- After more than 20 years of sitting abandoned and untouched, I am venturing into this $100 million casino resort to explore the incredible story of what happened here for the first time ever. How this entire hotel was built in the late 1990's with newer additions in the early 2000's like an 8 story, 230 room hotel tower along with two, thousand seat theatres. Astonishingly, these were only in use for around 3 years until the entire facility was closed and abandoned for good. Join me today as I find out what was left behind and how one of the largest casino brands in America, left this truly unprecedented structure like this today.

Genuinely the only Urban Exploration content I actually enjoy. All the drama and entertainment comes from the story and the visuals instead of getting chased by security and playing up some ghost stories
I've slacked off on watching their videos lately, but The Proper People is another great Urbex RUclips channel. With some of their really old content, it was more clickbaity with the thumbnail asking if the place is "haunted". But they moved away from that a long time ago.
I would also highly recommend the Proper People. They also give history behind the places, and are not overly chatty. Great cinematography, too.

If you're interested in private Toronto area residences that are slated to be demolished, Ethan Minnie has a fantastic channel, as well. The only drama you'll get is Ethan speechless or giddy. He approaches his work from a preservation of history for the purpose of prosperity perspective. It's simply a wholesome young man, loving what he does, who just wants to share his explores with others.

Love how your channel differs from 95% of other exploration videos. While most either give a brief synopsis of where they are at, and maybe a small bit of history, you take us on a journey from start to finish as you go through the abandoned establishments. Keep up the great work !!
Except not anywhere in the entire video does he inform viewers where he is. Not even in the synopsis. It's more than a little frustrating when you're having to replay the video to see if you missed something SO BASIC only to find out you've wasted your time because he didn't bother to mention something SO BASIC in the first place or anywhere after that.
@@isabellind1292 He intentionally obscured the name of this area so viewers wouldn't flock to it, for both their own safety and vandalism's sake. It's a huge problem with a lot of these kinds of channels
@@mariah5524 Nah, he names the locations of other abandoned places, not to mention, he wouldn't bother advising people not to visit or if they did not to vandalize it.
He'd have no reason to since he never divulged its location. If he wants to clarify why he didn't, fine but I can only go by his past videos where he does reveal this type of information and therefore must have left that part out in this one by mistake.

@@isabellind1292 I should think he left it out in an effort to discourage people to visit it, obviously it would be easy enough to find out where he is after some googling, which is why he recommends people not to visit it, he shows the location of more well known abandoned buildings, however since this one is untouched he would probably like to preserve that as it is such a rare sight, so therefore in an effort to do that he doesn't shout about the location of the site.
Jake, the amount of time and effort you put into these videos is beyond inspiring, these videos deserve to be on TV. It's funny you say they deserve to be on TV. I have found that some of these channels on RUclips are far superior to any TV show these days. It used to be you could turn on History, Discovery, etc. and get great shows like this, but now they are all crappy realty shows. I have been a fan of Bright Sun Films since before they changed their name. I am so happy that these types of shows can be found on RUclips as the old ways to watch these types of shows (History and such) have disappeared from TV.
I could totally see Jake getting a show on cable. And I would totally watch it!

The juxtaposition between practically brand new and dangerous ruins is stark and really hits home why being extra careful when doing urbex is so important.

I have family in the area near this Casino and I wanted to give a bit more info about this place, since I've also been here before it flooded:
First, it closed because it was essentially mismanaged into the ground. They tried to advertise everywhere, but there were actually several casinos in the area and these were much nicer and seen as much better than others. The hotel was seen as super low-quality, and since the property was only about 45 minutes from the nearest major city, it was seen as more of a day trip than an actual destination by the locals. It's also definitely not a sad story, because the company that owned property was basically using the casino as a cash cow, did not care about their reputation, and more. The family that I had in the area said they visited once when it was open, and the whole place was very scummy, and the theming really felt like it was very low budget.
The reason you don't see any vandalism here is actually for two reasons. First, the security is very good. There's regular patrols of the area, and if they know someone is inside the security company will call the police and have them wait for you to leave so they can legally trespass you. The access road to get here has been made impassable with big concrete barriers at the main entrance, and the whole property is fenced off. Second, there's also two casinos right next door that are still operating, and security there makes it nearly impossible to even get close to the abandoned property without getting the police called on you.
Having been there in 2009, I can honestly say that it's just not worth getting arrested or legally trespassed from the area. It was just an abandoned hotel when I was there, but from this video it really looks like there was a ton of damage done in the floods and I'd imagine that the structure is actively dangerous and the level of mold and mildew makes this look like somewhere I would never visit again. Thanks for not mentioning exactly where this place is!!!

What state is this?
We have/had a Harrahs, Jack Binions Horseshoe(now Harrahs Horseshoe), and one of these(plus 2 others, El Dorado & Margaritaville). Just like you say, this place was considered lower class than the rest. Because it was. Horseshoe is NICE inside. Harrahs was nice. They all were(we have 5 total). Except this place.
It eventually sold to another company who ran it for the rest of the time until recently, when it closed during the thing that's happened for the last 3 years. And it's always been considered to be under the rest of the casinos here.
@@J.C... We always did Roadhouse since it was always fairly cheap for a hottub suite during weekdays only lived 3 hours east. Payouts on slots were always pretty consistent & we never left with less than we came down with. The other hotels are nice but $$$&

I was especially struck by the murals and the sculptural details of all the palm fronds wrapping around the columns in the main entrance hall and decorating the ceiling. Likely a team of people did a lot of work to create such fun artistic details, and I can imagine how proud they must have been to see their designs realized and their hard work come to fruition when the hotel and casino were finished being built. Now they've long since moved on, and the world has moved on from this building... and their artwork is left as a sign that people once cared very much about this rotten, moldy, dark place. It's always so melancholy and poignant to see details like that in these abandoned structures; material proof of something as intangible and long-lost as people's effort and emotions.
That is some thing that always jumps out at me too. I wonder about how many people worked on these things, I wonder about the people who performed on the stages, all of the hands that made and touched and cleaned things, and where they went to.
I must say, after watching most of your videos, this is one of the most striking and sticks out to me. I think it's because, unlike a lot of abandoned locations that you visit, where the destruction is mostly due to vandalism and theft, this one is due purely to the elements and mould. The level of decay that the mould has caused is truly astounding.
Side note: I am so glad that you guys wear protection, such as respirator masks, when going to places like this. The risk to your health is very real and too many urban explorers don't protect themselves properly or at all.
Do you feel a sense of sadness when you explore abandoned buildings that were once teeming with people? I do when I've walked through abandoned buildings and can't quite articulate why I feel this way.

I do concur that is quite depressing to observe. But at the same token it offers a window into the rise and fall of ideas that were set in motion that led to this building’s current condition.
It is just depressing to see a place that used to bring joy into people's lives tossed aside with no care. All that is left from these places ultimately are the memories they were able to create.

I remember walking through the devastation after I lost my house to a cyclone in 2006. My books were mush, walls caved in, roof gone and yet my bratz doll car was seemingly almost placed, doors closed, in perfect condition, on top of the shattered glass from my bedroom window.
Driving around town afterwards, some houses had barely lost a gutter and others were rubble. 15 years later there were still houses with tarps, now abandoned after failed battles with insurance agencies

When you were walking through 'the hall of doom' into the buffet, I was laughing at myself because I realized I caught myself holding my breath. It was so disgusting I did not want to breathe in the mold. One of the things that really struck me was how the blades of the ceiling fans were just hanging down like a wilted or dead flower.
My wife commented that it lookes like an unused Last Of Us level.
I will never grow tired of these videos - I just love your story-telling, composure of your videos, and the respect and care you have for the places you visit. Truly one of my favorite explorers out there.

I stayed there with my grandparents back in 2000-2001. It’s sad what has become of this area. So many casinos and hotels have closed. The brand that built this still owns another one about 30 miles away with the same tropical theme.
That building is truly amazing! Some places look like they have been used and maintained yesterday, but some places look like salvaged Costa Concordia's interiors. Most amazing thing is that those 2 different worlds can be right next to other, divided only by doors.

Jake, once again Great job on this, you managed to capture everything needed in a nice short episode. The decay is amazing to see, the layers are literally separating as time moves on. As an HVAC guy I also applaud you for using PPE as you dont want to breath in those mold spores for even 5 min.

I've never been more excited then seeing a place I used to go to, recognizing it just from the fountain at the old drive. I went back a few years after the flood that closed the old GC as well. Im glad to see you exploring what's left of The Resorts.
Noticed lately in the Abandoned videos that the locations are not revealed so there's an additional aspect to watching these to figure out the location. As someone who has driven in and around the country multiple times it's fun to catch some clues in the footage along with Jake's commentary.
From other comments I see, Urbex youtube can attract folks looking to vandalize the area or get into some serious health and safety hazards with all the mildew and spores, it's better that it's left undisclosed. This will probably be the only urbex channel I'm watching as it seems like they're treating their content seriously and respect their surroundings.

We have a sister property to this one near us, and when I saw the interior I thought "wow this looks familiar!" Obviously the same design was used for all the properties. Great video, I really enjoyed it.

I want to thank you for providing so much inspiration. I write in my spare time, and started a small side idea about repurposing some of these abandoned and forgotten structures. I know it won't make any difference in the real world, but it feels nice to create a dream of what might happen if someone with billions to throw around and a goal in mind could create from these structures.
Something that is unnerving about very decayed abandoned buildings is that, for days, weeks, and possibly months at a time, every room in the building sits in total and complete silence. But every once in a while, a piece of metal or a bathroom vanity will fall, which loudly breaks the silence, only for the sound to not be heard by anything, and for deafening silence to fill its place immediately after, and for it to remain that way until another crash of decay breaks the silence.

I love the whole history to these videos, and the soundtrack really captures the heartbreak you see as you walk through. The hall where it looked like hell, reminded me of the game, silent hill, all crumbled, disgusting and brown like a rusty tunnel of sludge.

I've watched every single video you've produced. They're all very well made and very informative. You should do one about the Gold Strike/Terrible's in Jean Nevada. I worked there from 1998 to 2010. It closed during the pandemic. From what I've seen of the casino floor as it was in 2021, it's not going to reopen.
this is one of the most depressing places ive ever seen. a colorful building sat abandoned in a giant field of gray. completely untouched, no graffiti, no scrapping, no life whatsoever. astounding.

I used to travel through that area during the "boom" of casinos in the early 90's (had a good friend that was a pastor there), but haven't been back in the probably 25 years. Shame it all fell apart, but can't say as I'm surprised. That was always a pretty depressed area, and not exactly an "international tourist destination."

A look at this place made me realize why I'm terrified of some abandoned buildings, but not others. In most, you can still hear traffic, police sirens in the distance, the scurrying of animals, maybe even passersby or unhoused people.
Here, the only sound is yours. Something built to be so full of people is completely empty and completely silent. My monkey brain fills me with so much dread it's unbearable, like knowing something bad is happening in a forest when the birds stop singing.
you described it perfectly. but the idea of a place meant to be filled with so many people being empty and abandoned is also so alluring, too. it's what makes these videos so interesting to me.

WOW!!!The place is huge and only in operation for three years and sits empty for over 20+ years?? Why didn’t anyone invest in it?? What a terrible waste of what looks like a large hotel that someone or other persons could have made more profitable. It’s certainly spacious. Like new . Now that it’s been sitting empty for so long it has mould issues etc What a terrible waste of a once nice structure. I’m no expert but it was so beautiful and grand. Since he didn’t mention the name of the casino or where it’s located at, it’s only speculation, but I think this was one of the many gimmick casinos in the middle of nowhere. Still to today, there are many large casino hotels that are far away from any city or town that exist as a type of “getaway” experience. Since there are no residents or other attractions in the nearby area, when the casino and theater fails to gain attendance, so does the hotel. I think the moral of the story that large, multi-million dollar hotels don’t really work long-term unless they are next to or in a well-populated area.

It’s amazing that this has not been either demoed or put to some kind of use, considering there’s another casino immediately adjacent to it, and another right down the street.
If you get a chance, Jake, could you please make a video on the Colorado Belle Casino in Laughlin, Nevada? It closed at the start of the pandemic but was a pretty old and interesting casino. I learned to play Craps there.

Good music choices in this piece. I’ve heard your picks for these improve over time. Sometimes I’m just at a loss for words with how many places like this I see in the U.S. anymore. From dead malls all over (which is a whole sub-genre), to abandoned old downtowns, to larger metro areas in the rust belt like St. Louis, to places like this, sometime the United States feels sort of like the fall of Rome to me anymore. Or like some former Soviet states that look like this in Eastern Europe since the collapse of the U.S.S.R. It’s hard to see, especially if you’re even over about 25, and have any recollection of the ways anything used to be. I’m 43, almost 44 now, and I’ve had a really hard time dealing with it mentally.
I remember going to this place!
My mom, grandmother and I went there as part of a road trip and saw a show in the theater (it had audience participation and my grandmother was chosen).
It was a Christmas show (i think 2001), but if I remember correctly they built a miniature ice rink on the stage and had had a pairs team skating on it. (It was either this casino or the Beau Rivage, but I’m pretty sure it was this one).
A few weeks later they advertised for a show my mom was interested in, and so she bought tickets.
We showed up for the show, and they cancelled and never bothered to tell anyone, and only offered a refund after she complained.
We never actually ate there or stayed in the hotel, and something always felt “off” about the place. The staff was always standoffish if not outright rude.
The other casinos in the area were definitely more welcoming.

Respect your choice to keep it ambiguous, but damn im curious. The decay is one thing but the areas that look almost fine are even more creepy imo
I was able to find it on Google Earth after about half an hour of research. What I can tell you is it’s in Mississippi near the titular river and it doesn’t have a separate Wikipedia article. Of the 11 casinos the town it’s in once had, only 6 are still operating. At one time, it was third in the nation for highest gambling revenue, behind only Vegas and Atlantic City. But over about the past 10-15 years, it’s declined quite a bit, although I don’t really know why. The largest of all the casinos hotels, which has over 1,000 rooms and sits on a property over a mile long, has been abandoned since 2014. It’s quite an interesting story if you have the time and energy to find what place it is.

That is amazing how much damage there is .I can see why it's still standing because whomever took the demolition job on this property would have to first pay for mold removal and just that expense could imagine would be very expensive.
I did manage to figure out where this was after some Googling. There appear to be several other abandoned casinos nearby, as well as some still in business. The baffling part to me is how so many casinos got built around such a tiny town.
Land rush to build “riverboat” casinos is why the concentration of building in one small town. Needed to build in areas zoned for gambling. Market was people traveling from surrounding areas.
I can explain this actually. This is in my home state.
Back in the 90's, the state allowed casino barges for the first time and many of the first were built in this town. Later, my hometown on the other end of the state began building much larger casinos after laws about casinos changed over the years. It ended up killing the demand for the this town and led to my hometown booming in size.Funny enough, but we also had a casino owned by the same company, exact same theming, and exact same name. I used to work at it actually and its still there under a different name.
The natural decay here is a very, VERY rare sight for something so modern and inviting for vandals. I am sitting awe struck at it. Shocks a person when you see just how much changes when people don't ruin a building. A great video for anyone to study who wants to make art, games, etc. on a modern abandoned structure.

It's so sad because this genuinely looks like it would be such a cute convention center, but the amount of damage it's sustained over the years is too bad to ever make it usable again.
