  • This track is really sublime. So short, but says so much. It's a real broken song for a broken people, who maybe deep down may long for their old lives, but cant understand how far away those lives truly are. loved it!

      I watched all day yesterday it was so much fun! I wanted to mention, you were confused about whether the quest was more or less personal and I think the intention was that New War was an exploration of the other people in the Tenno's life, not the Tenno ourselves. The Lotus and Ballas, Teshin and Valeria, Erra and Hunhow, and in the midst of it all we managed to metaphorically find our adult self and give strength back to them. That's my belief anyway I hope you find it interesting. Thanks for everything I've had a lot of fun watching alongside you, you're really insightful, take all the time you need!

    Someone pointed out to me that in "We Lift Together", the refrain is sung in unison, whereas in "Narmer" it's sung in harmony, representing the loss of unity under the influence of the veils. Very musically interesting.

    That scene hurt so much. I was expecting to find Fortuna a bastion of resistance, ready to help Eudico resist another tyrant. Then I heard those first notes and immediately knew something was very wrong. I already hated Ballas but seeing that brought it to a new level.

      I broke the rubber on the armrests of my chair when i first heard this song, because i was clenching them so hard. I didn't even realize i was doing it until the damage was done, both physically to my chair and to me emotionally. Fortuna was the #1 faction i cared about. This was utterly utterly devastating to experience.

      SAAAAAME.
      I _LOVE_ the Solaris. Honest, hard working blue collar people that promote community without sacrificing individuality, holding each other up as they work for a better future. It’s inspiring.
      Upon loading the quest, defeating Ballas and rescuing everyone was just my duty. The moment I saw how Fortuna was corrupted, how Ballas turned them into mindless drones meant to slave for and worship him, my task became _viscerally_ personal.

    "golden son" is something i believe has two meanings, Ballas, being one of the "golden lords"; the orokin.
    I think it also refers to Ballas's plan later with the literal sun, how the sentient fleet "runs" to it.

    • @chillax319
      @chillax319 8 месяцев назад +6

      Yup. It's both sun and the son. And since Narmer and the whole schtick is dipped in Egyptian influence you can also see Ballas as his own attempt on becoming Aten, the single and only god that one of Egyptian pharaohs tried to push for.

  • @Ashurman666

    And now you have both visuals AND context for this song. It's still haunting. I just wish Narmer had a bigger presence in the world. What Ballas did to Fortuna, it made me hate him so much. Especially when I saw what happened to the Vent Kids. I never hated a villain as much as Ballas

      Such a shame they couldn't make it longer, fell a little flat for me to be honest. The whole storyline of the new war could've used multiple extra hours. For the people who played warframe for countless hours preceding the new war, this quest probably hit way harder, but I started just before whispers in the walls. I never had the time to create that connection with fortuna and its people. I didn't even know about the ventkids before it.

      @@SunyataManji You make a good point, and that sort of adds to the duality of the things that made it fall flat for me. Our loss against Ballas is supposed to be the most devastating single event in the origin system since the fall of the orokin, and yet nothing has demonstrably changed, except a few wrecks in the starchart. There's no quantifiable effect that Narmer had on the origin system, despite supposedly enslaving quite literally everyone.

    I remember first stepping into Fortuna to see this, and it felt crushing. The soft blues and contrasting neon pinks and oranges of Fortuna were now replaced with this sickening red and gold, the song just having this eery quality to it, where "We All Lift Together" had this feel of unique identity from each voice that joined in, now we had "For Narmer" where the monotone harmony just meant one thing: enslavement and servitude.
    And when you really love this particular faction and region of the game (like myself, I really love Fortuna and Orb Vallis) you kinda end up hating "For Narmer", but in a good way, you hate it because it's the opposite of what Fortuna is.
    Also, fun fact about why Ballas named himself Narmer after he won that also enhances "For Narmer"! Narmer was an actual Egyptian king back in the yee ol' days of anciant Egypt, and back then Egypt was seperated in 2 by the Nile, you had upper Nile and lower Nile. Narmer was the king who managed to unify both parts of the Nile into one. And Ballas, with the usage of his veils did exactly that, he unified the solar system under banner, his. This also explains why you see a lot of imagery in this mission that alludes to Egyptian iconography.

    "For Narmer" hits so hard if you take a moment to think about it. "We all lift together" was a song of hope, of perseverance through hard times, a song to get you through, while "For Narmer" is a song after they've been ground under Nef Anyo's heel, having the Tenno fight for them and despite all that fighting they then get subjugated by Narmer. It's a song, of a people, who have given up. They've got nothing left. The Tenno are gone, noone else can stand up to Narmer. They serve Narmer because......... what other choice do they have? :(

    As others have said, this song pretty much enforced the point: We Lost. There's no resistance, no uprising, no hope. The one place we might have expected to hold out has completely, entirely and utterly fallen to the oppressor, to Ballas and his Sentient Army. It isn't even the Operator who we're playing as, they're off drifting in the Void somewhere. We are well and truly on our own.
    We. Lost.

    • @addmen96
      @addmen96 8 месяцев назад

      Deimos was safe from Narmer since Entrati's existence is a secret only few knows.
      Queen's fortress is likely remained hidden, but they can't do shit with decaons able to veil people on the fly
      Small pockets or resistence could've existed, but again they can't do anything significant without risk of getting veiled.
      Wonder why drifter didn't just recapture the throne and used Dominus's forces to liberate the solar system..

    • @DimkaTsv
      @DimkaTsv 7 месяцев назад

      @@addmen96 Because Dominus and Duviri can only exist in Void as concept. Drifter is one of extremely few real entities in it. Others are just creations of thoughts, dead Zariman crew and people who died to Void (including those whose fresh bodies fell into Void, aka Teshin) and concepts turned into reality. They are not conventionally alive, so they cannot cross Zariman 10-0 which also works as wall dividing immaterial Void and material world (aka Solar System). Or they would just disappear. Some may linger on Zariman, but cannot go outside of it, as they are creations of Void and need it to sustain their "lives"
      Moreover there is heavy suggestion that Drifter was one who created Duviri in the first place. But this place is not in full range of his control, it has set of rules which were written at moment of creation basically. As this place was based on memories, stories and fairy tales, well, it cannot change significantly at any time.

    When you talk about the singing in the background ambience of the orokin tower tileset being similar to the scene here, i believe this is linked because of the "neural sentry" devices. So the corrupted enemies you get in orokin tower tilesets all have the neural sentry masks on which corrupts" them. Basicly orokin mind control devices which make the subjects defend the tower.
    Here with narmer we see Ballas use a very similar device to control a population. The singing is the effect of the neural sentry basicly.

    Like many others have said, this part of the quest hit me _hard._ I already hated Ballas from the get go with his smug victory speech and gaslighting of the entire system (and before that with all the stuff you see and hear him do from his introduction to the story onwards), but I have this personal headcanon that the folks of SU are like an extended family to the Tenno and I just love their vibe in general; so seeing the entire community crushed and singing praises to this new tyranny combined with all the ruined, vacant storefronts just felt like an emotional gut punch. I don’t know how much worse it would’ve been if all our SU buddies had still been there, standing around with a veil on their head units like the folks in Cetus later on.

  • @thorveim1174
    @thorveim1174 8 месяцев назад

    note, there is a complete version of the song online. The lyrics do NOT get any less devastating
    "Here today we sing our story
    With Ballas we have found our home
    Virtue once was work together
    But virtue now is lift alone
    Free we are now from each other
    Brothers, sisters, daughters, sons
    Where once we dreamt of independence
    Now we stand and dream alone"
    and overall, it couldnt have happened to worst people. the Solaris were alreay oppressed by a tyrant, debt slaves with barely a hope of a better tomorrow, a meager flame that nonetheless was enough to keep them strong.. and narmer snuffed that hope entirely, crushing them completely like Nef never could while preventing ANY rebellion from even forming when no one was more deserving of a better tomorrow.
