It's hard winning in the SEC on the road. A team like Auburn, Arkansas, or South Carolina can send you home sad on 4 win seasons

Arkansas will be a tough road game. Granted. But 2021 Texas doesn't compare to 2024 Texas. And Arkansas only wishes its 2021 team was playing in 2024.
9-3 will not get you in the playoffs. Think about it. If 9-3 get you in the field previous season would have been 5 SEC teams, 4 BIG teams. Defeats the entire reasoning for opening up the field to 12. And if the alignment would have been as it will be in the 2024 season then you have 6 SEC and 6 BIG. 9-3 not going to happen regardless of schedule. What would be the point.

Could be. Just don't see what 3 teams you can lose to and still be a viable playoff team. And goodness, is that last half of Florida's schedule a monster. Who came up with that?
I am a lifelong FSU fan and I really have never had strong feelings for or against Texas. I remember when my phone pinged with the ESPN notification "Oklahoma and Texas are going to the SEC" I thought Oklahoma should be alright (not UGA or Bama status but LSU) but texas will be swallowed. They will be another Arkansas South Carolina or Kentucky. Maybe a good year they go 8-4, but could easily be 4-8. That was before Sark took over. I am honestly so impressed with him. I love how even though he hit rock bottom he picked himself up and made major changes to his life and now he has Texas in a spot they can compete with anyone.

You know, it's taken me awhile to digest the Coach Nick Saban ERA is over. Although the word OVER is still not the word that describes his legacy. I can understand it now because Alabama takes National Championships for granted. So , he is actually going out on a high note. I want to say that I am grateful for Coach Saban and the Alabama football Program for the joy they have given me. I have lived my whole life in West Virginia. I followed that program since elementary school. We never had the depth of an Alabama, or Notre Dame or Ohio State though every 4 years or so of rebuilding would lead to some successful teams. I became more of a Marshall fan after seeing the heart they have had. From AA FCS to MAC . The spirit of Byron Leftwich , Chad Pennington. Jim Donnan , Bob Pruett, Doc Holliday. But I always loved the SEC. Because of the speed . Going back to the days of Florida beating Ohio State. My motto was " Speed Kills,". Then , Tennessee. Peyton Manning, T Martin. Then, the Gold Standard, ALABAMA. Coach Saban and the level of Integrity he brought to College Sports. I'm 63 years old and he still makes me strive to be the best I can be. My dad was at that level. Coach Saban put being the best human being you can be ahead of winning football games. But he did that too. The United States of America needs him to be President. Thank you. Greg McElroy for carrying on the Tradition. You are an example, the epitome of that program of integrity.

Should beat Oklahoma (Nico>Arnold), Bama will be down AND it’s in Knoxville… no LSU, Mizzou, Ole Miss or Texas on the schedule… 8-4 means a bunch of injuries or major shake ups for 2025.

What difference does it make? Because of the transfer portal and just sitting out often you don't get the same team in the Bowl games as you had getting there. Something has to change.

As an Oklahoma fan, I’m both grateful and disappointed that Saban retired. It just feels like we’re coming in and not really earning that SECCG. Not that we’ll be in the title game this coming season but still… And at the same time at least now everyone else has a better shot at winning. Definitely conflicted.

the SEC fan base as a whole is more attentive, and a much bigger audience than most other conferences. wouldn’t necessarily call it bias, but giving the audience what they want.

However ESPN has power in determining teams into the playoffs. Which means the SEC will get 3 loss teams into the playoffs while other teams with 2 losses won't.

And i’m saying this as a bama fan who also believes most other conferences are significantly weaker than the SEC. this is simply reality for now
@Kodxene I wouldn't say other conferences are weaker than the SEC but they definitely have more money.
It is however unfair when a broadcasting channel has power over programs that are outside of their favorites and can influence the committee to screw over those programs.

1st Year of 12 Team Playoff only see 3 - SEC Teams. 3 - Big Ten - 3 - Other Conference Champions (Big 12, ACC, Best G5), Notre Dame (9-3) They will get in. So only leaves 2 spots ACC might get 2nd Team. So really only 1 Spot that could be applied to SEC or Big Ten or Big 12.

As a Vols fan I only see us winning 8 to 9 games this year. Simply because we basically have a brand new team this year. Who knows we may do better we could do worse. Go Vols!!

LSUs three toughest games are all in tiger stadium. Last time bama and joey freshwater came to BR they both left with a big old L. ou is thanksgiving weekend. By that time the sooner team may have mailed it in. Their schedule is brutal. Could very well have 4-5 losses by then. The other nine opponents, well as of now LSU is in a better place than all nine.

You’re right, the last time Bama came to Red Stick it was a “big ole L” as you put it. A whopping single point loss in overtime. I’m not entirely sure I’d count that as a big ole L, but if I can keep from laughing and go along with that for a minute, what happens when we look at all the other games in BR going back for a bit longer ? Even just 6 games gives a different perspective. Going back to 2012 the results were 55-17 Bama, 29-0 Bama, 10-0 Bama, 20-13 Bama, and 21-17 Bama.
We’re 29-9-2 against y’all in Baton Rouge so crowing about playing the Tide in BR might not exactly be something you want to thump your chest about, but hey it's a free country so if it helps you sleep at night…

I could see georgia possibly being beaten by texas. They will likely beat Bama though.I could see Bama having a 8 win season. Buddy, I'm an OU fan as well but let's be realistic. I'd love to head into the SEC and wipe the floor with everyone but it's going to be tough. Our schedule is one of the toughest in the nation so let's temper expectations. I'd be happy with 8-4 next year.

I disagree, Greg! I can see 5-6 in for the SEC. I think the B1G only gets 2 in: Oregon and Ohio state. I think Georgia, Tennessee, LSU, ole miss, and Texas are in. And maybe even Mizzou. So if those 6 are in, and 2 B1G that’s 8. Utah and either Kstate or OkSt are in thats 10 and then either Clem or fsu and then a g5.

I think the two sure fire bets are Oregon and Ohio. Again these are the way way way to early picks. Michigan, I can see going 8-4. Reason being, punishments are coming and I think they’re losing a lot to the draft. So being conservative here, I’m gonna leave them off. I hope they don’t go 8-4 but I’m setting my expectations low on purpose here.

That is a great way to put it. I didn't think of it like that. But you are right.
The top SEC teams might be able to get in the playoffs with two losses on the year if those losses are to top 10 teams.
So everyone is going to try to have one loss or none, and that makes your description of the weekly process correct. Teams are going to be looking at surviving one week to the next.

Texas was every Big 12 team's super bowl last year. Fact of the matter is Texas played a tougher in-conference vs the Big 12 in '23 than it will vs SEC in '24 -- except for Georgia. While A&M and Arkansas hate Texas with the heat of a thousand suns, they're both sub-500 teams that won't be any better in '24. Texas gets a decent Kentucky team and mediocre to poor teams in Florida, Mississippi State and Vandy at DKR. SEC teams will be physically bigger, but not physically better (outside of Georgia) than what Texas faced in '23. SEC will be truly tough for Texas when it has to face LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee and, of course, Bama.
Or maybe UT isnt the superpower they always claim they are....... ya know like how they hadnt won the B12 in 14 years prior to last season.
