    been waiting for this one for a long while, bravo, i've got misfire on cylinder 1 and 3, injectors have been tested, coil packs are fine, new spark plugs, new vanos, made a mistake, shorted the high pressure fuel pump on the positive terminal, today i found the vaccum pump leaking and oil in the vaccum side and i haven't driven anywhere, it was lumpy on idle.

    Congratulations on a successful rebuild - it looks like the remaining problems can all be solved with a few new parts. I'm just doing an N46 bottom end swap after buying an E87 with engine noise - it was a rod bearing which then destroyed the crankshaft journal. Your videos are very helpful!

    Good morning. I have been following you for a long time. and I want to thank you for your practical videos which helped me a lot.
    I have a problem with the electric oil level before starting I check the level (maximum). and after driving a few thirty kms I cut off the engine (minimum light +1L) I leave the car. after a few hours I start check (maximum) and it repeats. I have no apparent leaks and no smoke too. thank you very much 💪💪

    Hi there, what a great video! The "low oil pressure" code is exactly what I've been frequently seeing. Would you happen to know when is the new video going to be released? I can't wait to see what you have done to rectify this issue. I have already changed the oil pressure sensor as well as the oil pressure regulator, there is no foreign particles on my oil filter, but at this stage I start to worry that it might be my oil pump? The car has only 153000 km on it so it's not that much...

    • @BimmerZen
      @BimmerZen  4 месяца назад +1

      I had to replace the oil pressure valve which solved the issue. But in your case, given that the oil pressure regulator valve is in good working order, you might have the dreaded clogged oil pickup (broken plastic chain rail guides) or damaged oil pump. I would investigate immediately.

    Well its all back in and fired up and totally gutting is theres a knocking sound. Its had a new crank, new bearings, new rings, engine balanced, new tappets… did añl the tightening to spec so really cant get my head around it. Im using mineral running in oil. Sounds bottom end but different to original knock it had with the knackered bearing. Wondering what ti do now. 😢

    • @dj0men666
      @dj0men666 5 месяцев назад

      Well i think ive sorted it. Was either a noisy tappet, tensioner or an issue with intake. I fixed an error with direct injection intake or something - controls the flap, swapped tensioner for another new one and maybe oil filled up… dunno but its running ok now!!! 😅 thank **** for that. Thought all that work and cash gone to waste. Mot next hurdle. Shojld be good if emmisions ok. 👍

    Hi,
    I have a BMW 318i 2012 N43 engine.
    I bought it with a low oil pressure warning light on the dash.
    1. I changed the oil pressure sensor but still lights on.
    2. I changed the oil pressure regulator valve still the problem there.
    3. I removed the sump and there were a lot of timing chain pieces stuck in the pickup tube and in the sump. I cleaned the pickup tube and sump. Put a new timing chain. But still low oil pressure light is on.
    I flushed the engine and changed engine oil twice in one week but the problem is still there.
    Checked oil filter housing and but everything seems fine.
    I don't know what to do next. It's just the oil pump remaining which can cause the low oil pressure.
    Note: the low oil pressure warning pops up after running the car at high speed for 10 to 15 minutes and when stop at a traffic light it just pops up. The car drives fine.
    No engine noise and when I remove the engine oil cap oil comes out with pressure.
    I am waiting for your reply. Because if not then I am going to change the oil pump which is pain in the a**s.

      @BimmerZen  2 месяца назад

      Well, good job so far, so keep zen:)
      Did you check for debris in the oil cooler? Maybe its clogged with the debris? You remo ed the oil filter housing and cleaned all of the channels and check valve inside?
      The next thing could obviously be the oil pump. Pieces can damage or stuck the variable volume mechanism. Maybe it is broken, ive seen that before:instagram.com/p/Cz9tWFrKzj_/?igsh=MXY2YnRtcHcwNDZhag==

    Hi! Whats the correct compression for this engine? I have 7bar/100 psi on every cylinder. Is it enough it to work properly or is it too low? What is the compression when the engine is new? Thanks if you can answer! 🙂

    • @BimmerZen
      @BimmerZen  4 месяца назад

      @@MeisterSchaft13 minimum is 10 bar. No spec for new engine. My estimation is 12 bar max. Try with a few drops of oil in each cylinder. Also check if the vanos adaptatios are within spec. Jumped chain may cause low compression.

    • @MeisterSchaft13
      @MeisterSchaft13 4 месяца назад

      @@BimmerZen The problem i have is the compression tester is a cheap chinese tester. So i dont trust it. How to clear the vanos adaptations, is there a free tool for it or a cheap tester that can do it? Is it a must to clear the adaptations when the cylinder head has been off? The car idles pretty ok and no adaptations has been cleared.

    Hey! I love your videos and currently rebuilding my second car's engine, could you please advise me? The piston ring gaps is in a weird situation, where
    1 ring range 0,20...0,30 with result of 0,27 not going in
    2 ring range 0,30 ... 0,45 with 0,48 going in, and 0,50 not going in
    with older ones the engine was working with 1 ring being around 0,34 and 2 ring 0,55. is 0,03 from maximum on a second ring bad?

    • @BimmerZen
      @BimmerZen  5 месяцев назад +1

      As I describe in my N43 bottom end rebuild video; the second ring is primarily an oil scraper ring and is not that critical for the compression, so I think you should be fine with slightly out of spec second ring.

    "Replace chain rail guide if engine's more than 10 years old" -- my N42 is on 22 years old and I'm stressing!! First thing I want to do is add a digital oil pressure sensor so I can be sure oil starvation never happens.

    • @BimmerZen
      @BimmerZen  5 месяцев назад +1

      I would advise you to replace the plastic chain rail guide and chain tensioner. Oil pumps on the N42/N46 are pretty solid, oil starvation only happens when the pickup gets blocked with broken pieces of guide.

    • @Peter-oz8ec
      @Peter-oz8ec 5 месяцев назад

      It’s sound advise to change the plastic guides , mine failed when taken for MOT test when engine revved higher than I dare. Roughly £50 for parts , £30 for timing chain kit. And for me. Labour free
