How do you prepare the canvas? And how do you start your sketch? Rembrandt gives examples of different compositions and their effects on the appearance of the painting. The composition, the use of guiding lines, volumes, the preparation of the canvas and the first sketch on canvas are all addressed by Rembrandt.
ING presents: The Rembrandt Tutorials. A series of six tutorials with the voice of Rembrandt himself, you learn how to paint a portrait in the style of Rembrandt. Together with leading language experts from The Netherlands Language Institute and Rembrandt experts from The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, his painting technique, character and language were mapped. Subsequently, with this data and based on 60 self-portraits, Carnegie Mellon University reconstructed Rembrandt's voice.

Dit is me meer waard dan alle geld op de wereld en ook vooral dat ik zijn mooie lieve stem heb mogen horen. ik fantaseer dat Rembrandt mijn leermeester is...en door deze super video''s voel ik dat zo ook. En dat gevoel is zo speciaal dat ik het niet kan uitleggen, dat moet je echt voelen...daarom is mijn dank aan ING net zo groot als mijn blijheid! Oneindig groot! Nou de grootmeester roept ik moet terug naar mijn mooiste hobby, schilderen. Heel veel plezier lieve mensen!❤

Volgens mij wor dit real time geproduceert door de computer, misschien kun je het daarna editen zodat alle krakelingen eruit worden gehaalt en misschien ook met echte acteurs.
@@timowthie Volgens mij hebben ze enorm veel moeite gedaan om de stem van Rembrandt na te maken door maten te nemen op zijn zelfportretten en aan de hand daarvan te beredeneren hoe hij geklonken moet hebben.

Hello! I love this tutorial! Thank you very much!!! Question: At 6:49 or so, you lay two coats of paint on the canvas to prepare it - does it mean you do not use GESSO? Thank you again - muchas gracias!!! : )
In the 17th century method one normally would apply a double oil ground. The first one directly on the sized canvas, so without the gesso in between.. In this tutorial we used a modern gesso primed canvas though. And then applied two layers of oilpaint to render an optical effect, similar to that of the double oilground.

What is the filler added to the ochre? And what is the purpose of covering this with a neutral gray?
Chalk
Chalk. Neutral grey will give you the flexibility to better judge your darks and lights.
Alle lof voor Ing en het Rijks dat ze dit soort dingen online zetten, erg tof. Echter, zou het met een gewone stem kunnen i.p.v dit haast onverstaanbare computer gemompel?

Gelukkig kun je er ook de Nederlandse of Engelse ondertiteling bij kiezen, zodat je het allemaal op je gemak kunt lezen en als je wil ook toepassen.
@@INGnl Jammer dat de Ing alleen de complimenten er uit vist en daar op in gaat en alle reacties die aangeven dat het niet prettig en fake klinkt niet worden beantwoord. Heel apart.

Mooi deze tutorials. De stem vrij goed gedaan denk ik. Je zou denken dat hij Leids sprak omdat hij uit Leiden komt, maar dat was in de 16e en 17e eeuw toch echt anders. Wikipedia: "Het Leids is een Hollands dialect dat in de loop van de zestiende en vooral de zeventiende eeuw steeds verder af kwam te staan van de dialecten van de omliggende dorpen en steden. Dat wordt toegeschreven aan de grote immigratie vanuit Vlaanderen en Brabant, maar ook uit Frankrijk en Wallonië.[bron?]"
Dat verklaart hier dus zijn bijna Brabants-achtig accent, waar ik toch wel iets van een Leids accent doorheen hoor. (kom zelf uit Leiden) Goed gedaan, maar nog wel iets te robot achtig naar mijn smaak.

The filler is plain powdered chalk. (calcium carbonate)

That was chalk, but we know that in some cases Rembrandt also used a kind of sandy earth that he found locally.

De stem klinkt bijna West-Brabants, maar hij was een Hollander. Wanneer zijn de dialecten dan uit elkaar gegroeid?

They seem like jokes to me, but the synthetic voice doesn't do humor well.
Also, he is in a way correct: even if you copy someone else's piece of art beautifully, it will always have signs of your signature style. You can't escape your artistic handwriting. Even though I have had much more time and opportunity to learn to draw, you can still tell that drawings I did at twelve and drawings I did at 36 are done by the same hand.
He signed with only with his first name. That was something only the most famous italians did, do yes he was...

Well it's how it is. A lot of artists are like. It's how you have confidence in yourself and your work which results in amazing pieces.

Erg leuk, maar waarom is de stem voor de uitleg zo verschrikkelijk onduidelijk. Jammer!! Had graag heldere stem gehoord. Die stem mist zijn doel. Als hobbiest wil je de uitleg goed horen!

Goed bedoeld, maar na al die voorbereiding en de ophef toch een beetje een teleurstelling. Klinkt als een bestaande menselijke stem met een hoop gerotzooi eroverheen. Ik houd dit niet langer dan een paar minuten uit. Een goede acteur niet te vinden geweest?

Leading experts at the Rijksmuseum? Impossible! This is full of misinformation about Rembrandt's process. (It is enough to see the cheap sagging canvas to know this is not serious--what's more, he never used cotton, only linen). He famously used a quartz ground (his workshop was the only one) & his imprimatura was opaque. I only made it to minute 7:30 but there is no point going on, this is just nonsense
