I appreciate you giving me all the descriptors I needed to pull the trigger. I have a variety of vintage HiFi systems throughout the house, all with large floor standing speakers for the full experience. However I am looking for a solid solution for the bathroom to listen to music while I shower, and also something for the kitchen where we spend plenty of time as well. Neither location has a lot real estate to give up, so ceiling speakers are my only feasible option. Albeit they will Not be 8ft above our heads. I want to get the best sound I can out of these and have the ability to use Airplay 2 without buying yet another Airport Gen2 to do it (I have 8 already). Now that the amp is settled, I just have to figure out what ceiling speakers are going to give me the best experience…. This part is going to be tricky, but the amp part was already giving me anxiety until now :) My long way of saying, Thank you so much for your eloquent review!
For the shower a small JBL charge bluetooth speaker works like a charm! It's not like you're gonna discern the finer details underneath a shower head. It's a similar story in the kitchen with the vent hood and oven fan.
@@user-xg6zz8qs3qI’m hosing a google home wich is fairly comparative in volume. Even in a shower you can tell a vast difference in sound quality to a point. In addition, I want something overhead so there is no impedance from a door, shower curtain, etc. Plus I can get more volume and wider frequency range. A JBL charge bottoms out at 58.2hz, probably at -10db. Good ceiling speakers can allow me to get as low as 30-32hz +/-3db. In addition my shower area doesn’t have a counter as that part of the bathroom is separate. So I have to keep it sitting inside a linen cabinet, which isn’t ideal either. Lastly, a JBL charge forces me to use Bluetooth im sure which is cumbersome compared to using AirPlay via WiFi. Plus WiFi/airplay gives me a more reliable connection with better bandwidth. And it allows me to play the same thing simultaneously in my bedroom and bathroom at the same time. So as I migrate from shower to “powder room” to bedroom, I can keep rocking.
OK, Sold and just ordered one. Going to use this as the core of secondary music and AV audio system The HDMI ARC input is one of the things that really makes this a standout compared to anything else on the market short of say an Eversolo A8, as I can also integrate into my video. I plan on initially pairing it with some Elac Debut B5 speakers I already have, but would love some recommendations on great $500-$800 speakers and/or subwoofers to pair it with. Floor-standing speakers would be a plus, but far fewer quality optons in that price range.
I have a holiday home with a Sonos Ray as the soundbar on my lounge TV. I’ve always been disappointed with the sound quality is the Ray, but couldn’t justify spending more on a better bar. However, this looks great! What has your experience been, using this in a basic AV setup? Thanks
I listened to that a few nights ago off of Rock n Soul! Great f'ing track! I saw a private John Oates show for 100 people last summer. Interviewed him. I'm also in a scene with him in a movie call Totally Baked. True story!

"I understand what you're saying. I've heard some amazing sound systems with 50k systems and 32k speakers of British pounds. However, it's possible to get very close to that level of sound quality with a 1k amp, 1k pre, £100 Dac, and a 200 CD player, along with 1k speakers. I personally purchased all of the above, mostly Myryad, and 1972 larger Goodmans speakers with a high pass separate Tweeter added. I also use a Sony DVD player as the laser is better. All of this cost me £500, and it truly sounds amazing. I have Tannoy D300 and Monitor Audio speakers B2 which I bi-amp. If I want to listen to different styles of music, I simply change speakers using a switch. For under a grand a have all this and another Sony 7.1 amp also with a tannoy speakers 5.1 set up , I got the speakers and bass bin for £70 . I only use the bin, really, and use the smaller speaker for my computer decks. It's amazing what you can buy for under a grand second hand. Plus, the thing is, if something breaks , get stolen, i can replace it at low cost as they aren't taking my speakers as the weight too much and are too large.
Hi Disruptor Bob Just seen your video, which I found very informative and could be a game changer for me personally. I've just got one question, what is displayed when you connect a monitor or TV screen to this amplifier when playing music from an LP (record) or CD? I assume streaming music will have it's own visuals.
I was just thinking about that. People listen to music on their phones and think it sounds great I share your thought process. I’m on the edge of getting the WIIM!
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog yep, that's the one 👍 I cleaned it yesterday and listened to it today. A little occasional background noise, but nothing terrible. Her voice still comes through clear and powerful.
Simple question I’m buying a wiim amp just to use for my tv with two mission bookshelf speakers and an rel sub Main question is just using my phone on Spotify to Bluetooth is that better from the phone to powered speakers or the wiim is better ?
Hi Bob.For a late-starter noob like myself, could you suggest a good speaker pairing to go along with the Wiim Amp at the sub-$500 range? For someone dipping their toe into the audiophile world for the first time, this is out-of-the-box simplicity for the likes of me, but I would love a little guidance on a speaker pairing that would do it justice. Thanks so much in advance!

I'm trying to work out my pathway to an excellent desktop and midfield system playing either streaming or via my Mac desktop (my old skool system lies unplayed whilst I listen via the HK Soundsticks & sub.) My first thought was to go active with a Kef LSX 2 or LT, or its PSB alternative, plus sub. I see the Wiim and now wonder whether I should go Wiim into passives (say the Pro-ject Box 5 S2) plus sub Both about the same spend, but any thoughts on which approach would give me best bang for my buck? ...or something else entirely?! Welcome anyone's thoughts 😊
I think I would rather have a choice that to go with a low cost built-in. I think part of the market this is aimed at has turntables with built-in stages. Thanks for watching!
I have seen nothing to believe you can in their supplied literature. I would think they would use that as a selling point. I could be mistaken. Thanks.
Nice review. For those 5% would you say the SMSL AL200 is better at recreating that space, and and air in the room? The AL200 was the first affordable class D amp to pull that off for me but it would be interesting to know where the Wiim Amp stands in that comparison.
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog Yeah, you did; it was the one you said have Technics G700 vibes (end game amp territory for me). I bought the AL200 on a bit of impulse buy after CAM liked it and my previous experience with class D wasn't great but was blown away by the AL200. But yeah, AL200 and Wiim Pro would be ballpark the same price and would be an interesting comparison.
Two quick things: 1) I might be having some sort of computer problem but for me the sound of this review (after the intro) only comes out of one channel. The cold open is full stereo, and the intro is full stereo, and then I can only hear you in my left ear after that. (Edit: It comes back to stereo for the B-roll, then back to left-side-only for the award ceremony, and back to stereo when you say "and on the back," and all the way through to the end.) 2) I bought the SMSL AO300 (not the AO200 or the A300, which are annoyingly similarly named) as a very gentle upgrade over the AL200 that you and Randy loved so much, paid $260 with some internet creativity -- but I haven't unboxed it yet because the speakers aren't here due to a shipping problem. (Dali Spektor 2's.) So do I need to return the SMSL and get this instead? Both are all-in-one, so I guess I'm asking if you think the Wiim dominates the AL200 in sound quality.
Sorry about the sound in your case. I auditioned video on MacBook Pro and my iPhone and didn't detect that specific issue. Maybe it's RUclips's processing. Sound is one of the biggest struggles in this game. Most of the time I use DJI wireless lavs. Thanks for the feedback. I like to hear WiiM if you want something that is more forgiving and has a great app! I like the sound. It also has a subwoofer output which (if I remember correctly ) the SMSL doesn't have. Good luck with your system... sounds like you are on the right track! Thanks for the feedback!
Not a complaint- just want to help. I noticed the same thing when my right channel went silent after the intro... Helpful reviews plus commentary on the value of music make your content so enjoyable!
Maybe... you could put a competitively priced system together of separates I suppose. But that WiiM is handsome and convenient. Their app is incredible, and they are always updating it! The SMSL AL200 DAC/amp is good. But no sub out and you would need to add a WiiM streamer. Good luck. Let me know what you come up with!
So are these amps really that much better than say a Yamaha RS202? It’s cool they have a streamer in them. But is the amp part in these small newer generation amps really that good?
Hard to say. These days the differences are so minut IMO. I mean... up to a price point. But there are times I just was to relax, and listen and not judge too hard. It's not endgame... but it ain't too shabby! It has its own flavor. But it's a steel at 299. I'd pay $100 for the app if I had to! WiiM is changing the game. That good for us consumers. How much better could a $1500 streamer be?
Why buy this when the Onkyo TX NR 393 is cheaper, more power, and has a 32 bit DAC / oh, and it's a class A/B with eARC and 2 subwoofer outputs: At Adorama for $199.00 Plus I can get all various Dolby formats for less? Nah - not worth it.

Congratulations on 5k....now let's get to 10k by Easter !
Goal set! Thanks!!!
I'm glad you found one!!!!
I have a holiday home with a Sonos Ray as the soundbar on my lounge TV. I’ve always been disappointed with the sound quality is the Ray, but couldn’t justify spending more on a better bar. However, this looks great! What has your experience been, using this in a basic AV setup? Thanks
Hall & Oates - I Can't Go For That (No Can Do) is one of my all time audio audition tracks for the layering. Try it and you may be blown away.
I listened to that a few nights ago off of Rock n Soul! Great f'ing track! I saw a private John Oates show for 100 people last summer. Interviewed him. I'm also in a scene with him in a movie call Totally Baked. True story!
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog Saw them live the first time in 1980 in Sarnia, Ontario and LOVED the show. Met Darryl Hall in the 90s at Q107 in Toronto when I was working for MuchMusic and he was very cool and loved to chat ANYTHING Detroit and Motown.
I'm now going to find Totally Baked and find that scene. LOL
Thanks very much for this just-in-time review of this amp, but thanks to all you reviewers, they are out of stock at Crutchfield! So enjoy it, but till I get mine, I'll be hating on you, but still avidly watching and enjoying your content. I like the rebel look, I was just waiting for the yell. Stay well my friend, and all the best.
They are probably already working on an updated version!
@UnitedStatesofAnalog May just have to get the Fosi ZA3. Oh wait, they are only available for pre-order. 😂😂. I guess I'll just go back on my meds and try to ignore my FOMO syndrome. Thanks for your reply, Sir. All the best. p.s. just give me the music and the bass impact in my chest, and I'm happy.
@@Simon_Hawkshaw sorry I activated your gear acquisition syndrome!
They are sold out in a lot of places. I might wait for the WiiM amp pro
Pro move!
Hi there, how does it match with the RP 600 M 1?
Thanks, but I will wait for the WIIM Amp plus or pro or however they will call their next model probably coming in a few months.
WiiM Pro Max II Deluxe 2.0 Limited!
Great video . What is that sweet jazz playing In your awesome b-roll?
Garage band!
Thanks!
LitlHickey, Gracias! You shouldn't have!
Hi Disruptor Bob
Just seen your video, which I found very informative and could be a game changer for me personally.
Great review. Very valid points. Thank you. .
Great review. Any update on Roon Ready support?
I do not have that news! Yet!
Excellent amp to review.
What an amazing value for someone starting out on their audio journey! Thanks for watching!
This WIIM AMP seems amazing..! I want one..! (or two).
Please use my link!!!
I ordered one at Crutchfield - still on back-ordered.
Cancel that and use my link! Just kidding. No... do it!
excelente video y reseña, acabo comprar el mio
Now to get a Wii 😅😊
I'd buy a Wii Amp!
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog 🤣 love it!
I just received that Nina Simone record you have in the background for Christmas!
Way to go eagle-eye! Nice spotting! I'm going to listen to it tonight! Did you get the red vinyl Target exclusive?
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog yep, that's the one 👍 I cleaned it yesterday and listened to it today. A little occasional background noise, but nothing terrible. Her voice still comes through clear and powerful.
Can't wait!
Simple question I’m buying a wiim amp just to use for my tv with two mission bookshelf speakers and an rel sub
Main question is just using my phone on Spotify to Bluetooth is that better from the phone to powered speakers or the wiim is better ?
I don't it matters that much with Bluetooth. Streaming is always better. Is that possible for you?
In Wiim we trust
Hi Bob.For a late-starter noob like myself, could you suggest a good speaker pairing to go along with the Wiim Amp at the sub-$500 range? For someone dipping their toe into the audiophile world for the first time, this is out-of-the-box simplicity for the likes of me, but I would love a little guidance on a speaker pairing that would do it justice. Thanks so much in advance!
I just bought a Wiim Amp and a pair of HECO 300 speakers. It’s going in a den. Any suggestion about what to add next. I’’m not a vinyl guy.
Do you like your HECO's, I just sprung for a demo pair!
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog haven’t gotten the WIIM amp yet. Not back in stock yet until 10th to 14th. I’ve got the HECO’S am waiting to run them off the WIIM. Best looking speaker I’ve seen (light cabinet). The cabinet is SOLID & as hard as a coconut. They are fairly heavy and almost twice as deep than they are wide. I’m got them on speaker stands ready to go. Will let you know what I think. Like the channel!
I'm trying to work out my pathway to an excellent desktop and midfield system playing either streaming or via my Mac desktop (my old skool system lies unplayed whilst I listen via the HK Soundsticks & sub.)
My first thought was to go active with a Kef LSX 2 or LT, or its PSB alternative, plus sub.
I see the Wiim and now wonder whether I should go Wiim into passives (say the Pro-ject Box 5 S2) plus sub
Both about the same spend, but any thoughts on which approach would give me best bang for my buck?
...or something else entirely?!
Welcome anyone's thoughts 😊
What speakers would you recommend with it? 🙌🏻
Needs a phono stage
I think I would rather have a choice that to go with a low cost built-in. I think part of the market this is aimed at has turntables with built-in stages. Thanks for watching!
Can you upgrade the op amps
I have seen nothing to believe you can in their supplied literature. I would think they would use that as a selling point. I could be mistaken. Thanks.
Ok so I have question.. this has a subwoofer output .. what is the internal crossover set at? Is it adjustable via the app ?
Hi, would these push martin logan 35xti to the max volume. These are 4ohms. Thanks.
Hi bob,
Will it sound good with quad speakers 11 L?
I was a WiiM dreamer
I'm a dream wiener!
The Question is, can I run it through my Sansui 8080 or my Marantz 2245? Thru say either and Aux channel or the Amp / Pre Amp loops?
I need to look. But, I have a working 2245 myself! Psych!
Nice review. For those 5% would you say the SMSL AL200 is better at recreating that space, and and air in the room? The AL200 was the first affordable class D amp to pull that off for me but it would be interesting to know where the Wiim Amp stands in that comparison.
I think I reviewed the 200 and I think I liked it. I've got to get it back out!
@@PhillioDoede I should have done a comparison!
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog Well, I guess you know what the next video is, lol.
@@PhillioDoedeRemember... you'll need to add a streamer if you are comparing to WiiM amp
Two quick things:
1) I might be having some sort of computer problem but for me the sound of this review (after the intro) only comes out of one channel. The cold open is full stereo, and the intro is full stereo, and then I can only hear you in my left ear after that. (Edit: It comes back to stereo for the B-roll, then back to left-side-only for the award ceremony, and back to stereo when you say "and on the back," and all the way through to the end.)
2) I bought the SMSL AO300 (not the AO200 or the A300, which are annoyingly similarly named) as a very gentle upgrade over the AL200 that you and Randy loved so much, paid $260 with some internet creativity -- but I haven't unboxed it yet because the speakers aren't here due to a shipping problem.
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog The AL200 doesn't have a subwoofer output but the AO300 -- which is apparently the same chipsets -- does.
Awesome! Wait until you use a $4k power cord, it will blow your mind!
Send me a link!
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog - I'm just kidding! A $4k power cord on a $300 amp? 😂😂
@@spacejaime I hear yah... but it might benefit from a better cable. Actually I think I have one I'm not using? Thanks for the idea!
Yes, an underground Hitler bunker will also improve the sound!
Would you pay $440 USD for it? I’m in Thailand and that’s the best deal that I can find. Use will be in a bedroom.
Maybe... you could put a competitively priced system together of separates I suppose. But that WiiM is handsome and convenient. Their app is incredible, and they are always updating it! The SMSL AL200 DAC/amp is good. But no sub out and you would need to add a WiiM streamer. Good luck. Let me know what you come up with!
Do you think this sounds better than the Arylic BP50?
Different, but I enjoy everything about the WiiM more. It has a coolness factor and a pride of ownership factor I just can't explain! It has guts!
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog Yah, I get it!
In Sweden they are $434
So are these amps really that much better than say a Yamaha RS202? It’s cool they have a streamer in them. But is the amp part in these small newer generation amps really that good?
Hard to say. These days the differences are so minut IMO. I mean... up to a price point. But there are times I just was to relax, and listen and not judge too hard. It's not endgame... but it ain't too shabby! It has its own flavor. But it's a steel at 299. I'd pay $100 for the app if I had to! WiiM is changing the game. That good for us consumers. How much better could a $1500 streamer be?
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog ya seems like a pretty dam good deal, especially for a secondary system or a garage. Good job WiiM!
Oh I care Bob. I care a lot. I see that Van Halen one step, how much better is it from the Walmart BG cut?
It's still in the shrink-dink!!! Maybe I'll split the seam tomorrow!
