Note: this lesson assumes the modern interpretation of the six-stroke roll with all notes played with equal note value (an inversion of the paradiddle-diddle rudiment), rather than the traditional version in which the single strokes have twice the note value of the double strokes. This is how I learned the six-stroke roll initially and it makes sense to me calling it that, even though it's not the 'correct six-stroke roll'. If I didn't include some kind of disclaimer my old teacher will kill me.
Excellent lesson Sacha! Very useful pattern to use on the kit. I really like the idea of combining the kick drum in the six stroke roll. Thanks for sharing this!
Thanks. Been playing around with the six stroke variations you've demonstrated. Can use this in a swing context (8th note triplets) or a rock context (16th note triplets). But don't know what to do with that 4 stroke thing. You have not explained what's happening rhythmically when using both the 4 stroke and the 6 stroke in the same context, and the stokes are moving at the same speed. ???
Hi. I thought that the most use of this concept would be to use it as 16th note triplets? 70bpm 4/4 and use as a fill is enough speed to make it sounds fine. In this case I would expect as instead of 4 note RllK, something like this 6notes: RllKll mixed as suits with RllRll.

They’re all the same value - 6+6+4= 16 16th notes or 32nd notes just as an example of how it can work in 4/4
