    Thank you for sharing the replacement steps. Until I get the hot shoe replacement, I am forced to use this flash off camera with a wireless transmitter and that turned out to be a welcoming change in my flash photography.

      Strange how circumstances teach new techniques. I'm happy you're enjoying off camera flash. Next, try putting your strobe behind a subject at night and shooting a silhouette. You'll be amazed. Level that tip up by squirting a bottle of mist in front of the camera lens (not on the lens) to add a backlit particulate effect to your silhouette. Those are just a couple of fun ways to start playing with off camera strobe technique. Cheers.

    Next week, change the sensor of your camera ;-)
    Basically those big flashes including batteries are a bit top heavy for those connectors especially when you hold de camera sideways like when you are walking and not shooting in the mean time.

      haha, not quite yet on the sensor thing... but one day, lol. I have a couple vides about fixing strobes and they seem to help people. I know I was really urked the first time it happened. Yeah, the strobes aren't made for the kind of abuse walking with one dangling off your camera for over 6- 8 miles on an average full wedding day... and I have two cameras on slings over my shoulders, so it's doubly so. Cheers, Rob!

    I just switched out my V1 hot shoe (Nikon) and it's so hard to get the hot shoe on and off the camera body now. Did I do something wrong? The flash fires and works but I would hate for it to get stuck on my camera.

    • @RobertHamm
      @RobertHamm  2 года назад +1

      as long as it works, youre probably ok. I notice that some of my replacements have not been made to the same tolorances, thereby making some tighter than others. It's a real pain, but it works. Cheers!

    So, I have a V1 for Nikon. The ring that locks the flash broke. I'm pretty sure here's a spring rattling around in there. It sounds like I can fix that with this solution, yes? I had no idea you could buy these pieces!

    • @RobertHamm
      @RobertHamm  3 года назад

      Yes. Take your batteries out of the flash first. Then take the bottom shoe off and make sure to look for any connections that pop off when you remove the shoe. Look around and see what there is inside. I'm sure you will find little pieces inside. Then you will know if you can fix it before you buy a replacement. That way, it it can't be fixed, then you won't waste money.

    • @RobertHamm
      @RobertHamm  Год назад

      Sounds like a main board problem. Probably a loose connection. Take them apart, film it so you can reference the video if you need help putting them abck together. Start with the base, then the body. Leave the strobe part alone if possible. You should be able to access the main board and daughter boards (if there are any) and any connections that are important for power. Good luck.

    • @RobertHamm
      @RobertHamm  2 года назад +1

      I believe so. The internal connector is a ribbon cable and is likely standard across all models. The only issue may be the daughter board that the cable connects to. It may be different from model to model.

    • @RobertHamm

      It's a connector that applies pressure to the swivel lock knob. It's helpful when releasing the lock to take off the strobe.

    I'll need to do that, but unfortunately my problem right now is that the unit is stuck into my camera and I thought in carfuly remove the 4 screws but it seems like it's almost impossible because the camera itself blocks the space to do it. And I don't want to use extreme force because I'm not sure if that could also break the camera's hotshoe... what a mess... BTW my camera or flash didn't fell or anything like that I think I got a defective V1 hotshoe.
    Any tips of how can I unstuck it?

    • @philgoodframeworks
      @philgoodframeworks 2 года назад

      Hopefully you've got it by now, but on the front of the bottom of the flash right where it connects to the camera, there's a small slit opening that you can stick a tiny screwdriver or paperclip through and it will release the flash. Just had to do mine last night dmfir the first time 😡

    Gone through 2 flashes in 2 shoots. One snapped off at the base under its own weight, the other I went to adjust the setting and it too snapped off at the base. This can’t be normal for these flashes.

    • @RobertHamm
      @RobertHamm  Год назад

      Not normal, but I have experienced exactly what you describe. I generally replace one hotshoe per flash each year. I carry two cameras on a shoulder rog ( left and right arms) with battery grip and strobes attached. I notice the most breakage when the cameras are hanging by my side. Since realizing this, I generally keep my hands on each camera when not shooting with it to help keep it from swinging. That has reduced my V1 break incidents. I have never broken a hotshoe on a strobe before the V1 series. I still use them, though. I like them.. most of the time, lol.
