audience it can reach out to.
Maybe maybe not, magic is pissing people off, standard is dying, people want to play a game where card boxes dont cost 200$ minimum. F&B isn't everyones cup of shit, same with that disney boogaloo magoo game FFG stands to make some real cheddar off this shit.
@@wsmiles8677 Exactly this. I have spent a good chunk of change on magic and its not even my favorite game by far. I really didn't care to jump on FaB and feel like I will end up on a registry with Lorecana. I'm not big on Star Wars beyond the first trilogy but I just like how this looks and plays. That said, I think Fantasy Flight is maybe learning its lesson as its reapproaching how it does some games. The Living Card Game model is truthfully abandoned save for the cooperative stuff, like Lord of the Rings which is on a 2nd printing. SWU seems like they are both staying in their lane as a company and learning how to improve on what they and others have done. Having several formats out of the gate that parallels MtG was smart. Already chatting on Reddit with others about brewing new formats, like a Cube or "Pauper" (which one guy is proposing calling Womprats).
the developers of swu specifically made it easier to get most of the cards you need easier as well giving every card alternate arts so normal arts will be cheaper on the secondary market, they’ve done a lot more than other tcgs
@@tesla6938 Ya, but the price to build and have multiple decks isn't going to get anywhere close to XCGs. To be on par the average cost of a card in a deck would have to not exceed $0.40. I'm currently developing an XCG and will also have the cards up on drivethrucards to buy individual cards.

part is the fact there has been failed star wars CCG all ready then the art on a couple mane carters looks like Cr** the game play is fun the art is ok i guess but the big problem im having is the randomition of the boxes its a bit jacked up
I opened a box today with only 2 legendary cards :(
:(
I would buy it if it didn’t have Disney era SW art
Here in Barcelona we are loving it, but surely not even close as One Piece, DBZ or FAB
Hell yeah let’s go Star Wars
We just miss Destiny
big pass on me
bro casually pulling 9 legendaries in one box
Was two boxes.
@@mastersetmadness ah ok, that's a more realistic pull rate
Fun game but who is making sure the drops are random. Feels not "random" at all.
Nice clickbait dude!
Do you have most Magic players or Taco followers. 😂 In Europe most displays Sold Out and Lg:s has started re-order already.
This product has good quality in the printing and foiling.
Well scroll the comment section... We have a few
it’s not clickbait, i’ve been following this game since it was announced and and there’s been constant negativity, and even more so now that it’s out
this was the best box Ive seen yet
Do you have a favorite?
Favorite card? Hyperspace Foil Luke has probably been my favorite pull so far.
Game is so much fun!
Not true at all. This game is super fun!
@@tesla6938
Like the game a lot. The card art isn't my taste.
That box is crack wtf haha
I'll be honest. I Don't want the game to succeed much because it takes away from the popularity of my favorite game, but more than that I've seen so many attempts and Star Wars from the Imperial era. I'm just tired of seeing it again. I liked the old republic I bought. There's a great amount of history and interesting things their media could cover. That is not Luke Leia and Han for the 10,000th time
Wow. How petty.
You want SWU to fail because your favorite game can't retain players?
That's a pretty wild take.
@@davidslusser8389 yeah but they led with it. I get that it is safe and easy but just not my thing now.
the republic will be set three, but the rebellion is what more people know and they need to build a player base for the game to take off first
Buba Fett? Bro...
buba
I mean the game is fun, but 18 minutes of pure shilling and ball polishing without a single meaningful point is a bit much for me hahahaa
I dont know about doa but i dont find the cards attractive at all. the arts great its the rest of the hud i cant stand
LMAO this video has not aged well. Booster boxes are being scalped and sold for $250+ dollars. you really didnt know what you were talking about this in video. embarrassing
Yes, I, like everyone else, didn't have a time machine. 🤣 Did I make some specific statement that boxes would never ever be $250? Not sure what you are talking about.
no one is saying this. nice click bait.
Uh there have been quite a bit especially in the MTG crowd who won't even give it a chance.

@@Aldana-AloneI read all the comments. None of them is hating how well the game is doing
not clickbait dude, people have been hating on it for a while now
@@joelbergvonlinde1389someone in these comments said they didn’t want it to succeed cause it takes away from their favorite game, and there’s others too, so you’re just lying
FFG is just going to abandon it like all its other games. Don't bother.
Maybe maybe not, magic is pissing people off, standard is dying, people want to play a game where card boxes dont cost 200$ minimum. F&B isn't everyones cup of shit, same with that disney boogaloo magoo game
FFG stands to make some real cheddar off this shit.
They said they already support the game until 2027.. For me that long enough just enjoy and have fun with a superb Star Wars card game.
Honestly I enjoy it so much more than magic I rly hope they don’t abandon it
Personally my "hate" is for TCGs in general. They are just XCGs with extra steps these days
the developers of swu specifically made it easier to get most of the cards you need easier as well giving every card alternate arts so normal arts will be cheaper on the secondary market, they’ve done a lot more than other tcgs
@@tesla6938 It was a nice attempt to keep the normal card prices down.
100% game is dead. Art is trash and any love for Star Wars is at an all time low because of Disney. Plus the TCG instead of LCG aspect... yeah... no.... It's dead. Trust me.
The problem is Star Wars IP is so outdated, and the gameplay is such a copy cat from Magic, sorry, it won’t last.
