The best part of this interview was how Toby’s voice was just text to speech!

Nah it's actually kinda sad. I get that he wants privacy, but the fact that Toby won't even let us hear his voice just seems ridiculous. I wish I knew more about the man who created my favorite game

Me thinks he’s an “eccentric” like Yoko Taro, doesn’t like to show his real face and in his case, also his voice in interviews

So Toby subscribes to the "no one can make a true Mother game besides Itoi" line of thinking. Very based and correct if I do say so myself (no shade towards fan projects).
That should be obvious, though.
Sadly, it also attracts that one group of people that throw a hissy fit at fangames such as Mother 4(s) simply because they think it's not made by Itoi so it has no right to be called Mother 4.
The development of DeltaRune broke him so much... You can hear that in his voice...
I think it's great that Itoi probably would have let Toby direct Mother 4 if he asked, but decided not to. That must have taken a lot of restraint

Also, he's most likely too busy with his own stuff
@@tastethepainbow yeah but he clearly wanted to do it. It's not like he would have been programming or whatever it would likely just be a directorial role
@Kalina Ann that's true. I'm not saying it needs one or even that I want one, it's just interesting that it almost happened. I'm pretty content with the story as is, though.

Yes, I am also exited for the direct, Considering Nintendo and Sigesato Itoi adding Mother 3 to the switch. I always believe this because Of Mother 1/2 on switch.

This was very cool to see. Its common knowledge that toby was a big Mother fan, but its cool to see him actually talk about it. Omocat, developer of Omori has stated that that Omori was heavily inspired by mother 3, so that would be another mother-like developer i would love to hear interviewed.
I wish he mentioned about his old things like Story of a Soldier or Arn's Winter Quest. I'd love to see those be re-mentioned someday, even though he made them at like 14
i can't believe Undertale Yellow got so popular that some random guy named Toby Fox decided to make a fangame sequel to it called "Undertale" Toby Fox should make his own original ip, that would be lit
This is so exciting, love hearing about how mother influenced developers. I wonder if their are any other “celebrities” that like the mother series and would do an interview like this. This could be an awesome series

Hearing from the Grandfather of Mother saying Toby should make an Undertale 2 is heartening. Hope Toby does make it one day, when he is ready.

@@flymanwind9446 technically but deltarune isnt really based on undertale, its more or less a spinoff rather than a direct sequel
I feel like that UT ended on a note that you can't really continue on aside from most neutral endings..

Seeing the connecting between Earthbound and Mother 3, Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, Moon Remix RPG, Bravely Default, YIIK, and Homestuck... old JRPGS and stories about time travel and nostalgia and the end of the world...
I pity the folk who find reasons to be so disillusioned with the idea of sentimentality and good feelings of the past, the things that inspire empathy and goodwill between different people.
You can learn a lot of new things by looking at older stories like the Tales games and Kingdom Hearts.
