A wonderful interview
lovely to see you here brother paul
We'd love to get you on here as well :) We've emailed you
Just have so much love for Paul. May God bless him.
Please have him back on Blogging Theology as well, brother Paul!
I think your comment made me watch this video ..... definitely a good interview
I agree with Abdal Hakim Murad. I have lived in Thailand, Brazil, Dominican Republic and Peru (all poor countries) and I found for myself that the people in these countries were on average much kinder and more generous than in my own wealthy country (Britain). I have come to dislike the company of the rich and the well educated (with few exceptions) because they tend to have harder hearts and more arrogance than the poor and less well educated.
@@jellyfishi_ Of course. Every generalisation admits of exceptions.
The sense of entitlement is hard to rid oneself of. It is only when one is rid of it than one becomes in touch with Reality.
Agreed, people don't laugh in UK. but I also lived 4 years in Jersey, Channel Islands and I found people over there are much reasonable and happy
I love how humorous shaykh Murad was in this. It’s always a treat to listen to him speak, حفظه الله
He drops these subtle zingers in his speeches all the time that just crack me up. It was fun to watch him make the interviewer laugh out loud here. He is such a heavyweight scholar, you never see them coming. :)
@@shyman3000 love him
What a snob! This Murad 🤢
“Flog themselves”😂😂😂😂😅
I'm not Muslim but I found this interview fascinating and I would want to invest in Muslim investments with these ethics.
Wisdom come from whom Allah chose s to... May Allah give Sheik Murad long life good health to provide his knowledge and wisdom to other brothers and sisters.
15 years ago, a TV programme was announcing one would be able to grow olives in the region of Strasbourg in France. I'm still waiting.
Amazing to see such a scholar like Sheikh Abdul Hakeem Murad on your channel. In fact I will be heading to Cambridge Central masjid this Friday for iftar and taraweeh. Alhamdullilah
He's an amazing scholar!
Wow such a great exchange! God bless you both
Thank you so much!
Thank you for introducing me to this gem of a human being, a lighthouse of hope and enlightenment in a roaring sea… jazakum Allah khayran
Nice imagery
Thanks for the interview. The climate issue is very serious.
What an interview! Subhanallah. Mesmerised by the facts and common sense answers. I am going to watch it a few times with pen and paper in my hand.
I m just done with that. 10 pages notes. alhamdulillah
Yes, I as well
Amazing wisdom. How enlightening to hear the great shaikh.!!
I'm a simple man, I see our lovely brother and Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad, I click. May The Most High help us attain his love, nearness, and attain fulfillment in our dunyah, death, and akhirah. Jzk to all here and all involved.
Interesting interview touching on the challenges of modernity and the the Muslim mindset.
I could listen to him for hours.
He is a great scholar! With deep understanding and deep clarity and insight!
Excellent interview, good questions.
Very valuable conversation indeed
We are so blessed to have Sheikh Murad amongst us today. Thank you Allah SWT for such generosity.
I'm shocked about the sheikh's views on renewables.
He has no idea. These are not renewables. They are first and foremost unreliables.
Fossil fuels are needed and in greater quantities. That's the reality.
Solar and wind energy is a dead-end. Too expensive, and very poor in terms of yield.
Had no idea you knew shaykh Abdul hakim Murad. Love that guy
The modern obsession of accumulating things. Wasting our precious time on stuffs that only provide temporary joy.
Subhanallah, the collab we never knew we needed.

Can you provide the translation for the things Ibrahim is saying in Arabic? I have no clue what he's saying when he drops these hadith or verses of Quran
Great video Ibraheem! Fascinating insights! Could you make a video on the Saudi Arabia vision 2030 and whether or not you think it will succeed. Im especially interested in your opinion about the various megaprojects they are building such as NEOM.
Cool!

Some constructive criticism. Please practice your questions before asking. The questions took an age and were incoherent at some points.
Should have got more out of such a great thinker of our times. I believe the interviewer was trying to ask if Muslims should take a lead in innovation, technology and finance in order to lead the way rather than taking a passive herd following approach.
Bottom line is, Shaykh leans towards the akhira an not dunya.
Ha - it would be fair criticism only there's one complication: the man opposite is a genius. So we were off the agenda by question 2 and operating on a philosophical plane that required me to have an early night that day. 😅
@@IFGuru no offense to the interviewer. His previous interviews were really good.
Your content is always helpful and insightful to us that live in the West.
You saw every idea that Imam Ibrahim posited to the Shaykh was not met well. Unlike his other guests who pretty much agree and nod to the money nonsense that is posited.
I like the use of "posited".
@@IFGuru alhumdillahh JaskakAllah for your response, the word is meant intransitively in the sense that from your linkedIn and RUclips channel one gets this simple premise: "money and wealth" is the driving force to "enrich" muslims. us mulsims who already are struggling with the Deen and the modern society do not need to know how to become more wealthy. And this "wealth" has unfortunately seeped in to imams now and when you challenged shakh by mentioning Abu hanifa and imam Malik may Allah be pleased with them, you were caught out by your lack of understanding of the times. This is not an attack, I appreciate your response but this money disease that everyone seems that inspired by is a real issue amongst Muslims in the west. And finally you brought someone on that challenged you instead of nodding and have a pleasant time discussing these issues because who doesn't love wealth right ?
We're an open house. Who else do you think we should interview?
Thats the difference when you asked an alim.
Shaykh Abdal Hakim is a river of knowledge. May Allah give him long and healthy life and reward him with a reward like no other. Aamiin. May He benefit us by his knowledge. Aamiin.
Jordan Peterson and Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad should have a dialogue in Cambridge. Their combined insights would be greatly appreciated by many, similar to the impact of the Hamza Yusuf interview. Discussing the "religion of nature" (dīn al-fiṭrah) with Jordan, especially in relation to our inherent nature and understanding of evolutionary history and archetypes, would be enlightening. They can explore the balance of psychology, spirituality, and philosophy. The points made by Shaykh Murad on 'The Nature of Nature' delving into the philosophical and psychological implications of human understanding of the self from an islamic point of view would resonate with and potentially complement Jordan's expertise, bridging any gaps in his islamic understanding of Fitra and Submission.
The quintessential British humour 😊
Assalamu Alaikum
Brilliant. It covered a wide range with Very erudite view as always. In Bangladesh the poor ppl got into the net of micro credit riba( although they are poor & unaware but good Muslims)
Whereas the affluent or educated ones are fearful About riba & atleadt wont put money unless its sharia based

From Bangladesh.
By the way Moderator kids from Dhaka are Amazingly brilliant. So they are DOING fine in melting pot!!
There’s a lot to learn from this discussion, and a useful reminder of what’s actually needed to attain a happier life. Thanks
Such a rich interview - Jazakallah
Islamic teachings emphasize balance, ethical progress, and stewardship of the earth. The Quran advocates for sustainable development and warns against corruption and wastefulness. In finance, Islam prohibits usury and promotes fairness and transparency. Regarding technological advancements like the Metaverse, Islam encourages knowledge but stresses ethical use and maintaining human dignity, ensuring that digital progress aligns with real-life responsibilities and moral principles.
Ill answer the maximization question bro.
In capitalism the driving principle is to maximize profits for the shareholders (stakeholders) at any cost.
In Islamic economy the driving principle is to maximize benifit for the citizens.
For example in an islamic system if govt decided on a project they would take survey and offer companies to propose. Once all the proposals and bids come in the community would choose that project which would most benifit the most number of citizens.
Thanks for these interviews.. I've enjoyed every single one.
Love the moving sofa at around 3:19
Lol hadn't noticed this myself 😂

What a great interview, I wish it was longer. Thank you both!
The muslim ummah nowdays have few scholars like Sheikh Murad. Just how many scholars do we know now are so well educated, so articulate and has rich knowledge like him?
You ask a youngster what Fikh is they will ask you if its some kind of clothing brand?
What I see now is that muslims worldwide, or the majority of them don't dive deep about Islam is all about? About the many facets that Islam governs? More so in Islamic Finance and the dangers of riba!
Mufti taqi usmani is a great scholar with Islamic finance knowledge
@@tazboy1934 Thank you brother for the update
@@hishamosman4341 the problem is language like me in indonesia. How many syekh in here do you think?
Mashaallah Ibrahim is making some great videos.
Amazing by the sheikh everything was very well said.
However, disagree on the point of creating a new Muslim identity in the west, without the connection back home, Muslims will disintegrate within modern western culture. Also, we have a responsibility to keep the Muslims connected to the Muslim world that needs us spiritually and financially.
The Muslim world will always be the centre of the rise of a new Islamic civilisation, European Muslims will be followers to the ancient scholars and the wealth of knowledge in the Muslim world, not the other way round.
Moreover, the abandonment of your native tongue is not a good decision if you’re planning on maintaining a traditional Islam. We need people that will read classical text and be able to bridge that gap with the Muslim world and not limit themselves to western thinkers or orientalists.
None Muslims have been embracing Islam and falling for the culture of the Muslim world, not the other way round.
The western world will not consider Islam as a serious contender unless they see countries in the Muslim world developing and producing better models based on Islam.
Islam will never be included in western governance and the curve is currently dipping in favour of anti Islam sentiment, more rise in right wing and extreme left groups will keep alienating religions even further, not least the most practiced of them.
We must maintain our heritage and culture in the western world. Nothing wrong with a person adapting themselves when with their family and community and when they’re at work, that does not mean giving up on your Muslim identity, in fact it’s the opposite, if anything, your culture and values will help you in maintaining your religious morals and values. All the evidence suggests that Muslims that live in detached communities are less traditional, more open to liberal ideas and don’t have a true sense of belonging, and feel marginalised and secluded, all you have to do is look at scattered Muslim communities of the USA.
Who will feel and remember the struggles of the Palestinians? Kashmiris? Uyghurs? Yemenis? And any plight that hits the centre of the Muslim world. The shaikh himself goes to the Muslim world to feel Islam and live Islam, he also mentioned how the western world is so depressed. Helping to establish the Muslim world is much easier than imagining you can change legislation to suit an Islamic narrative in a morally corrupt western society.
Jazakallah Khair, again fantastic interview mashallah

IFG did a great job in interviewing the shayekh, imo. I love the man for his brilliant talks and he just oozes a different class, but it is important to note that even deep philosophical or spiritual knowledge has to be translated into practicalities. Which is why both sufis and businessmen have their places in Islam and you cannot be sufficient with just the sufi anymore than you'd be with just the businessman. I think this is the first interview I've seen where shayekh Murad didn't have the necessary answer, and that in a sense is a credit to him and to Islam imo
Excellent point @fahim
Phenomenal observation, thank you for sharing!
Historically, Sufism was not isolated from the realities of the practical life. It always was integrated with personal and professional world, and elevated both to a higher ethical and behavioral standard.
Sufi tariqas and lodges have often been associated with certain professions.
The accusation that authentic sufism is detached from practical realities of life is unfair and historically inaccurate.
@@mash0000 didn't make any such accusation.
Brother fahim.
We need only Sufis who renounce the Dunya in their hearts. This is the goal of our religion.
But in agreement to the spirit of your comment, some Sufis are encouraged to seek the Dunya to help others if they have the capacity/acumen to do so while striving to keep the Dunya away from their hearts. Others who are not suited are limited to what is obligated. Yes we need both, if that what was meant in your first comment.
Many saints and friends of Allah were rich, but their wealth was truly primarily to help others and the Ummah. They said O Allah make the Dunya in our hands (so it could be an instrument to do good) not in our hearts (so we don't get attached to it).
What a blessing to have Sheikh Abdul Hakim in our lifetime. May Allah preserve you sheikh.
Assalamu Alaikum and Ramadan Mubarak. First time watching your interview. I am a regular listener of Shaykh s lectures. Overall, well thought-out, probing, and relevant questions.
Potential for improvement: there is room for improvement in phrasing the question without convoluting it.
Will subscribe to your channel.
Very Interesting and Stimulating conversation mA. Ibrahim kept trying to press the Shaik on the validity of wealth seeking for Muslims but shaik seemed to keep putting it off as a not so noble pursuit. I still wonder though if Muslims take the backseat on wealth creation wouldn't we be always the people of the lower hand rather than the upper hand.
It would be good to summarise some of the key takeaways from this chat.
The very first of shaykh's Contentions reads "Activism will only succeed when it remembers that history is in Good Hands."
Haroon, you are making a very important point. I wish there was a hour long substantive panel discussion just on this point probing it from various angles. There is a statement attributed to Ali(RA) on this (I am paraphrasing) : "as long as wealth is in your hand, and not in your heart, it is ok"
However, the discussion needs to delve into the tangible realities of today's world, including how much time one should spend daily towards acquiring wealth, to what extent and for what purpose we can depend on the credit mechanism of modern banking system, etc.
But wealth is dependent on the heart, not money and assets.
My Question is that Earning of Call Center Industry that works for American Final Expense Life Insurance Company as a Third Party in Pakistan is Halal or Haram?
We need a part 2!
Michael Jackson was not inconsequential for many people, he lived with great pain in his life and produced art out of it. Can Sheikh Hakim Murad dance like Michael Jackson ? MJ's dance is art for many people. The Sheikh has chosen an unfortunate example in MJ to make his point.
Can someone please give the Sheikh a hot drink to sip in his interviews ??
I think there was a jinn in the room. Did you guys see the chair move.
It's a jinn transform into chair maybe😂
Alhamdulillah this was great interview. I disagree with the culture aspect. I think it's a trend with middle class Muslims who assimilate that more often than not they lose themselves and are more Liberal and secular than anything else.
Language is not just language but shapes our way of thinking, in pakistani languages simple things like how you call your elders has a element of reverence and respect attached to it. You see family bonds and parent respect lost more in the gen who are more British. I think another undeniable aspect is modesty, sadly look at a lot of third gen sisters and brothers they have very little concept of modesty because they have very little of their parents culture and are fully adapted to British culture. That's why they struggle with hijab because that socialisation through culture doesn't happen and they have no sense of hayah or shame. That's because the west long ago did away with that. Not saying everything is bad and we can learn and meet half way, but I think lots of important aspects of culture should be preserved especially language which connects to a larger part of the ummah outside of just britian
The best sheikh of our times
We are so lucky to have this Man ! God bless him and thank you for bringing him on 💕
Thank you Shiekh Murad. ❤
A bit surprised that although Zakat was mentioned very briefly, the importance of using wealth to help aid so many millions of Muslims living in poverty. Mothers who see their children crying with hunger daily. The importance for vastly wealthy going behind just Zakat. Instead poverty was talked of as a kind of ascetic ideal😮
Alhamdulillah that i have been guided out of a long career in pharma and into non profit environmental justice despite a huge title and pay cut. This is not by accident and money no longer serves humanity.
The world is designed for progress.... there are negative impact but that should not be a hindrance to the development and fulfillment of God Khalifa on earth...
Please do not tell impoverished Umma in Africa and South Asia that a materially rich life is an unhappy life. The whole argument is like false Christian sayings i.e. “The meek shall inherit the earth” (from Mathew 5:5) and “It is easier for camel to pass through eye of needle than a rich man to enter Kingdom of God” (Luke 18:25) which falsely glorify poverty, social injustices and dis-empowerment. Be mindful that Strong family ties, in same geographies, often comprise of extreme patriarchy, nepotism and “Family Honour” interfering with decision making (i.e. about career and partner) that leads to simmering life-long unhappiness.
Sitting in Cambridge or west, where millions of Muslims migrated and made it good, now telling us it is not worth, sounds shallow and hypocritical. Denouncing Secularism, Democracy and Liberalism, the very things that helped Islam take root in west, and harking back to Khilafat, Islamic Banking, and Sharia penal codes is not the recipe for wellness. Islam needs reforms as much (if not more) as West; particularly those aimed at curtailing intolerance, ignorance of STEM subjects, militant Jihadism, and this "otherness" about other faiths and most critically empowerment of women.
And Mr. Murad is wrong in saying that Income levels have no correlation with Happiness; just check the rankings of nations in World Happiness Report and Human Development Index (which correlated to per head GDP; very strongly so in poor HDI countries). If rich men are having counselling sessions it is mostly because they can afford one.
great camera work. 10/10 framing.
indeed, great audio too
One of my favourite
Jzk khyr!
very intersting question asked,barakallah
I wish you spoke of the other extreme,
Where low-income & middle-income people don't save anything at all.
They live pay cheque to pay cheque.
Should they be encouraged to develope a habit of saving and investing?
Please do not tell impoverished Umma in Africa and Siuth Asia that a materially rich life is not ahappy life and that strong family ties (in South Asian context that means extreme patriarchy and imposing Honor of family into decision mmaking about career and partner leading to simmering unhappiness). Sitting in Cambrifge or west where millions of Muslms migrated and made it good, some of them telling us it is not worth sounds shallow and akin to "Munafiqat".
Mashallah. Enjoyed Sheikh. ❤
Hagiographic stories of phenomenal generosity in the culture are probably only meant as examples, with exaggeration stressing the point.
The middle class today has better lifestyle than pharo
Reading the description of the video about 'Who we are' and what Shaykh Hakim Murad has been saying.... there obviously is a huge disconnect. While IFG tries to empower muslims to be better off with physical wealth, the answer given by the Shaykh is that wealth in essence is the state of the heart, not physical cash or assets.
Looks like its time for IFG to go back to the drawing board 🤭😁 The sufis have the answer all along.
Ha - there's actually an elegant synthesis here. Wealth is a means to and end not an end itself.
@@IFGuru The synthesis you're alluding to can be summarised by the master sufi himself - "If I had all the wealth in the world, I'd spend it all on feeding the poor." - 'Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani
World is changing with times for both people who want better future also worst
This was the best content fro IFG. Please could I have a part two with sheikh
And so should be Muslims and others seeking wealth from its corrupt financial systems. Everything belongs to God, seek wealth from Him alone... yughnihimu Allahu min fadlihi... [Quran chp 24 ver 32]... waatuhum min mali Allahi... [Quran chp 24 ver 33].
Yes but we need to work to get the money

A piece of advice, your content is important dont make it click bait style thumbnails and you shouldn’t try to be doing the latest trend of attention grabbing useless behavior. Understand that God will distribute the work to the right ppl. Be serious. However, love the content keep interviewing amazing minds. Thank you
There are no bankers or muslims that can place their right palm on the KJV and say these words once only in a calm coherent manner-> I refuse to be full of demons.😓

I would have preferred a more optimistic outlook. There are many people who are positively influencing the world and are making great progress in curbing harmful technologies and helping to improve the environment. There are also quite a lot of scientists who don't believe that global warming is caused by men but rather cyclical. I would've preferred if Mr. Murad went a bit more into the positives and spoke about a lot of people actually wanting to go back to traditions and seeking connection with nature and mankind. A lot of the doom and gloom by western politicians, public figures, and globalists is meant to keep people in a state of angst and separation. Only Allah knows best.
Shaykh Abdak Hakim and Shaykh Hamza Yusuf are a God send, May Allah give them long life, Jannah. They never back bite and call people out (who derived to be)
My Question is that Earning of Call Center Industry that works for American Final Expense Life Insurance Company as a Third Party in Pakistan is Halal or Haram?
with people like sheikh abdul hakim murad islam will be safe and inshallah will thrive in the west, we have so much to offer our fellow citizens, our path to our Creator is so straight and dignified, all the dawah boys would learn a lot from the esteemed sheikh and his wisdom and approach to islam, may Allah grant him much blessings and success
What if Allah has kept someone lonely???
My Question is that Earning of Call Center Industry that works for American Final Expense Life Insurance Company as a Third Party in Pakistan is Halal or Haram?
Beside the unnecessary bashing of Michael Jackson as a negative example, when many much worst examples could have been found, and the apparently total trust in the "climate catastrophe" theory, it was a very interesting conversation.
This interview captivated me with its wealth of knowledge and informative content. I want to express my gratitude to you brother, for delivering such a captivating interview.
There are so many one liner gems in this. My fav. is beauty is dangerous because beauty is truth and therefore it makes people uncomfortable. Another one line: money can buy you ease, but not happiness.
One of the best interviews on IFG. Would really appreciate a second episode
Alhamdulillah wonderful to listen to
Great interview bro, Masha Allah. Personally, I consider that you should amend the title to include his lengthy discussion regarding British identity. I found this discussion to be very important.

Great to see.
Such a lesson in change management and alternative proposals! Its fair to say that whoever holds onto the Quran words of the Eternal will not be bound by the fluctuations of time. And we should always see those fluctuations as a good opportunity to strive and do good. Allah is the greatest.
