Though this Pokemon was not mentioned, Ampharos helped me in key situations early on. Catching Mareep early in Gen II and leveling it up was so worth it. Think it deserves some recognition. Agreed with your points regarding Gyarados. What a beast.
Agreed! I never actually used Ampharos in the early game (regretfully) and now I'm using one in Violet and it's been my most reliable partner. Power Gem, Dragon Beam, Dazzling Gleam, and Discharge with the Static Ability to paralyze on contact. It covers a lot of ground, and can withstand a lot of attacks. It's becoming one of my all time faves!
@@SERMareep2007 True but Amphros does deserve more special coverage moves like Freeze Dry, Giga Drain, Dazzling Gleam/Moonblast, Ice Beam, Flamethrower, Earth Power & Water Pulse. That’s just my opinion though.
There are 2 Pokémon that I think are absolutely underrated. Firstly is golem. Golem is an absolute beast in the johto region. Geodude trivializes the first half of the game and continues to make notable actions against jasmine and Clair in the second half. Let’s also not forget how this thing steamrolls lance. In other games geodude is also great. In DPPT, geodude has a great matchup against the first few galactic matchups which are some of the more difficult battles in that game. Golem/Graveler can then help against Cyrus and Volkner in the late game. And Golem has a pretty high attack stat and elemental punches so it’s not completely restricted to defensive play. In hoenn geodude is like numel but better in every single aspect. Stab EQ and Rock blast is always nice and being able to shut down Wattson, Flannery, and Norman makes for a great mid game Pokémon. In kanto geodude kinda does get outclassed by dugtrio and the nidos but can still be a solid team member. Overall a great Pokémon. Second Pokémon I want to mention is this 🐀. Hear me out bro. Ratata evolves really early at level 20 and in frlg it gets access to stab hyper fang at level 13 which is insane. It’s fast and hits decently hard for how early it is available so having a stab 80bp move that can flinch is wonderful. I haven’t even mentioned the fact that this thing gets guts which is a criminally underrated ability. Pre poison this rat and it will tear through the mid game. In frlg it even gets access to dig and physical shadow ball for some fantastic coverage moves. It falls off in the late game slightly but not too hard. In johto raticate is even better. In hgss It now gets crunch by level up meaning you don’t need to use a shadow ball tm on it (you probably shouldn’t do that post Gen 4 anyway lol). And crunch just so happens to be in time for the ghost gym. It’s also got some other good coverage moves in Gen 4 such as u-turn and pluck. Pluck is especially nice for the pesky fighting types. Another very interesting thing raticate got is swords dance via move relearned and tm. It’s probably better to just have guts but if you want to go the swords dance route you can. In BW2, Raticate doesn’t really get any major buffs other than I guess wild charge by tm. But it’s still available early and can do massive damage with guts facade.
I agree with raticate but isn’t golem trade evo which makes it pretty hard to get (also you need switch online to trade in bdsp. not in d/p/pt or hg/ss though)
Talonflame helped me a lot in Pokémon violet. It knew acrobatics and tore through many of the guns. Though volcrona is also uptainable in Violet early on as well if you have both you already. When paired with Meowscrada, the fully evolved grass starter you already have a ton of coverage from the early game.

Since this is about in-game play and not competitive, I probably would have put Raichu on the list or at least an honorable mention. Being available right away in most games and even being early enough to be useful in many DPP boss fights, plus Level 26 Thunderbolt. A pity this was changed to Level 42 in Gen 7 however. I also think Stoutland is one of the better early route Pokémon as well.
I think an honorable mention should be given to pawmot. Not because he is a contender for top 10, but because he is enormously underrated while his typing, availability in tutorial area and ability to reach second evo at lv19 make him a really great asset. Actually, a position should be given to "the tutorial area in paldea"😅 : never seen so many good mons all together that early.
Bagon in Gen 7. Stoutland in Gen 5. Magnemite since steel type. Alolan Persian is surprisingly viable for Echoed Voice and other special attacks. I bet Island Scans also can provide decent options.

This was a pretty good list. Although if you’re looking for another topic, might I suggest looking at single-type Pokémon? Either as a top 10 or picking the best ones for each type?
I enjoyed the list Mystic. I will say if you have all three Gen I and II games, along with the N64, you could probably have all six starters by the time you are going for Whitney's gym, not to mention other possible trade evolutions: Abra and Gastly, or or Mankey to handle the nightmare known as Whitney's Miltank. Well... actually, catch a drowze/abra (depending on version) in the grass outside the care, do the in-game trade for lady machop in the market, say bye bye to miltank.
I continue to be a Talonflame supporter. Getting a Fletchling early (especially in Scarlet/Violet where you can get it in area one) sets up your game for a LONG time. Acrobatics plus high speed will destroy most pokemon, especially the bug and grass types which are so common early game. When steel or Ice becomes more common, fire attacks like Flame charge or eventually Flare Blitz will keep it relevant. Talonflame won't win you a competition, but for taking care of random trainers and clearing out wild pokemon, you can do a LOT worse then this speedy assassin for much of the game.

Gardevoir is just better than alakazam. Not only because of trading issues, but its survivability in battles. Id sacrifice speed for defense anyday. Plus im one of those with issues with trading
Currently running a Clefairy (not Clefable yet) with Mega Punch on Leaf Green. Even as a Clefairy, its one or two hit KOing Pokemon above its own level. Sure it falls off late game, but Clefairy is an amazing early game mon.
Wooper/ Quagsire . water ground coverage good bulk . Recovery and can toxic stall. Also in later generations unaware ability allows it to ignore any opponents seting up moves like dragon dance or swords dance
Gardevoir has issues in Kalos with its movepool. You'll have to make do without any Fairy-type attacks whatsoever until after you beat the 6th gym, which gives you the TM for Dazzling Gleam. One town later and you can upgrade that to Moonblast via Move Reminder, but it sucks that it doesn't get anything earlier. Luckily, ORAS fixed this and it actually learns early and mid-game Fairy-type moves by level up.
Everything said about Hawlucha can be said about Flamigo, except Flamigo is arguably better. You can get it very early at around level 7, having access to it before you even get to the first pokemon center. Flamigo easily solos the first two gyms (bug & grass), beats the first team star base (dark), and at level 18 learns low kick which absolutely destroys the first titan, klawf. It also comes in handy against the team star fighting base and against Larry (gym). With the scrappy ability it can hit ghost types with fighting STAB and also makes flamigo immune to intimidate. It ended up always being my highest level mon throughout my playthrough, it's almost way too good
The thing that made alakazam so OP is that it's a trade evolution alakazam level 16, also is it just me or are some of these mid game? Since they're all fully evolved I expected more baby or no evolutions
You know what Pokemon would be a formidable opponent to the #1 Gyarados? Ampharos! Lighting type, high defenses, very high Sp Atk, and access to Power Gem, and lots of lighting moves. And you can get it pretty early on.
I've honestly had to retire from Gardy and Gyarados from playthroughs, using them too much. I've said the same thing about Gengar and Azu, but somehow they ended up on my Scarlet playthrough team. Especially when they just hand you a Gengar.
I put Annihilape on Top 1. It placed an otherwise mediocre Mankey evolutionary line to a top tier. Staraptor is great, but I favor Corviknight over it. It's a beast in Gen 9 with the combo of Iron Defense, Body Press, and Fighting Tera.
So, idea. Plenty of poke tubers mention that some types are good offensive or defensive. I'd appreciate a ranking on all 18 types on what they're good for and what they're bad at. Also what the best dual types for each type are and worst. Would be nice.
You can catch a Riolu in Black 2 and White 2 at Floccesy Ranch between level 5 and 7. You can get a Lucario within the first hour of the game. That's broken.
Since Annihilape is on this list I'm surprised that some Pokémon you can pick up before even reaching Mesagoza, like Gastly, Flamigo and Houndour, didn't at least get an honorable mention. Also shootout to Salamence that you can get via SOS battle ON THE FIRST ISLAND in S/M US/UM, that's a 1% chance for Bagon to call Mence and Bagon itself only has a 1% chance of appearing on Route 3, but the possibility of catching Mence this early still exists (although its catch rate is only 45 and you probably only have Poké Balls at this point).
I did this in my US playthrough. It honestly didn’t take as long as I thought it would, maybe an hour- hour and a half. I came back when I had great balls. It almost felt like cheating lol. I had Mence, TTar, and Metagross on that team.
I’d put my petition in for Flamigo. It has comparable stats to Hawlucha and the same typing and you can find it before the story of the game even starts. Plus it’s typing can let it steam roll the first 4 bosses of the region.
Flamigo has actually a better stat spread than hawlucha from an in-game perspective, and as good if not better abilities too. It's just that Flamigo really miss that brick break hawlucha has levelling up. I'd say Hawlucha has a better movepool in general.
honestly, i grab one as soon as the game lets me, so powerful, great level up moves and the TM's/TR's only add to the power, Thunderbolt being a prime example. Even Syncronise has came in clutch a few times spreading statuses to my opponents lol (and its nice snagging modest natures)
Am I the only one who found it criminal that the Zubat line isnt mentioned here? Closest thing to Gyarados in terms of availability and it carries hard
Don't agree with the first two. I think Swellow, if any early bird, is good for early game. Staraptor evolves at lvl. 34, at which point you're in the mid-game for most games. Swellow evolves at lvl 22 which is super early, plus it potentially has guts. This means you'll actually have Swellow to use in the early game, you don't even need to grind a lot to get it, if you want it super-early. I also don't think Clefable is good early game, it's decent sure, but its wide move pool won't be relevant before you reach the mid-game in most of the Pokemon games. Flamethrower, thunderbolt etc aren't moves you access until the mid-point or past it most of the time and before that Clefable has middling battle potential.
In places you can get Gardevoir early, it’s actually a good Pokémon to use. Since that fairy typing can help it out in certain in game Pokémon battles. And I can vouch for it to.
I'll never shut up about this, because people DO need to hear it: in Gen 1, 500 Pokedollars for a Magikarp is an Arceus-send. Sure, you will have to spend a lot of time giving it EXP, but if you can get it to 20 BEFORE facing Misty, you have THE best option to challenge her Starmie, who is too strong for even Ivysaur unless you overgrind. Gyarados' own 100 Special neutralizes Bubblebeam AND Bite is more than enough to shred Starmie. After that, give him Bubblebeam, and it'll shred thru most of the game. You'd be spending the same mount of time grinding Bulbasaur/Ivysaur to be able to check Starmie's 100 Special anyway, so might as well use that time to get Gyarados sooner. Hell, he's a better Dragonite in normal gameplay. Already a pain in the ass to get Dratini, then grinding in Gen 1 is the worst, so going to 55 is a pain. And while Dragonite is amazing, it's ultimately not worth the effort for the story. By contrast, with only the cost of SLIGHTLY worse stats and a more common double weakness, Gyarados has two powerful STAB moves, Thunderbolt and Blizzard, Hyper Beam, and the Attack and Special to fuel them. For that reason, I never choose Squirtle anymore in my Gen 1 games. I can already get a FAR better Water type long before I even get Blastoise.
I have thought about something. Why is Altaria a flying AND dragon when Gyarados is only a Water/Flying type??? Does this BIIIG dragon looking fish not deserve a dragon typing instead of flying while Altaria a decent looking bird can? I mean flying and fairy typing fits Altaria much better in my opinion.
My Anihilape is my baby. I beat the entire game with it. And i call it Survivor. All the pokemon in my Forever Team are named after jojo stands. Anihilape is Survivor. Blastoise is Diver Down Torterra is Oasis Chandelure is my Purple Haze. Rhyperior is called instead of 20th Century Boy itll be shorted to 20BC. And Registeel would be Metallica. And as fate would have it. Every single one of them knows the move CURSE. As a result. And as a last resort. Any one of them can be terrastylized into a Ghost Type, and the curse can be placed on the opposition at any given time. And without it. They get a power boost. So i call them, The Cursed Ones.
you know i've been thinking of a strongest list that I wonder if you've done it or not mystic, top 10 strongest pokemon who can't evolve, of course no legendaries obviously.

Not to mention Gardaviors access to shock wave in gen 3 a move that never misses lol
The thing that made alakazam so OP is that it's a trade evolution alakazam level 16, also is it just me or are some of these mid game? Since they're all fully evolved I expected more baby or no evolutions
That's why I like legend arceus so much: pkm home -> link cable item and your kadabra-> alakazam is ready to go whenever and wherever you are.
Abra can be obtained early in DPP, same with Starly and Magikarp
@@TKnHappyNess understatement in red and blue you get it before misty
@@ScrewArceus Those three have it where you don't need any badges, plus there's also an in-game trade in Oreburgh
Keep up the awesome work and videos
Ninjask. Swordsdance, X Scissor, Protect, Baton Pass. Speed boost included. Caught early and is the easiest and one of the most effective set up mons
Normal flying is a good type combo. Taking neutral fighting damage is a fair trade for normal stab and ghost immunity.
Nidoking is my all time favourite pokemon. Was hoping he'd make the list
This guy really really really likes clefable
I do! LOL
You can catch a Riolu in Black 2 and White 2 at Floccesy Ranch between level 5 and 7. You can get a Lucario within the first hour of the game. That's broken.
Idk your the only one that's said this. This should be number 1
I knew my man magikarp would not let me down!
SPLASH ALL DAY BABY
Hmm I see a common thread with the strongest Pokémon
Weak base forms
Ridiculous final forms….
Sometimes patience is the ultimate reward
Honorable mention should go to Shedinja. That and a good bulky offensive like Swampert can duo the whole game
Bruh..... Staraptor, Alakazam, Hawlucha, Clefable! Marshadow is one of my favorites!
Don't apologize for gardevoir! It's a good pokemon. These people be trolls!
Yup checks out it’s not a mysticumbreon video without him simping for Gardevoir 😂
I’d put my petition in for Flamigo. It has comparable stats to Hawlucha and the same typing and you can find it before the story of the game even starts. Plus it’s typing can let it steam roll the first 4 bosses of the region.
Even though it has nice stats. That pokemon just looks bad that I would literally ignore it.
Flamigo has actually a better stat spread than hawlucha from an in-game perspective, and as good if not better abilities too. It's just that Flamigo really miss that brick break hawlucha has levelling up. I'd say Hawlucha has a better movepool in general.
Margikarp literally evolves before most Pokemon…not getting it to level 20 is just pure laziness 😂
Can u elaborate on earlygame? Pre 1st gym, pre 3rd? First half?
*Sees the number two entry.
That's my girl!!!
Anyone who disrespects our girl shall be immediately met with divine punishment
honestly, i grab one as soon as the game lets me, so powerful, great level up moves and the TM's/TR's only add to the power, Thunderbolt being a prime example.
Even Syncronise has came in clutch a few times spreading statuses to my opponents lol (and its nice snagging modest natures)
Awesome!!!❤❤💯💯
Im sorry for bothering you about this Mystic,
But are we going back to the best in game teams for every type
Idk, Azumarill never worked for me. Everytime I tried to use one, It sucked.
in first Gen....my early game ace is Butterfree due to physic move that can bulldoze the first few gyms
Imagine how unfathomably busted annihilape would be if power up punch was still a move
Don't forget Gyarados also learns Dragon Dance in some gens.
Another classic.
One my personal favorite erily game mon has been squawkabily
Hustle
Tara flying
Aerial ace
And sharp beck
Am I the only one who found it criminal that the Zubat line isnt mentioned here? Closest thing to Gyarados in terms of availability and it carries hard
I am pretty sure Hawlucha is used in Speedrunning USUM
I can't believe that Toucannon has the highest BST of all of the regional birds at 499, and it still kind of sucks competitively.
Forgot about the level 9 salamence in sun and moon
Isn't Talonflame a great Pokemon too? Or Corvknight?
Honestly, Gardevoir never left my rooster ever since gen 6
I couldn’t wait to get Annilape.
If Gyarados could actually learn some Flying type moves, I’d agree
In places you can get Gardevoir early, it’s actually a good Pokémon to use. Since that fairy typing can help it out in certain in game Pokémon battles. And I can vouch for it to.
Mareep? Gastly? They did extreme well in my Heart Gold walkthroughs
I feel that boltund is an early game that I think is a great pick.
Downside is that it doesn't get the one crucial fang it needs: Ice
Completely agree except Arcanine should be on this list
Hypno is a Pokémon named after the God of Sleep but it doesn’t learn Dream Eater.
I'm glad I guessed #1 and #2 correctly lol
The number 04 slot!
My Anihilape is my baby. I beat the entire game with it. And i call it Survivor. All the pokemon in my Forever Team are named after jojo stands.
Anihilape is Survivor.
Blastoise is Diver Down
Torterra is Oasis
Chandelure is my Purple Haze.
No Scolipede? :(
Salamence in USUM says hello iykyk
Seviper. My favorite trade evo.
you know i've been thinking of a strongest list that I wonder if you've done it or not mystic, top 10 strongest pokemon who can't evolve, of course no legendaries obviously.
Top 10 video idea: Top 10 best starters.
What do you think, Mystic?
I think he listed each stater by type before, but now that the pokedex has been updated, it would be nice to see how starters are doing these days
Weedle should totally be on this list. It has Poison sting! Enough said.
Every starter Pokemon except Chikorita.
Ok, that's it! You should start making content that NOT including Gardevoir anymore. Lol
