Poke + y is defo the right way. It just is
Q1: Pokey
Q2: I'm inclined to tomahawk, somehow I got better control of the ball this way
thanks for getting involved!
Tomahawk right now, but I am learning to switch to Pokey when I get a stable touch. Because it's a one arm action, faster to defend an overhead shot.
Man, love your videos: great, concise, to the point. is there a reason to do the tomahawk the way you do it, and not with your palms crossed and facing the ball? In the indoor volley we were taught the latter.
It really depends on the situation. I resort primarily to the tomahawk as it is generally a more controlled tool. I find myself using the pokey when I’m peeling off a block and the attacker hits a high line that i may generally be too off balance to put a tomahawk up.
I have never heard of a Pokey in my life. I've always assumed tomahawk was the safest and more accurate of the two. Just like when hitting anything with one arm or hand, I always felt two was better. This was a cool video to see what a Pokey was though! I'm going to try that out!
I definitely use A more on defense. I mostly only pokey on too tight sets/passes or as an offensive move such as a short pokey over the block instead of a real high line shot
Any pokey/pokie tips for folks whose fingers don't line up well? My dominant hands wants to push the ball to the left.
Pokey all the way!!!
A and didn’t think much about it until one of your other videos said that if you can get the other team to tomahawk on defense, you’ve already won. Now, I think of it as absolute last result.
We use pokey a lot in portugal, at least i try to teach that way! If possible touching with a good 5 knuckles base and putting the ball high.
Bravo
thanks!
Nice! I wanna Do Tomahawk and Pokey in my Solo Practice. Thx! Brandon.
Awesome, let us know how it goes!
B - pokey in the game.
I tomahawk defensively, and pokey offensively when the ball is in a tricky spot.
A. Tomahawk on def, poke on bad set attacks :D
B
Never confident with tomahawk. Going to practice your version thanks
Good luck!
A. You have better control and you have the option to tomahawk over to a open spot for a point. But Pokey looks way cooler.
Pokey 🖤
I mostly tomahawk, but that's only because I have an irrational fear of injuring my fingers if I do pokey
Spelled... POKEYYYYYY. When playing defense, I tend to tomahawk because I’ve noticed I can get more force behind the ball to pop it up higher and give my partner time to get there and make a decent set. Gives me time to rebalance as well. Or it’s also a great way (if you see the available court space) to go over on one on defense and score or at least catch the opponents out of system.
Pokey and A: tomahawk
Pokey!
Nice smog in the horizon
pockie
Pokie, or B is my preference.
B. Pokey!
I mostly Toma , I pokie only with right hand bcz my left hand is hurted
Pokey and B (I never use tomahawk).
I like calling it the claw
Can you go over the proper hand and arm technique for the pokey in a video?
Ive been doing the ill advised open flat hand tomahawk but trying to break that habit, do the proper tomahawk and get the pokey into my toolkit also. Need some tips on the mechanics of how to do it right thanks!
Pokey seems to follow grammatically correct rules...yeah I'm a nerd, haha
Tomahawk for sure, I use Pokey only when super tight to either set my partner or pop over line if I'm late to the hit.
I sometimes use a one arm open hand and make a shot like when you do a deep high line. It feels more controlled than a pokey.
But is it allowed to use an open hand instead of a pokey?
Yes, it is as long as it doesn't roll off your fingers. Flat or topspin, but no backspin.
@@dougstair9679 Got it! Thanks! 😎👍
Yeah I don't like pokies. I just use an open hand and pop it off my palm with my fingertips together.
The question is why doesn't everyone do that? Just to avoid a potential conflict?
Pokie is def the way
Both of them
A for tomahawk and pokey
Is your thumb supposed to touch the ball on the poke?
Neither. I would do a over open hand. This is the first time hearing a poky. Love you guys videos, they help me a ton.
Awesome, thanks for the feedback! The pokey is a great option to use if you're worried your open hand dig might not come out cleanly - try it out and let us know how it goes!
Pokey is how I would spell it
im still learning so I tend to open hand dig a good amount, not sure if its legal... lol
As long as there isnt any finger action, an open hand is usually ok. We actually have a video on that.
Tomahawk: But the flat handed way, gotta get out of that habit
Tomahawk
I tomahawk literally 100% of the time for overhead defense
Start working on your single arm/hand touches. It will make defensive movements a lot easier.
B - pokie on defense
B - pokey
Pokey is an adjective, Pokie is a noun, so I'm picking the second!
Love it hahahaha!!! Good grammar lesson!!!
how can you get information about the use of your videos from RUclips channel with translation into Russian language. to the mail given earlier info@betteratbeach.com information does not pass.
Pokey
We say "Poke" amongst my friends in Sweden... Definitively B!
mmmm poke. Now I'm hungry!
Definitely A more than B. More surface area for a decent pass in my case.
If you are passing a lot of balls using a tomahawk you may want to start a little further back in serve receive so you can use your platform for everything. At our camps and classes if you tomahawk a serve we make you do a push up! :)
If the ball is in reach Tomahawk if I need the extra inches to get to the ball Pokey
Great Answer! Playing this way will help you stay balanced!
A all the time
Time to add to your arsenal!
if you don't have someone tossing balls to you just use an even wall... it words pretty good!
Poké (just to be difficult 😈)
And I’m definitely more of a Knucks kinda guy
Lol! No Poké is a delicious type of fish, dude😂🍣 Appreciate the feedback!
B. and only right hand.. my high defense is a mess
You just need reps! I promise you will get comfortable if you give it some time!
B, course in Germany the Tomahawk is unusual
A. Tomahawk
I tomahawk more
Poqui!... In Spanish 😁 🇵🇷
A
Pokey+ always B
A more than B. I call it a po•key because the shape of the hand looks like a key when you do it 🤓
Havent heard this one before! :)
@@brandonjoyner6046 Random I know! The spelling probably influenced the visual of a vintage key 🗝🤷🏽♀️
pokey 100% I actually never learned the tomahawk
A & B
B
What is the pokey form?
Make a peace sign and then bend your fingers down like your making quotes. Let me know how that feels.
@@brandonjoyner6046 should I be using my thumb too? Splitting my fingers as far apart?
Siri spells pokey
I am 90% POKEY, very seldom tomahawk, unless I get handcuffed with a high serve. Graduating to a new level from knuckles Magoo .. to .. POKEY Magoo😎 🏐
POKEY MAGOO😎😂
Pokey....A
B .pokey
I’m pretty sure the Hokey Pokey sets the standard on spelling here
I think it should be spelled poke-ee
I also would tomahawk since I get better control
Ey
Im one of the A) dudes
B I spell it pokey
Nice, thanks for the feedback
Pokey more on d .
It's not the Hokie Pokie now is it?
B
Keep you eyes on the ball when pulling from the net (2nd pokie exercise)
Pokey
C: something completely different.
Thanks for the feedback! So you use something completely different from a tomahawk or pokey, like what? :)
@@betteratbeachvolleyball a very ugly stretched open handed defense, where the hands should be interlaced but never are. I find the upper hand defense one of the most difficult things to do.
I've watched the video on how to prevent the upper hand defense, but sometimes you need to react very fast that upper hand defense is the only possible one. 🙈
its IE i promise im multilangual its ie
Pocky

No question

C) Waiter/Waitress and I think it's spelled Pokey
poke...i think tomahawk is such an inconsistent hit. Meaning, i see more people shank balls using the tomahawk than any other hit.
poki
Wait it’s not spelled pokeigh? I need to speak with a manager or something
Neither? I catch em with 1 hand if nothing else.
I'm sorry but I just couldn't play volleyball in those wintery conditions! 😂
You call all these solo???
You are all wrong!!!
It's spelled "poké".... like in "pokémon"
