      Cool video but, were su27s around when the SR-71 was in service? And I thought sr71s were decommissioned and relegated to "on display" only. Sr71 would have gotten ghost long before any threat got close enough to even smell it's vapor trail.

    No. As a US Air Force aviation meteorologist, I conducted MANY DD Form 175-1 Flight Weather Briefings to SR-71 aircrew. Part of that were winds and flight hazards at altitude. They ROUTINELY flew at FL850...and ain't no plane going to get anywhere near them.

      @@steve5825 no. The SR-71 was recorded going 2200 miles an hour. M4 308 round goes 2800/ft per second. That is less than 2000mph, but still really fast. (2800ft/second x 60 seconds x 60 minutes, equals 10080000, divide by 5280 "a mile" and its = 1909.0909096mph)
      Most fighter jets however, cruise best at around 1000mph and in combat are around 1200-1500mph.
      The Su-27 has a max speed of 1600mph. Its service ceiling is 62,000 feet. At altitude, it can go 1600. Sea level only about 1000mph.
      The SR-71 has a max speed of 2200 mph, service ceiling of 85,000 feet and there is no differentiation in speed in the wiki between sea level or the 85,000 ft.
      SR-71 is exceptional and to say that most are just as good is a joke.

      While deployed on the Kitty Hawk in 87, an officer walked into Air Ops and informed us that an aircraft will be passing through the carrier's controlled airspace. (There is no top limit to an aircraft carrier's controlled airspace.) So, we air traffic controllers gathered around a radar scope and watched the aircraft primary target (no IFF, aka transponder code, no altitude encoder) and watched a primary target take seven sweeps to race from one side of the radar scope to the other side. We estimated the speed at around 2300 knots. Our F-14s were only capable of 1450 knots, about 300 knots faster than the F/A-18s.

      Did you know, that 71% of USA´s F-35 are not combat capable just because they are almost permanently broken? (And that is in peace time, in war time I bet they would be broken all ). Did you know that Abrams tanks need 8 hours of maintenance for every one hour of combat use ? (Ukrainiens found out soon, that it is junk)
      Last year we could see the "quality" of USA´s weapons in counterofensive in Ukraine. The only things which are remarkable about those guns are the PRICE and the SPEED in which these are being wiped out... Russian weapons are superior at all levels. The mere fact that the Russians have managed to bring several hypersonic missiles into use (!) within a few years and the Americans, in contrast, have not been able to do so for 10 years, shows the enormous difference. USA only has the most expensive military in the world, while Russia has the strongest army in the world and the most experienced army in the world.. About Ukraine war I say it like this: Who wants to be helping to a country(Ukraine) which kept killing civilians(russian language speakers) since 2014 ? It would be the same if someone would start helping to a man who attacked another man...., because Russia is helping to civilians in Donbas since those civilians were killed by thousands since 2014) It is like someone would start helping to a person who started with killing people....... About Ukraine war I say it like this: Would USA like Russia´s army in Mexico or Cuba? If your answer was NO while you do not mind NATO(it means USA´s army) near Russia, than something is very wrong with your reasoning, period.

Funny how something so old has never been surpassed and, 60+ years later, still looks futuristic. I mean, really, now that the future of the early '60s is actually here, how many things from then can you say still look futuristic to us now? Uh, yup, just the SR-71. I'm an SR-71 fanboy and I don't apologize. :)

      @@SwapBlogRU That happened exactly twice and near the end of the SR-71's service. No Blackbird was ever shot down. By the time of those intercepts the U.S. satellites were starting to do most of the recon anyway. The first incident was a mig getting a radar lock but from a distance of 120km at about 52,000 ft.. It is questionable if the newest russian missile the R-33 I think could have shot it down.

  • @gabork.8715
    @gabork.8715 25 дней назад +4

    That scenario never happened because the SR-71 flew too high and too fast for all airplanes. Also to intercept an SR-71 it had to be head on and meet it. The russians tried with the MIG-25 but could not synchronize a merge head on and from the rear it was impossible to gain on a SR-71. Later the russians used the MIG 31 with long range AAMs to get at head on merge with the SR-71. However the SR-71 flew very much higher than the MIG-31 and the merge was for a very short time. With the long range missiles the MIG-31 possibly could have shot down the SR-71 but the SR-71 always flew outside of russian territory so a shoot down would have created an international incident.
