    • @samc9133
      @samc9133 7 месяцев назад +2

@@mellowviewer I remember the same. I feel there must be some level of colloquial knowledge because otherwise it'd be pretty hard to tell what class or clan or family line someone is with, yeah? Because that stuff does matter to the extent that Thel banishes one elite and his entire lineage at one point, and that same book also talks about Thel not knowing his parentage. At least I'm pretty sure it's Thel. I think book is Cole Protocol... Anyone correct me if I'm missing some details here, I read like all the Halo books one after the other over just a couple weeks so some details blur together, but I definitely only recall a sort of communal rumor mill of parentage, not a formalized recognition at any point.

Thing is the Sangheili although a military society, they have a honor system.
During the covenant era, fighting in combat was a means of gaining respect and rank, as well as not knowing who your father was made it about absolute self improvement.
If your father was a fleet master commanding the entire armada and everyone knew it, the only way you could gain any noticeable "honor" would be to do better than him in a military and honor society.
This is one thing compared to irl, because in the Sangheili world at the time, not knowing who's kids who's made sure everyone in their own rights had a form of honor one way or another, whereas irl, there's no system, or at least similar... to allow everyone the same opportunity.
But of course I assume this practice changed since the Elites conspired against the Covenant to a more, what we would call "natural" way of life where children know who their parents are, and the parents the same.
A thing to mention with Covenant era Sangheili, even if a female did get pregnant by a "high society" member the child itself would be raised by a different family. So technically partners in a relationship won't have to take care of a child if they don't want to... but such thing could be considered dishonorable because you'd be striping the fight for glory from the child.

It's hilarious how every sword design is being explained in universe. Where the real explanation is that the designers JUST HAD TO put their own spin on the design.

So the funny thing about the end comment is, male Sangheili don't even get to directly raise their own kids. All young Sangheili are raised in large groups in family Keeps. They know their mother, but they don't know their father. That keeps them from becoming too arrogant due to their bloodline. The fathers know who their offspring are, but the offspring don't know who their dad is.

Could you imagine when Halo infinite first came out? It actually looked as good as these pictures/videos graphically like it should’ve running on the most powerful series X…. all I know is the next halo game I keep hearing new rumors it’s being developed on the unreal five engine I’m gonna say they’re finally gonna do a huge graphical leap in the next game and it’s probably gonna launch in 2027 on the brand new Xbox

Fun fact: the color of the blade *_does not_* indicate the purpose of an Energy Sword.
An Energy Sword having a red blade *_does not_* mean it is used for executions. The red blade is used *only* by members of the Silent Shadow, which were essentially the Covenant’s equivalent of Spartan Headhunters. The Silent Shadow often would serve as executioners, but that was not their only role. Silent Shadow would often be deployed in kill-teams, lead by a “First Blade” to perform reconnissance behind enemy lines, to take out high-value targets (usually Spartans), or even to board and attempt to capture UNSC vessels. Silent Shadow would also be tasked to shadow Shipmasters and Fleetmasters of high-renown, and would often serve in an advisory role to said individual.
The reason why a red-bladed Energy Sword was being used to execute Atriox was because it was a member of the Silent Shadow wielding it, specifically the “First Blade” serving as the commander of the Spartan-Hunting team Atriox was part of (another task of the Silent Shadow - keeping the Jiralhanae in check), not that the blade was solely for executions.

The whole breeding thing that strictly to the anime and that sounds more like something that was headed by someone who's rather Japanese or deeply entrenched in Japanese culture people forget that just because something is classified as Halo doesn't mean that it's actually part of the lore

Isnt necessarily only the aristocrats who can't marry. Aristocrats still can marry and practice with the vlade, however its the Bladesmasters. The sangheili with names ending in "ai" suffixes who are disallowed to marry, but are encouraged to breed. A bladesmaster is encouraged to breed because Sangheili belief is to pass on those strong genes as far as possible so the species qs a whole benefits amd becomes stronger

Something he forgot to mention is that in the military it's much more loose on who can wield a blade. The aristocratic thing tends to apply mainly to civilian Sanghili. It's like how in america you need special permits to own an assault weapon but in the military everyone is trained to use one

The thing with colour is a bit weird and sounds kinda star wars-y. I thought covenant plasma has colour based on hot hot it is. Based on physics, red energy sword would be less hot than blue, therefore, less effective at cutting.

  • @omegawolfbrony

Well, Sangheli children aren't allowed to know who their father is usually. As far as most know their mother's husband is just another uncle. This was to make sure the children were on equal footing with one another. I'm pretty sure this was in the Shadow of Intent book. If not, then in one of the shorter Halo books.
