Do reporters really need to be doorstopping players on their way to training?
No. They don’t. It’s cringy and embarrassing and never results in any useful information.

They never get an answer out of them either, it’s like the reporters just need to show they’re making an effort
Couldn't agree more.. I get it, but still don't like it.. it's annoying and cringe, but that's about it.. worst thing is that this is only media narrative pushing this
@Lats Niebling that’s exactly what reporters want, a reaction. Then they sensationalise the matter and air it on the 6 news. That’s why they shove the boom/ camera in their faces, to get a reaction. I couldn’t handle it I’d knock the reporter out
I don't think anyone likes it. The reporters certainly don't seem to enjoy the practice. But in saying that, players need to expect it a little bit. All we ever hear from them is a social media post here or there when things are usually at their worst. The whole industry is a bit immature when it comes to media coverage. The executives of this league always want to compare and take notes from the big American leagues, but when it comes time to act like those leagues, all of sudden we're just playing in a dinky little local comp.

Because they are on ridiculously big contracts, if you can get rid of grundy you free up 1m dollars a year for 5 years and you still have Darcy cameron who has been in the top 3 best rucks this year. That 1 million a year can be spent on a Brownlow bound inside mid which collingwood actually need. If collingwood don't get rid of some of these overpaid players, they won't have enough money to replace the 30+ year olds when they retire.
@@thesecretwombat056 I think clubs need to stop paying huge long term contracts. They should have a 3 year limit. Players nearly always drop off in form after getting these huge contracts. Why bother training hard when you are financially set for life,
Its also a bad look for clubs when they try to offload them.
Grundy is 28 and will be 33 when the contract is up
Players are assets. You pile on assets and sell them off at right price. Dogs GWS Saints may pay overs for them

With the way inflation is at the moment the Grundy long term deal at $7 million is a great deal. In another 5 years a player of his caliber will be worth 10 million plus for the same term.

He negotiated a smart contract. If he doesn’t want to leave, he shouldn’t have to. Hold them to the concert or grab all the cash you can and move on. Collingwood having to pay him while he rips them apart with an opposition team. Who wouldn’t want to see that.

I think Ross is misunderstanding the function of list manager or president & coach. A coach cannot and would not come out and say a player is not wanted, list management is not their responsibility. A list manager or president of football operations or whatever the title you want to go with could come out and say that they are working with the player to find the best outcome for their future, as that is their responsibility. So in a logical sense a coach saying one thing and a list manager saying another is an intended function of the roles within the club. They look after different things so they would be saying different things about a particular player in question. Its not irregular in fact it demonstrates those departments are behaving as they should be.

@@fixxxer7030 thats the contract they pulled, not his current one. It will still be in the new one we offer, but obviously we are dropping his salary or the number of years we offer. Thats why he is shopping around.
