Fun fact about denmark's trees: We cut all of them down a long time ago for two reasons. 1: Wood for building ships and 2: farming area. When the british destroyed the danish navy, they had no wood to rebuild their ships, all the trees had been cut down. So, they planted a whole bunch of trees so that they could rebuild their navy when they grew big. When the trees were finally mature enough to build ships, we no longer built them from wood. The people responsible for the planting and maintaining of the trees wrote a letter to the navy notifying them that their trees were ready anyway.

In 1801 during the battle of Copenhagen, Britain took the entire Danish navy after Denmark's defeat. What I love about the ding-dong-ditch map is that, given that it's been illegal to do so in Britain since 1839, it was originally the same for Ireland, due to Britain controlling us at the time. So the fact that it's currently legal in Ireland to do so, means that after we won our independence, there either must have been a Dáil vote to repeal it, or the courts must have struck it down. And while it probably was done amongst a whole other bunch of old and obscure laws being repealed, I just love the idea of the likes of Éamonn De Valera debating over the idea of a law like this.
Sorry - no such romance. It was a Metropolitan Police Act - essentially London bye-laws for anywhere covered by the Metropolitan police. London used to be made up from a hotch-potch of different local/county authorities so it made sense to have a degree of uniformity across the unitary policing authority - since it would be impractical to coordinate all those authorities to have identical bye-laws they just ran it through parliament instead. I could see how 'knock-a-door run' could be illegal anywhere in the UK/Ireland even if it's not specified - it would constitute a statutory nuisance (but obviously would not be prosecuted because the law does not deal in trifles).

For that tree thing atleast here in finland its probably taken from what the foresters/lumberjacks give as the density You take this piece of plastic that has a certain sized hole in it with a certain sized handle (usually 60cm) and take a random area to count all the trees that fill the hole when you look through it while standing in one place You take a few of those and you get a pretty close density of trees per 100m² and put that on some sorta website (woodforce in my case) I cant belive i wrote this out here but hey if someones intrested even a tiny bit 3 years studying forestry ans forest machine operating wasnt complete waste Tldr: lumberjacks or whatever u call em measure the trees in an area to ger the number of trees

Kazakhstan doesn't just have 2000 Trees and Slovenia doesn't have more trees than France or Germany 😂
9:53 mcu is actually doing that kinda, in moon knight they introduced 3 egyptian gods; khonshu, taweret, ammit, and in thor love and thunder they are introducing some greek gods like zeus

Previously you would count/estimate number of trees per area unit and calculate it trough area of forest. You would get rough number depending on class/type of forest.
Today they use satelites and program to recognize tree.
Previously it depended on person who counted them per area, today it depends on what can program recognize as tree
Drew: *Searches the definition of a tree*
Me: You clearly didn't see the MinuteEarth video about trees not having one definition
0:56 why isn't Russia on that list? We definitely provided some food in tanks that we gave to those farmers and some troops even provided meds
True
I can see that you feel kinda embarrassed at how Russia is doing in this war , but don't worry man , we count y'all too
Russia did send a tank to Ukraine so your right
Late to the party I guess but yeah despite living in the UK all my life didn't know the fact about it being illegal to knock a door and run away... There's also a ton of different names for that game depending on where you're from in the country which I found out at uni. I've heard it called knock-a-door run, knock down ginger, ding dong dash and knockie nine doors
Drew:
*Also what defines a tree*
*How big does it have to be*
*What if it’s like a baby tree*

Transnistria in Moldova is owned by the Russians that is why they are so far east.
4:38 The reason why Denmark and the Netherlands have no trees was due to the fact that from the Viking age and toward the very end of they 18th century, Denmark and the Netherlands were the top builders of ships in all of Europe. Yes they made even more ships than France and England as well. Both countries are very much countries with deep naval histories.
In 1801 during the battle of Copenhagen, Britain took the entire Danish navy after Denmark's defeat. And to make up for it, they planted a handful of oak trees, (no more than 50) most of which never grew and instead withered due to the soil the British chose to plant them on.
Its trees per km^2
I have lived in the Netherlands and I am pretty sure I saw some trees 😤
@@donteattidepods I am Dutch and I can confirm that we have a lot of trees 😂
@@timwillems6480 Yeah, I didn't say "literally no trees"
Relatively speaking, the Netherlands and Denmark doesn't have many trees and instead have a lot of farmland.
But that farmland once used to be huge forests that were eventually used to build ships with.
Ah Britain.
Thank you for telling me Russia might invade Sweden. Now I’ll have nightmares :)
The dots near Moldova would be in transnistria (hope i wrote it right) which is a breakaway part of Moldova that "wants" to become part of Russia, and in which there are indeed Russian troops stationed. To my knowledge the troops stationed here are yet to take part in the conflict in a significant matter
Yes i think theyre there to waiting to a chance because transnistria wants to be russia

Thats my Dinner conversation sorted out Thanks.... 'Do you know what a tree is?'
4:06 not the AMOUNT of trees in total in a country: but the amount of trees PER KM^2 per country
For the tree stuff, we actually have lidar satellite images that allow GIS software to count trees by the millions. Its really cool stuff. You can also make the software count hay bales, cows, cars whatever its cool stuff
3:59 And that's why I don't like the Electoral College and the American vote system. It makes everything so unfair.
Actually thats what its supposed to do the senate was made so that someone in Wyoming or Alaska can't do anything when California and New York agree of something
Hotter and wetter climates have more trees than colder and/or dryer climates. Kazakhstan is too dry, Norway is too cold
1:05 Humanitarian aid goes to the civilians, not the military
4:52 wtf they say Georgia isnt in Europe? AND KAZAKHSTAN IS?!?!?!??!
For the Alaska house map those places that are red are pretty much the only places where just about everyone lives. All the rest it's just about all federal or state lands and nobody lives there
10:55- So the UK made knocking on doors and running away illegal before banning child labor?
6:46 Hey I am not part of this 18%, besides that I am included in other points mentioned .
BTW if you wondering why car is so low then in India here we see Cars as "if you have excess money then only buy", many Indians rely on public transports(bus, train, metro etc) or auto rickshaws. Bikes(Motorcycle) in India starts at very affordable price that's why people tend to go with two wheeler as compared to that of 4 wheeler. Since one should have atleast 1 public vehicle. This is very common mentality here not sure if its prevalent in other places too
Salam sahab
Is not at all the mentality we have here in the UK. Over 77% of households have a car apparently that comes out to about 81% of the population having access to a car.
Slovenia has so many trees because the country and its people like nature and cares about, maybe more than else where. more than half of the territory is occupied by forests, actually about 60%. People in Slovenia are very proud of their forest and the wild life it hosts. In many domains , this tiny country could teach bigger one a lesson, but no one listen.

Kazakhstan only has 2000 trees?
Drew I really can’t wrap my head around HOW you claim to be a map enthusiast yet REPEATEDLY fail to notice (or perhaps even understand?) the concept of ‘per capita’. It literally states it for you in the legend. Totally blows my mind that you think there are less that 10k trees in Kazakhstan. You do this often by the way, it’s honestly shocking, really hope you’re trolling.

5:15 I think the majority of buildings are made of non-wood material, or only using a minority amount of wood.
Well, at least in developed countries.
Actually the US is the exception to that because of the vast forests existing here since colonization, most private residences are built of wood but commercial buildings are built with other materials like concrete and/or metal. And home ownership in the US is more prevalent then elsewhere as its cultural: successful = home ownership (it's actually called "The American Dream")
Kazakhstan is included because a part of it is also in Europe.
Montenegro on the list exists. Drew be like: I'm gonna pretend i didn't see that

About the tree thing, one of my Uncles used to count them for a living. Apparently it involved a lot of math.
Yes at the 3:30 second mark, this is why US Senate was designed to represent the State not the people. That is why befor the 17th amendment you had blocks of states working together on common issues. Now the Senate is just another house of representatives. Still does not make sense to me.

4:40 Most of the landscape in the Netherlands is covered by grass plains and polders. But on the Veluwe (the area where I live) is a forest.
Although not a big fan, I'm living 3 km away from it. It's one of the few places in the Netherlands where there are a couple of hills and proper forests.

@@pd4165 Used to do this as a kid, we got bored and liked winding oldies (over 16 or so) up. Didn't used to be illegal but then getting a bucket of water chucked over you from an upstairs window wasn't back then. Part of learning.

MCU for Mythology: You are thinking of the books of Rick Riordan
For that tree thing atleast here in finland its probably taken from what the foresters/lumberjacks give as the density
You take this piece of plastic that has a certain sized hole in it with a certain sized handle (usually 60cm) and take a random area to count all the trees that fill the hole when you look through it while standing in one place
You take a few of those and you get a pretty close density of trees per 100m² and put that on some sorta website (woodforce in my case)
I cant belive i wrote this out here but hey if someones intrested even a tiny bit 3 years studying forestry ans forest machine operating wasnt complete waste
Tldr: lumberjacks or whatever u call em measure the trees in an area to ger the number of trees
