  • Is this the castle of the Holy Grail? Peel Castle on the Isle of Man has been a monastic retreat, a fortress and home to a Viking king. Neolithic, Bronze Age, and Celtic remains have been excavated in recent years and a visit to Tynwald Hill and the House of Keys reveals evidence of the island's Viking heritage in the parliamentary system and language. We explore the islander's love of folklore and their healthy appetite for locally smoked kippers. For more information visit www.ontopoftheworld.net and check out episode #26 in the Journeys through the British Isles category.

    I have just recently come to find out I am 20% Irish/Scottish being primarily located in The Isle of Man and Channel Islands. This would be my Paternal Grandmothers side. On my Mothers side we always knew of Norwegian as her grandma came here in the early 19 teens, and all of her family before her was full Norwegian to the absolute best of our knowledge. Now when my ancestry map popped up it stated I had 12% Norwegian including Icelandic and a separate 5% Swedish. Now on my Norwegian estimate it could range from 12-23%, theory....the Vikings traveled out first, right? So like that gentleman said, they intermarried with the Irish, thus leading to a possibly weaker percentage of Norwegian? I love finding out that those from The Isle of Man do not let culture and history and old ways fade. It speaks a bit to how my grandmother is so proud of her Irish heritage. Shell tell you till the sun goes down for good that she is Irish German and nothing else! Now I know where my emerald green eyes really come from! Anyone else out there with similar Irish heritage, if so do any or all of your family members of this heritage have an 'elf's' ear? Odd question I know, but all of my Grandmothers family including all of us after her have one elf ear on the left side. It's a slight fold or slit almost and it gives that one ear a point. Its the one thing we all look for when a baby is born😊 Thank you for this video, even if I am seeing it years later!!

    Dame Sibyl Leek in her book "A Ring of Magic Islands" a tale about Rushen Castle; that in the age of the wars between the elves and giants and men, Merlin lay the giants under a spell of sleep deep beneath Rushen castle. That there are catacombs and descending passages and those who venture too far never return. If not a magic spell could be noxious gases that far deep.
    I don't know the details of the legend, it's just intriguing; the book was done with her son (Stephen? David?) as the photographer, the title refers to all the lesser British Isles surrounding Britain and Ireland and the book explores their magical and archaeological/legendary history.

    The original islanders were Amun god worshipers from Egypt, the Hebrews of the Exodus 1,500 years ago. The island was part of the Hebrides kingdom, where some of the Hebrews settled, explaining why Gaelic is similar to Hebrew.
    The name Amun (also called Amen and Amana) is where the island gets its name from. The original flag/insignia had 3 stars on it instead of 3 spurs, the 3 stars of Orion's Belt, the "Magi".
    The god Amun was a trinity of 3 gods, the original Amun, plus the god Min and Ra (Sun god).

In fact DNA has shown that every Kelly (I'm one of them) who were born on the island or were from the Isle of Man are related to every other Kelly and are descended from just one man who was called Ceallach. I used to think the Kellys came from Ireland but genetically Manx Kellys are not related to Irish Kelly but are indigenous to just the Isle of Man. Sadly I was born in Liverpool. My great grandfather left Mann in the 19th century. But I consider myself Scouse Manx.

    • @syntaxerror8955
      @syntaxerror8955 7 лет назад

      "Drivel"? Why drivel. "Viking" is just another term for Scandinavians in the centuries around 1,000 AD. Scandinavians invaded and ruled many parts of the British islands. England itself was under Danish rule 1018-1035. In fact, the Norman invasion at 1,066 A.D. was lead by the ancestors of those Scandinavians having settled in northern France in the 900s. That's why it's called Normandie, and why they were called "Normans". It means "Norwegian" in Scandinavian languages to this day. It just means "north man"/"north men", in other words man/men from the north.

    • @jackjft9654
      @jackjft9654 5 лет назад

      Syntax Error you’re right what you’re saying about the Normans bro, but not all of England or even the rest of The British isles where conquered, Western Mercia The Kingdom of Cornwall and Wessex which had annexed Sussex, Essex and Kent into the kingdom founded England well before William of house Normandy ever did, they managed to take the Danelaw kingdom back and had East anglia the rest of Mercia and NorthUmbria under its banners again, they basically all formed together and became one kingdom. It was also the English who finally won the Viking wars with Harold Godwinson as King, even though months after that he died in the battle of Hastings and lost England too the Normans, did you also know that William was related to the King before Godwinson and had an legitimate claim to the throne in the first place.

    My ancestry is of a Holy and Ancient lineage but hidden for centuries. More because no one cares, is disinterested, or, sadly, wouldn't believe. I descend from Lancelot du Lac (corrupt french/roman from the "Angus"}. I go back from the Kings of Dalriada to Tara - to a land I will refer to as 'the wasteland'. A Noble Decurio was my forefather who was connected to Glastonbury (that's all I'll say). I say with authority of ancestry that St Patrick's Isle is the location of what was once the "many turreted" CASTLE OF THE HOLY GRAIL (a Kiddush cup) from which on a good day one could see Ireland. Indeed the conical promontory was the "Peel" of King Arthur who would watch my forefather joust below on the beach. Arthur was King of Glamorgan and my father of the 'Camelot' = 'King in residence' of Stirling. Edinburgh, Carlisle, etc, were also a 'Camelot' as were other places as they are today with the Royal Residences (i.e. different locales). The Castle was also made of the same reddish stone as the ruins of the one today, but much more glorious. It used copper profusely and its columns can be found in St Petersburg, Russia today. I also confirm the 'Shroud of Turin' (Turino, Italy) to be genuine (see Bernie Schwartz; Head of Research on the Holy Shroud). The Stone of Scone in Edinburgh is also authentic. Glastonbury WAS important for Tin trade, but later was confused with this sacred Isle of Man. This is the true story. It is.
    Addition: the famous 3 wheel leg comes from Sicily from where the family briefly lived in ancient times. The reason was maritime as my ancestor traded in Tin and Copper.

      Not so. Please read all the books of Norma Lorre Goodrich who cites hard evidences for King Arthur (King of Glamorgan, Wales as well as a Roman General) and my Dalriadic ancestor King Angus of Stirling. Merlin was St Dubricious. There is incontestable evidence of Arthur cited and researched by an Alan Wilson of Wales. Glastonbury is vital as it was the locale of a first century synagogue (as all primitive Christians there were Judaic) and a cite of burial after the Viking raids on Man. Man is the Isle of Avalon (Avallach) and apple orchards were grown there as well to show it as a place of learning.
      I don't really care if you doubt authentic histories or use such descriptive language and articulate expression. I have zero desire to convince the closed mind.

      I also wish to correct that it was not the 'grassy field' but the moon shaped beach where my ancient forefather trained in horsemanship by Vivian, Lady of the Lake who was a Nun.

      Its also very interesting to note the 'Gibb' family originates w Picts that held royal seats in Inverness and Dalriada territories (yes, the name also has a Norman connect to Gilbert mostly used due to similarity to the original gaelic name- much like 'anglicizing' a name). This would make the famous and renown BeeGees (Brothers Gibb) likely from the Holy Grail lineage. Robin Gibb's funeral was all the more anciently accurate as 4 black feathers were used for ancient Prince's of the royal line.... music (and harp) always being very prominent as well as the understanding of herbs and gardens- the family likely did not know this....

      It's one the many symbols similar to the "Swastika".
      The German Nazis took an ancient Asia symbol, change its rotational aspect and made it their own.
      I have seen many natives of Thailand and Cambodia tattooed with this ancient good-luck motif and they know nothing of Nazis.

    I thought it was the Romans who named Picts as Picti because they were painted 2,000 years ago 🤭
