The local zoo when I was a kid didn't "have" peafowl, they just sorta...showed up one day, 4 of them, affectionally called "Lenny and Jenny" and "Mary and Mike". Well, Lenny, Jenny, Mary and Mike quickly got to work and within like 2 years, there were over 50 free-roaming, basically wild peafowl in and around the zoo.
I did a central island with a botanical garden in the center, so I put flamingos and peafowls there and it is so stunning. Now I'm thinking in to put swans too
You can have both, the natural barrier and high habitat welfare: place the elefant grass just outside the null-barrier. The plants then won't count as part of the habitat but the animals still can't escape. It takes some time to place the grass correctly but it works. 😊

I once tried surrounding the whole zoo with null barriers, but the habitats inside it got all buggy, the animals were marked as escaped, deasigned from their habitats, teleported out, the keepers wouldn't feed them, it was a hell of a mess. There's been around 5-6 updates since I last played, I hope it's been fixed.
Wow. You really had the right idea in the right time. I wanted to make a swan habitat, but to uncreative to fill every border out. So i will use the trick instead. Than it looks like a little sea with freeliving swan.
This idea is knowing in the community over years 😊. But youre right, with the new swans it makes more and more sense, so thanks for leaf for the remember ❤

You don’t have to put plants under the nule barriers just turn off escapes in sandbox and when they escape they get boxed back to the staff entrance and. They 90% of the time never get close to the nule barriers

I always missed this in planet zoo. Every zoo I know has free roaming birds

I have GOT to upload my Ubuntu African zoo to the Steam workshop. I did a whole zoo using elephant grass as barriers for almost all my habitats!😄
Never realised that you don't have to put down guest gates if you use the null barrier!

An easier way is to just turn off animal escapes, the animals wont cross the bull barrier then. Only works in sandbox tho
