Gta 4 trio was just built different. I mean Niko became the most famous hitman in liberty city since he arrived in town, Johnny entered a prison with only two other bikers and teared everything apart killing guards and noose special forces just to kill one man who was being a snitch and Luis was able to steal a wagon of the Liberty city subway single handling the whole LCPD antiterrorism task force. Gta 5 trio did some cool and over the top heists but that's about it, nothing as badass as the things I just mentioned. At least imo...
Niko is one of the strongest protagonists in the GTA universe

Psi - niko bellic army veteran, process things faster, got out of the betrayal of dimitri by his reaction time, besides michael isnt a fast processer we saw how he was still processing trevor finding out about his betrayal (1-0)

"Niko got manipulated by dimitri into killing Mikhail" mikhail was unstable and dangerous he had no choice BUT TO kill him. And he never got manipulated fully by dimitri, dimitri simply had more advantages to befriend him
