Who NEEDS Surgery For Lumbar Spinal Stenosis (Part 3)

- Spinal stenosis is when the nerves are compressed and pinched. This causes pain- but not always! Not everyone needs surgery just because they have lumbar stenosis on an MRI. This video will help patients and providers understand who NEEDS surgery!

Yes!
I have never seen any positive comments for these procedures
Posted this comment a lot
I saw one. O N E. Not a good record.
Yea and it’s typically people commenting with one year of their operations… at 20 years, nobody is going to be better off, they just get so depressed they stop talking about it. I had it at 23, I’m 26 now and my life SUCKS
Well done videos and explanations. I just had my first consult with spine doctor here in South Carolina. MRI presented spine slipping forward and narrowing of column tube. During clinical evaluation, I almost fell on top of my Dr when trying to walk on my heel to toe. My left side is week, muscle tremors with shaking, left thigh muscle wants to turn inward, I have fallen due to muscles giving out. Looks like I am a candidate for surgery with rods, screws and fusion using some near by bone and some spinal fluid.
Thanks again,
Dr Michael Hovanec
Thank you so much
I've had four back the last surgery the last surgery was a 2-day surgery 9 hours one day 7 hours till the next day, the surgery that I had was from T8 to S2 16 screws plus one screw in my left pelvis to hold everything together then three disc replacement and to do the discs replacements they had to cut me on my side and move some of my organs out of the way and that's not all what they did I'm in so much pain right now
Wow
My experience has been to try the least invasive treatment first. I blew several discs in 2007 causing severe sciatica down my left leg. My doctor and I went down the list. Tried everything. Five years into it and the pain finally became unmanageable. I had a spinal fusion L4 L5, L5 S1 and it worked. In 2019 it came back low lumbar back pain, some sciatica and shooting pain in my arms. I have spinal stenosis in several places, but L3 L4 seems to be the worst. I'm having an epidural on the 5th and can't wait. It's complicated by osteoarthritis not just in my back but my hips. For me I know my insurance is going to want to see attemps made that are less invasive before trying surgery. Surgery is a big deal. I'm a widow too, so recovery from surgery would at home might mean I need home health care unless my daughter's could help out for awhile. Spinal fusion to 4 months to recover. I'm very hopeful this will help, even if only for awhile.
Ok
Ruthless comment
Why do these surgeons never mention the minimally invasive procedures that are now available, like Veriflexmand MILD ?
Bc surgeons know veriflex is trash and only placed by pain docs doing spine surgeon 👨⚕️
Thats what Im going threw. Exactly. The heal of my foot placed on the floor makes my legs want to buckle up at times. ❤ I think Im definitely a canadate for spinal surgery.
Hey there, I do about 15 new patient telemedicines💻🌎 every week. Here is the best path forward:
1- email your insurance card to Spine@TSCspine.com (We don’t take HMOs or Medicaid, but can private pay, unless Medicaid)
2- if we take that insurance THEN upload your images to my portal for our 1st visit.
3- I must have X-rays and MRI, X-rays are critical! “Just” MRI isn’t enough. Need to be from last 12 months. Nothing older is needed, or wanted.
4- You need to get your CD 💿 of your X-ray and MRI (imaging centers will never send them to us)
5- On the top of my website (www.DonnallySpine.com) is the link to UPLOAD images, from YOUR HOME! 🤯🥰 (or at a CVS with Physician LookUp Code k5037438)

I’m 21 and going through this I’m too young for this I cried when I found out my dreams of being a boxer was over I’m scared of getting surgery because I don’t wanna be paralyzed I don’t wish this on nobody not even my worst enemy
Is it in the spine
@@DonnallySpineConsultdoc said hits hitting my nerve I only get pain when I’m lifting something or going for a run
Dr. Donally, I had a double level spine surgery at L2-L3 (lateral entry through my side) and a L5-S1 ALIF on Aug. 1, 2023. The surgeon placed a cage in L2-L3 to open up the disc space. Everything was great for 1st 2 months. I had a bad fall flat on my back, plus I teach martial arts (for 45 years) and I may have done some things that I probably shouldn’t have so soon. (I’m my own worst enemy.). Anyway , I began feeling pain going down both legs that has become unbearable! My dr. Ordered an MRI and yesterday we reviewed it. He said I have a huge disc herniating at the L2-L3 level and stated he doesn’t know how I’m even walking. We’ve scheduled another surgery where he’ll go in thru my back, remove the bone, and fuse the discs. In your opinion, is this what you’d prescribe? I’ve tried 2 courses of a 6 day steroidal pill pack, also oxycodone doesn’t even help the pain. Did I do this to myself by either falling or doing more than I probably should have while teaching. I DO remember one night when I was teaching an adult class, I felt a twinge in my back and said to myself, “that doesn’t feel good or right”. My surgeon has done 2 other fusions on me in the past with no problems. He is well respected and works at a practice in Northern Virginia so I think I’m the cause of this herniation. What’s your comments? Thanks from an old martial artist that has hopefully learned a lesson.

I really learned alot from watching this informative video. I'm having alot of back pain it goes all the way down my leg it hurts like hell I can't bend or stoop or reach into my cupboard without using my grabber
Let’s fix it
I have lower back pain that presents after walking for 2 hours. A CT scan showed Broad Based Disc Protrusions at L4-L5 and L5 to S1. Spondylosis of the lumbar spine. I have NO leg pain whatsoever. The first surgeon suggested a spinal fusion and I said NO. Then he said 2 Coflex spacers. I got a second opinion and he said if I don't have leg pain, the Coflex spacers would do more harm than good. He suggested a laminectomy. Any thoughts?
I responded to your other comment
I was in a wreck 2 years ago of course went to chiropractor who was a joke well now for 2 years my life has been miserable I can’t do anything with my kids I’ve gained weight because I can’t walk longer than 2-6 min before my whole bottom half goes completely numb and muscles in back start to spasm and burn … only way to describe is in school I ran track and when we had to push and not stop your legs go numb and feel like jello, I have to immediately lean over something but I also start having a panic attack I can’t go to store that had a cart because I am able to lean over and push cart around, I have no insurance so sadly I’ll be living like this which is so sad because I no longer can be a mom that I once was I can’t take my kids to park I can’t do anything because I can’t make it through a parking lot even if parked in front, also I have scoliosis my top spine was fused at age 11 it was found at age 5 but lower is still slight curved, I’m 37

I have Ben going through pain management for 5 years and everything was working fine and night my left leg was locked on me I thought it was muscle spasm. I thought it was going to go away but it didn’t. It got worse than the day I have to go to the ER3 times. MRI indicate that was a pension nerve from lumber five disc and S1 that cost my whole leg to shut down and every day again worse and more pain, spoke with the surgeon young guy name dr B.shammissian in New Orleans he doesn’t seem to know what’s going on. I Ben like that for a month now all doors closed in my face. I’m trying to get back to normal life and this pain I’m having is not describable. I try PT for 5 years try to avoid surgery in till that night were my whole life turned upside down. I need an advice so I can till this surgeon so my pain and problems won’t get worse. Thanks

Again- no HMO, no Medicaid. Must have your X-rays and MRI.
Does foot drop ever improve without surgery?
Not usually
i have weakness in both of my legs and they still won’t do surgery and are making me to PT first without pain meds…. i am so miserable and terrified
Why won’t they
I have really loved your videos. Very informative! I am trying to determine what and where I should go to for repair of my lumbar spine. But I have a lingering question. i have had a lot of kidney stones, both types, and the last one got stuck so that had to use Holmium laser lithotripsy be used to break up the stone and remove the fragments. Why could this not be used for osteophytes in the lumbar spine?
Any shooting down the leg?

My dad became paralyzed from the neck down right after surgery, doctor told me when she went through the back of his neck she “lost” whatever she had and needed to close him up asap.. then went to the front of his neck and said she was satisfied with that and said we just had to wait now.. when he woke up from anesthesia he couldn’t move anything only his head and couldn’t talk due to surgery in front of neck. He never got better and ended up passing a month later.. I just don’t understand I feel like there was some malpractice or something. Does this sound normal to you ? 💔
Hard to say without seeing
Hi, I am 17 years old girl and I am having this problem of lumbar spine stenosis from last seven months. This was due to a small accident which caused us disc at L4 L5 and S1 region. My AP diameter of L4, L5 region is 8 mm and L5 S1 region is 9 mm. I want to increase the diameter up to 12 mm with exercises but I don’t want to go for surgery. I’m really afraid I want to leave my life to the fullest. I am very overweight. My weight is 90 KG. I’m trying to lose it.😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Okay good luck!
@@DonnallySpineConsult "My AP diameter of L4, L5 region is 8 mm and L5 S1 region is 9 mm” Is there a severe stenosis ?
"I want to increase the diameter up to 12 mm with exercises”
Is that even possible ??
So I recently injured myself and I have central and bilateral disc protrusion at the L5-S1 level, more marked on the right side with impingement on the thecal sac and both S1 nerve roots. I was in severe pain but have been doing PT for 3 weeks now. My main issue now is the numbness on my right leg which I guess is the S1 nerve. I am scheduled for an epidural injection on 9-12-23, will that actually help with the nerve pain or will I still need some type of surgery? I know you can't answer specifically on my case, but in general do epidural injections calm the nerve pain? Thank you in advance Dr. Donnally.
Thanks for the follow
@@DonnallySpineConsulthe asked a question lol
What about painful neuropathy in feet? Would surgery correct it?
Not sure
My neurosurgeon said no, yesterday, regarding my neuropathy....😢
is there any way to restore mobility from previous spinal fusion surgery at L1-L2 (PSF)? using TOPS Total Lumbar Facet Replacement or something else? thanks doc
Tops is dumb
@@DonnallySpineConsultWhy? Can you extrapolate? These comments are too anemic.
The issue becomes when you have spinal stenosis and and Spondy in the same area. Do you just do a laminectomy or both a laminectomy and a fusion to stabilize the spondy? That is the big question I have now.
