What’s really crazy is that the SR 71 is 60 years old and still an impressive machine!
Cool video but, were su27s around when the SR-71 was in service? And I thought sr71s were decommissioned and relegated to "on display" only. Sr71 would have gotten ghost long before any threat got close enough to even smell it's vapor trail.
Much less being designed without the benefits of computer design.
My grandmother's 91 and she rocks!
@@erikalexander414 not all of them
As mentioned above the sr-71 has not been in use for decades. I saw one in the Evergreen aviation museum in Oregon. It made it from Ca to the east coast in 14minutes!!!!! So not way some regular fighter jet can keep up.
No. As a US Air Force aviation meteorologist, I conducted MANY DD Form 175-1 Flight Weather Briefings to SR-71 aircrew. Part of that were winds and flight hazards at altitude. They ROUTINELY flew at FL850...and ain't no plane going to get anywhere near them.

Agree, 100%
Unless it was just before or after refueling. But realistically, those operations would take place over friendly territory.
@@GrantOakes - Any plane penetrating Russian airspace has very long legs. The could easily be topped off within site of northern Alaska or Canada.
And who was filming that?!!
@@donkloos9078 perhaps someone in a B2
SR71 would never let them get that close in the first place
Correct. The SR-71 is unarmed. It would never fly visual sub-sonic with hostiles.
Not sure what to make of it, but that's pretty much what a 71 can do. As for who is really flying those 27's? I don't think they were real hostiles. It's a show-off video, probably meant as propaganda directed at Russian intelligence. Nothing like telling the truth about our equipment vs their fighters. "Catch me if you can!"
Of course this is a hoax. Who's the camera man filming this?
@@chaosopher23 the counter to the SR-71 is the Mig-25 Foxbat. Can it do the job? Who knows? The US never let the SR-71 anywhere near a Mig-25.

Retried in 1999. No way modern Russian fighter has even seen one, much less keep up.
Su-27 was first flown in 1984. The SR-71 Blackbird's last flight was 1999.
@@iceman_fox1 they were built to combat the SR-71. Yet nobody knew how fast or how high the SR-71 could fly. The Russians lost before they started.

@@Stein871 because SR-71 flew combat mission over Vietnam?
I might be wrong but they were Recon/Photo takers? No SR-71 was lost from enemy attempts. Name another plane that can say that?
@@Stein871 may I ask what advanced aircraft has your country produced?
That never happened, no way they would get that close, the sr-71 would just kick in the juice and say by by.

Must be AI. Three Russian jets in the air ….. at the same time? 😳
Four. You have to count in the guy that is filming.
Picture quality is also pretty good for the Cold War period?
Russia has plenty of fighter jets. I live next to an airforce base near Moscow, they fly over our heads all the time and there are loads of them.
Must have been pretty excited to see an SR-71 since they put up their whole inventory.
@@dhyde9207 yeah, like, ah, how many years, ah, ago did this take place
This was made in DCS, Digital Combat Simulator. Look it up. Essentially what it sounds like. The lighting gives it away on the surfaces of jets, let alone the sky. This video was made for entertainment purposes.
SR-71: “Nice ta meetcha!”

I believe the SR-71 engine design is on afterburner during their normal cruise speed.
If a real video, this whole scene would have been over neutral territory, not over Soviet airspace.

In this scenario the su27s had the blackbird by the balls. They could have shot it down pointblank and there's nothing the blackbird could have done about it.

@@marcosflores-march7278 Yeah, right! You are well informed. The CIA set up dozens of shell companies, in order to buy the necessary ingots of titanium in order to make the skin et al for the SR-71. Well spotted!!

There has only been one SR71 ever shot down........oh yeah, it was shot down by the Russians.
Beautiful, beautiful blackbird.
The SR is the most beautiful plane ever designed. Totally majestic!
Until you look at the SR-72
Damn, DCS graphics are getting scary good!
good cinematic DCS movie 😂
The SR-71 actually flies faster than a bullet fired from a M14 308 round, that is mind boggling
That is amazing that sr-71 can fly faster than a rifle round
As do the majority of jet fighters.
Faster than there rockets too !
@@steve5825
So what? The original poster was using that as a reference. Now add in the fact that the SR-71 was doing this back in 1966, and today SOME jet fighters may fly faster been a bullet but not all, and the ones that do, are still not as fast as the SR-71.
@@steve5825 no. The SR-71 was recorded going 2200 miles an hour. M4 308 round goes 2800/ft per second. That is less than 2000mph, but still really fast. (2800ft/second x 60 seconds x 60 minutes, equals 10080000, divide by 5280 "a mile" and its = 1909.0909096mph)
Most fighter jets however, cruise best at around 1000mph and in combat are around 1200-1500mph.
The Su-27 has a max speed of 1600mph. Its service ceiling is 62,000 feet. At altitude, it can go 1600. Sea level only about 1000mph.
The SR-71 has a max speed of 2200 mph, service ceiling of 85,000 feet and there is no differentiation in speed in the wiki between sea level or the 85,000 ft.
SR-71 is exceptional and to say that most are just as good is a joke.
I saw one land at Wright Patterson AFM in February of 1990. Left Beale AFB and was overhead in Dayton in 60 minutes. Did a couple high speed photo passes and a couple practice approaches before finally touching down. Not a very long runway. The orange chute was in the air and not quite inflated just before the tire smoke. I have the picture I took of it. One memory burned into my eyelids til I die.
Excelente!!!
While deployed on the Kitty Hawk in 87, an officer walked into Air Ops and informed us that an aircraft will be passing through the carrier's controlled airspace. (There is no top limit to an aircraft carrier's controlled airspace.) So, we air traffic controllers gathered around a radar scope and watched the aircraft primary target (no IFF, aka transponder code, no altitude encoder) and watched a primary target take seven sweeps to race from one side of the radar scope to the other side. We estimated the speed at around 2300 knots. Our F-14s were only capable of 1450 knots, about 300 knots faster than the F/A-18s.
I was at that final fly-in as well, right on the flight line inside the base. After the landing it became the top attraction at the Air Force Museum. This video is making the rounds and people have no idea that its long before their time.
Retired Aircraft top speed still classified.
No Russian aircraft ever got close to an SR-71, fact.

Once there was a real chance they could 1:12 have because one Blackberry Bird was having severe mechanical difficulties. But I think the technically neutral Swedes ran interference for us blocking the Russians.
SR-71: Yea im a just go now later
*Turns on afterburner*
This bad boy can fly at the edge of space! This is staggering 😲
And it was designed with a slide rule in the late 1950's.
It's footage from a game
Sorry, but a SR-71 could fly a lot higher and faster than a SU-27! Interesting simulation, though.
Wow! The graphics are so amazing! It looks so real!
SR71 goes to warp speed. See ya, Ivan!
Speed and/or altitude, too much for those Russian fighters!
In real life a missile would kill the SR-71 up close like that. But not at 85,000 feet at Mach 3.
You mean too much for those boiler plate and big rivet Russian fighters, they'd get no where near a Blackbird.
If the Russians use MiG 25 I don't know what will happen to the SR 71 it can reach up to mach 3 and can climb up to 80k feet
Not thrue !!
The record for the highest altitude, in a horizontally controlled flight by a military fighter, was 37km. A MiG-29 did this ‼️

Crazy how that 1960’s airframe still looks advanced compared to today’s adversarial aircraft.
Way to advanced for the 1960s definetly borrowed from our outer space friends
It is advanced aircraft and the technology is advanced
Intimidating the Blackbird? Naw! They were just admiring it!
Just casually walks off with afterburners lol.
What a beautiful beast.
SR-71 made famous for requesting a speed check from an air control tower. All because a Navy Pilot wanted to brag about how fast he was going
Another story I've heard:
Blackbird pilot: "Request flight level 600."
Rookie Air Traffic Controller: Buddy, if you think you can get up there, go for it. Nobody's up there "
Blackbird pilot: "Descending flight level 600."
what video game is this? the clouds are too blurry, the russian planes all turned in the same direction at the same exact time, and the sr71 let them see it, thats how I know this must be a video game
the game is DCS (digital combat simulator)
They knew better than to try and catch up with a SR-71
its a game called DCS
Fun fact: when the sr-71 set its declassified world speed record of Mach 3.2 it did so on one engine after it suffered a flame out on the mile 4 timing gate. The pilots flew it on one engine through mile marker 5 and 6. it's capable of around mach 3.7
Ok .. more like mach 5.5 and higher. Hmmm mach 5 patches on most crew that flew them. Official top speed 3.2 real top speed classified till this day most crew will say easy mach 4
Bad ASS!
Bye Bye!!!..👋🏼
4 SU-27 jets.. wow thats like 1/3 of the russian airforce...
TRUE LOL
😂 lol , really? When did a S 71 let Russian jet fighters get close to it ?
This is a simulation 😂
you spelled Ukraine wrong lol.. oh wait - are they getting 4 f-16s to be used as russian target practice...? hahahahhahaha.
Did you know, that 71% of USA´s F-35 are not combat capable just because they are almost permanently broken? (And that is in peace time, in war time I bet they would be broken all ). Did you know that Abrams tanks need 8 hours of maintenance for every one hour of combat use ? (Ukrainiens found out soon, that it is junk)
Last year we could see the "quality" of USA´s weapons in counterofensive in Ukraine. The only things which are remarkable about those guns are the PRICE and the SPEED in which these are being wiped out... Russian weapons are superior at all levels. The mere fact that the Russians have managed to bring several hypersonic missiles into use (!) within a few years and the Americans, in contrast, have not been able to do so for 10 years, shows the enormous difference. USA only has the most expensive military in the world, while Russia has the strongest army in the world and the most experienced army in the world.. About Ukraine war I say it like this: Who wants to be helping to a country(Ukraine) which kept killing civilians(russian language speakers) since 2014 ? It would be the same if someone would start helping to a man who attacked another man...., because Russia is helping to civilians in Donbas since those civilians were killed by thousands since 2014) It is like someone would start helping to a person who started with killing people....... About Ukraine war I say it like this: Would USA like Russia´s army in Mexico or Cuba? If your answer was NO while you do not mind NATO(it means USA´s army) near Russia, than something is very wrong with your reasoning, period.
tbf I'm not in the Russian side but saying this is utterly wrong. Less than 10% of the russian Air Force has been damaged by this conflict and they're still receiving new batches of su35s every 2 months
DCS simulator is pretty cool.
Yeah. Right. The Air Force permanently retired SR-71 in 1998
The official top speed for the sr-71 was Mach 3.2+, with a ceiling of 85k +, with no defense weapons. A former pilot said they once reached a speed of 1.6 miles per second or 5,700 mph.
Can’t touch this 👍🇺🇸
Real or not, I got a total sci-fi spaceship flyby vibe when the SR-71 decided "It's been nice but I'm just going to leave now." Funny how something so old has never been surpassed and, 60+ years later, still looks futuristic. I mean, really, now that the future of the early '60s is actually here, how many things from then can you say still look futuristic to us now? Uh, yup, just the SR-71. I'm an SR-71 fanboy and I don't apologize. :)

only fly at a top speed of 1,500 mph, while the SR 71 could fly at around 3,000 mph! Can you say "Bye, Bye"?
While this video is complete bullshit, the official top speed of the SR-71 was 2,193 mph, and the fastest it ever unofficially flew was around 2,500 mph for a few seconds.

Yeah, except MiG-31's were intercepting the Blackbird, but sure, not gonna happen lol.
@@SwapBlogRU That happened exactly twice and near the end of the SR-71's service. No Blackbird was ever shot down. By the time of those intercepts the U.S. satellites were starting to do most of the recon anyway. The first incident was a mig getting a radar lock but from a distance of 120km at about 52,000 ft.. It is questionable if the newest russian missile the R-33 I think could have shot it down.
That scenario never happened because the SR-71 flew too high and too fast for all airplanes. Also to intercept an SR-71 it had to be head on and meet it. The russians tried with the MIG-25 but could not synchronize a merge head on and from the rear it was impossible to gain on a SR-71. Later the russians used the MIG 31 with long range AAMs to get at head on merge with the SR-71. However the SR-71 flew very much higher than the MIG-31 and the merge was for a very short time. With the long range missiles the MIG-31 possibly could have shot down the SR-71 but the SR-71 always flew outside of russian territory so a shoot down would have created an international incident.
Definitely DCS NO WAY THEY WOULD EVEN BE ABLE TO GET THAT CLOSE!
