    I cannot express how great it is to see you continue to make painting guides. You taught me so much when it came to painting death guard as someone brand new to the hobby in June 2021. I always loved your presentation style, and it’s been great watching the weekly painting phase podcast as well. Much love from a deathguard enjoyer, and I’m currently painting up behemoth style tyranids.

    I love these videos, and the Ravenwing guide is excellent for all manner of black armour, be it Death Company, Black Templars, Deathwatch, etc.
    One tip for you though, I've learnt from Byron at Artis Opus that when you're dry brushing you shouldn't use tissue paper to rub off the excess as it sucks the moisture out of the paint and you lose a lot of the pigment. If you use cardboard instead (or ideally a texture pad), you brush off the medium but retain the pigment and your dry brushing won't look chalky.

    OMG, Peachy your are a godsend! I just started up doing Dark Angels and I was having all kinds of issues trying to deal with both Dark Angels Green (Contrast) and Caliban Green (Base) from GW: either too much water or not enough, plus I usually just use Contrast paints so I don't need to apply more than on coat. But your "just heavy-dry brush it on" technique worked perfectly on the first try and I could not be happier with the results!

    I used "Bloody Land" basing paste by AK for all Derp Angels chapters, because the Martian+ colour gives a nice contrast to all colour schemes. Just put it on, numb it down a bit with either Nuln Oil or a mix of Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade, then stiple the uppermost parts with some more paste for extra vibrancy. Tufts in Fluo green, black, brown or even dark purple are a perfect addition to that. Works great, looks even greater.

    Counterpoint - mid-tone base all you want but I'm here to stand up for Red Planet BASE! 🔴 on Dark Angels. Martian earth or whatever it works so well on all 3 wings - makes the Deathwing standout, nice contrast for Ravewning [like any boys bedroom from the 80's] and is the opposite for the Greenwing! And, if you use the same sort of red on the base as you do on all your red bits it ties it all in together! For instance, all my Deathwing's Crux Terminatus are the same red stone as the bases from their red plaent founding world of Ferron Proxima, none of this grey stone mullarky for them!

  • @billthemarine4435

    The way you painted the green wings on the chest of the Deathwing Terminator was great! I am not messing with picking out each raised surface on the next batch of 10 that I am painting.
    I did a basing scheme using cork board that I dry brushed and painted to look like concrete. It definitely works well across all the color schemes of the Dark Angels.

    Awesome tutorial that I'm definitely going to be using! Far too many unpainted marines that I've been hunting for a quick, easy, and effective way to paint their armour black without incessant edge highlighting with an extra 2-3 different colours, which while it might be great for characters, is just too laborious for rank and file tactical squads. I only have one question; was there a particular reason for choosing a pair of more 'grey' greys (I assume Citadel equivalents to those used are Stormvermin Fur and Dawnstone?) over a pair of 'blue' greys (e.g. Citadel Dark Reaper and Thunderhawk Blue)? Hope that makes sense. I wasn't sure if it was just personal preference, to do with them being Ravenwing, or another reason entirely - would be great to hear your thoughts! Cheers in advance & please keep up the excellent tutorials & chat videos :)

    • @thepaintingphase
      @thepaintingphase  Год назад +2

      So the closest to Pale Sand is screaming skull, and for larger minis like dreds and tanks, I’d be tempted to undercoat those models with wraithbone and just apply some sepia into the recesses, and then give them a drybrush of screaming skull, and having your tanks look different to the troops is actually better, as I’ve never seen a vehicle 100% match the i fiord of a soldier in the real world so that concept would still be applicable to 40k.

      Closest straight from the pot is probably gonna be screaming skull, but for a more accurate tone you’ll need more white in it, so mix in some white scar if you can

    A not-loaded-question but is there any reason you are using AK Interactive paints? Dropper bottles, sponsor, easy to get, always secretly loved them but the evil mega corporation chain you to pots?
    I’ve always found anything except gw paints hard to get a hold of consistently and easily where I live, except online.

      I guess a bit of everything, wanted to try something new, fell in love with them, they’ve sent me some extra supplies and a potential sponsorship, even if I just keep with mostly AK I’ll always try to suggest a GW alternative 👍

    I heard Peachy had to leave GW because he painted the Lion in Space Wolf Grey

    That termi looks great, is it a "classic" model, or do GW still sell models that look that good?

      It’s still the current deathwing plastic boxset

      @@thepaintingphase Well, I'm obviously not paying attention... 😆
      BTW, did you know there's an army painter speed paint called "Peachy Flesh"?

    isn't "reverse highlight" just "glazing" hoping to recreate the slapchop buzz?

    • @thepaintingphase
      @thepaintingphase  Год назад

      Well no and no, glazing is an all over method to knock back highlights or lesson the contrast between the recesses and the mid to high areas, and slap chopping is applying a contrast paint all over a black mini usually dry brushed with white.
      the reverse highlight method doesn’t go to the edge…..as the name suggests.
      Hope that clears that up, happy painting 👍
