      @@antoniovital4298 from wiki: The landscape and moving props such as vehicles are modeled as fully polygonal and rotatable 3D objects. Small buildings and props are drawn as flat images, which are pasted onto billboards; polygons with their surface normal facing into the camera. Larger buildings are modeled using a hybrid approach; a simple polygonal model defines the shape of the building, then textures are added to create detail such as doors, windows and rooftop clutter.
      Although a 3D engine is used, the camera in SimCity 4 is restricted to a fixed trimetric orthographic projection for performance reasons
      SC4 is amazing and to be honest in many ways better than cities skylines, though much less accessible

      I dunno, personally 4 turned me off of the franchise. It was too radically different from prior games. It was definitely pretty. But I personally still find Sim City 3000 to be the final iteration of Sim City, before it felt like it strayed. Basically Sim City 3000 actually felt like a proper sequel to the very successful Sim City 2000. It plays very similar to it but was an upgrade in almost every way possible.
      I think the first thing that rubbed me the wrong way when I booted up Sim City 4 was the UI looked too similar to The Sims, had The Sims incorporated features, and worst, moved away from Squares... a staple in the franchise even since the very original game. Everything felt too automated as well. I hated how roads appeared automatically when placing zoning, and there was no way to turn it off, so you had to well cheat the system to to speak to get around it but sorry that's a huge nope, I want complete control over road placement, absolute!
      Over all, I just didn't like the game at all. I still find Sim City SNES, Sim City 2000 and Sim City 3000 the definitive Sim City experiences. Sim City SNES because it's that good, if you've not played it, it's the best version of the original Sim City that was ever made, it actually set many precedents that continued into Sim City 2000 and 3000.

    • @sonyvegas9838
      @sonyvegas9838 2 года назад

      @albert einstien when they're completely grid: that's what's wrong. I have tried playing with so many layout styles, from random sized blocks to perfect grids, even with long lines that I then turn into blocks, then fill on the inside. But all face the same problem once they grow to a point: they're too "locked". See with this layout type shown in the video, there's main roads and avenues then there's distinct, separate RCI blocks, that connect, but aren't next to, with the main lines. That way if you have a new need, say you want to install a new transportation system, it will become much easier to do so, or if you need to adjust your connections due to a neighbouring city, everything becomes so much flexible. Something that's very hard to do with all-grid cities: very locked layouts.
      In short, this "branched" layout offers the best flexibility, avoids inevitable traffic pollution penalties, and look aesthetically pleasing.

    Skylines is amazing but the SimCity games, even 2013, are deeper simulations. Generally in Skylines neighborhoods become stable very easily and then the only challenge is making sure traffic doesn't back up. Nothing wrong with that but I am really hoping skylines 2 has more economic simulation. Skylines is by far the best satisfying traffic simulator.

    I have pretty much almost all the City Building games. But I still prefer to play Simcity 4. Still the best of the best.

    do you know how to get all the traffic to show up like that in my city? i've been playing this game since it came out and had always experienced seeing the traffic - however since like 2015, i have to be zoomed in super close to see the traffic and it just behaves differently. idk why, it wasn't any mods or settings
