Bob Ross was a sergeant in the military. His gentle persona was a deliberate choice to turn away from cruelty and violence. The more you learn about him, the more respect you find he deserves.
Editor throwing a ton of shade this episode 😂 "y'all watch TV for your damn job"
I loved this episode because they rarely address Huey and Riley’s parents, but occasionally, they’ll do episodes where you can tell it’s still a sore subject and the boys are still dealing with it in different ways.
I rewatched this episode recently, and literally had me tearing up over Riley’s mural at the end. And I’m pretty sure those’r Riley & Huey’s parents.
i am shocked to see there are people that think its grandad and his wife, that doesnt make sense
Huey and Riley's parents are right. That factoid is mentioned in the DVD commentary.
@@vitorsaraiva5046the way the deduce shit baffles me sometimes
@@CLDJ227Their granddad would certainly look like their dad after all
@@ChaseMayProductionsyeah it just doesn't make much sense logicly riley never saw his grandparents young
"He kinda had a blonde fro" The confidence they have when spouting wrong shit never ceases to amaze me lmfao
Even when they were looking at the picture of him, they doubled down.
Im like it was kinda darker, but he's definitely supposed to be portraying him tho 😅
And he was born in Daytona Beach Florida
ft especially the guy at the very left and he always spoils shit if he's watched it
Bob Ross was in the military, on the medical team, but that still requires military combat training
Yea when the bullets start flying, everyone basically becomes infantry
Hey Chris, Navi is actually right. Huey’s speech did change.
11:31 The only reason we can see the moon is because it reflects light from the sun, it has no natural light of it's own, thats why the moon goes through phases where it's only partially lit since the earth is rotating👍
I learnt this in school when I was 10 years old. 💀
I did some heavy research (took me bout 5 minutes). And it turns out that the painting at the end of the episode was Riley's deceased parents. Bob Ross told him to "paint someone you love... Someone who's not around anymore." It wouldn't make sense to be Granddad because he's not deceased. This was confirmed to be Huey and Riley's parents. That's why Granddad started crying because he misses "his" son.
Granddad isn't deceased but his wife probably is. The pic that Riley took from the photo album looked like an old school wedding photo from Granddad's younger years
Incorrect. The painting is a younger version of Granddad and his deceased wife.
@@KevinWilsonJr.it’s actually confirmed to be the parents of R & H
@@KevinWilsonJr. No, it's Riley and Huey's parents
LMAO why is it so hard to imagine a character based on bob ross
Pat knew right away who that character was suppose to be 😅
Rick Ross? Maybe? Only explanation I can think of.
@@VDA19 he's chaotic good
In case you guys don't know, Huey watching all black TV is a parody of the documentary "Super Size Me" where some guy ate McDonald's for a month.
If you guys havent watched the episode of Bob Ross coming into the studio to film an episode the day his wife died is one of the most soul crushing episodes in TV history.
One of the best episodes in my opinion.
I'm pretty sure it was Riley's parents .
Many fans have concluded that the mural Riley paints at the end of the episode is his parents. This is evidenced by many things:
#1.When showing the mural from Robert's perspective, it's mostly focused on the man, which would make sense since the man would be Robert's son. If Robert were looking at his own wedding picture, he would presumably focus on his wife rather than looking at himself.
#2. The art teacher told Riley to paint "someone he loves . . . someone who's not around anymore". Given that many believe it's Robert and his wife, it wouldn't make sense for Riley to paint his grandfather as well, unless he was dead.
#3. Huey stated in episode 3 that when he was three, he thought Robert was gay due to never seeing him with another woman, possibly because his wife was dead. Given that Riley would still be one at that age, he would not have any memory of his grandmother since she was deceased.
#4. The style of dress, hair and makeup worn by the bride would fit much better for a wedding in the 1980s/90s (when Riley and Huey's parents were married) than the 1940s/50s when Robert and his wife got married.
For n2 I assumed he took that advice and make the mural for grampa not for himself, also would tie to his lack of trust for his grandson art talent.
Surprised they didn’t talk about how beautiful this episodes ending and theme was. I think cause boondocks is seen as a joke it gets less credit for when it’s not doing straight political satire. I honestly think it’s emotional moments are better. The political satire can come off rote sometimes given you already know your side of the argument and it’s just saying that that yeah notice that thing you notice already. We agree/disagree. Instead of well you never considered this. Maybe they aren’t super into the series yet. To be fair the show front loads silly episodes to hook people. Pet peeve of mine that shows considered “deep” and taken seriously and put on pedestals are those that tell you their themes with sappy music and it feels like a lecture vs simple on the surface but also deep shows.
In case anyone was wondering about the music Chris was referring to:
The song featured in the show was: "Today" by Tom Scott feat. The California Dreamers
The song Chris was talking about that sampled this song is: "They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)" by Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth
Still one of my favorite hip hop joints. Played the fuck out of that single tape back in high school.
Thanks i had no idea what he said 😂
The mural is Huey's and Riley's parents. They never knew There grandma i think. They were probably too young when there parents died but still, also Grandpa would have wearer glasses if that was him
There’s a fan debate if that’s young granddad and his wife or Riley’s and Hueys Parents
I always thought the picture at the end was Huey and Riley's parents.
does... does pat think rick astley and bob ross are the same person? Does he think that famous pbs artist bob ross also wrote and sang never gonna give you up?
I swear the single shared brain cell has never been more evident, you have chris and spidey who both think he was blonde for some reason, we already discussed pat, you have rana who thinks hes chubby and doesnt have a fro (I have no idea who shes thinking of) and then you have navi who is the only person on the couch who knows what bob ross looks like lmao.
I’m pretty sure Riley painted his parents.
I thought that was supposed to their parents. The man looked like Huey and the woman looked like Riley. The first episode grandad talks about their inheritance, n it was supposed to be someone who isn’t with them anymore
Those were Riley and Hueys parents. And Bob Ross was a drill sergeant in the Air Force. He spent his tv career being the opposite of how he was as a sergeant.
There is some debate weather its Huey and Riley's parents or Robert and his wife.
It's their parents. Robert's POV shot is focused more on the man, his son. If it was his wife, the woman would be the focus
Stop it,it was never confirmed to be the parents at all,it's left ambiguous on purpose
@@SupportGamin2024Riley drew "people who are no longer with us". Grandpa stares at the man. That's his son.
@SupportGamin2024 It was confirmed the parents
This episode is so underrated, & why i rhink Riley would be a street artist/muralist when he's older. I truly think he's talented in black artist & would go down that route mostly once he mature bc when he does something he loves, even lowkey about it, he exceeds in it.
Plus, it shows a bit of his softer side (he is 8) when it's nurtured. He misses his parents (i feel like they're his parents w/ Robert's son & his wife). This is why I wish we got more on what happened to them & why no one else in tbe family wanted them. Could show where Riley & Huey's personalities came from.
I always tear up at the end, right before Grandad gets me laughing again lmao. Definitely one of Boondocks' best episodes.
A lot of people including myself think the painting at the end is their parents, but grandad and his wife also works
The camera focuses on the male when Grandad looks at the painting which implies he’s Grandad’s son, so these are in fact Huey and Riley’s parents.
Love this episode. Every time I see grandads reaction to the mural I get just a lil teary-eyed.
I still think that is Huey and Riley's Parents
Granddad was shown when he was young and thats not him on the wall
Top 10 episode for me, the ending was touching and the message as usual was on point.
Editor goin’ off 💀
The guy tackling the woman in the office was Terry Tate Office Linebacker. Was popular Reebok ads.
Lol I don’t understand why you guys got so hung up on whether it was literally Bob Ross, it’s obviously just a reference to him.
I believe it’s never been officially confirmed who the was in the mural but I took it to be the boy’s parents.
This is my favorite Boondocks episode lol I love the Bob Ross reference.
8:42 If anyone is curious that's a reference to some old skits/commercials called 'Terry Tate: Office Linebacker' - fuckin hilarious, I highly recommend lol.
One of the best episodes of the show.
🤭 9:30 This burn made my night! 😄
*EDIT:* Wasn't the last painting of their parents?
Also *Chris,* you said this was pre-Obama…but only _just._ Season 2 ran in '07 during the 2008 presidential race and ended in March of '08.
I Can't Wait Till You Guy's Get To Season 2,You Will Definitely Love That Season Forsure
"Does it have to be houses though?"
I think that's the point, the premise of the show is that the kids are suddenly living in the suburbs, where a bunch of houses are the only things around you. There aren't any businesses or public buildings to tag, just an endless hellscape of shitty houses and shitty lawns.
I forgot about this episode and hadn't seen it since I was a kid but I always thought it was grandad too 🤷🏻♂️
The song is called "Today" by Tom Scott. One of the greatest rift sampled by Pete Rock and CL Smooth for T.R.O.Y.
"We got any grape soda?"
Huey is doing a parody of the real life "Super Size Me" documentary movie
Rana throwing shade at Mickey and Surj
It’s actually his mother and father
I think it’s his parents
15:06
One of the most heartwarming scenes in the entire series and she calls it stupid. Cringe. Why even watch the show
I keep replaying that response of hers in my head. I had thought that she was using, "stupid" as meaning something cool, from having used, or having heard slang speech before. But the look on her face suggests that she may actually mean that she thought it was dumb for Riley to do that image for his painting.. I chose for my own sake to go and continue to assume that it was the former response that she had.
I love this ep. Good parody of Bob Ross. I nearly choked when Pat recognized who it was right away and was so excited! 😂
As Always Love Seeing Your Reactions To The Boondocks, Everyone
Don't thinks any anybody's said it but that wasn't Grandad and Grandma it was mom and dad.
I dont understand why you guys dont get that this show doesnt have to make the character look perfectly like the celebrity for us to know who it is. They do it on PURPOSE! Why are we stuck on his hair color, we all knew it was Bob Ross!! And yes, its a parody so he's gonna do crazy stuff sooner or later. That is why we love the Boondocks. Winston Jerome didnt look like Tyler Perry, but we all know who it is. The teacher saying "niggaaaah" looks nothing like the real life teacher, but we know who it is.
Did Pat really get Bob Ross and Rick Astley confused like man how Ross sound like Rick.
Bob Ross is probably one of the only recognizable white dude's with an afro. So yes, most people immediately think Bob Ross. Especially once he starts talking lol
It's never really clear who Riley painted at the end. It could have been his grandmother or his parents. Both make sense in context.
It's his parents confirmed on the DVD commentary
In NYC youths can reside in juvenile detention as early as seven years old.
RIP Bob Ross.
Have y'all seen Black Dynamite???
In regards to the real Bob Ross's hair color, it was a light brown that darkened as he got older. Confusion comes from his earlier show which had an awkward lighting setup that washed out his hair making it look like it got blonde at the ends.
14:32 There's alot of discussion whether it's supposed to be grandad and his wife, or if it's supposed to be the boy's parents
I wish we got more Bob Ross in this show. I love his interaction with Riley here
His name is Robert Paulsen. His name is Robert Paulsen.
All time favorites right here.
For everyone arguing in the comments about if the final painting is of grandad and his late wife or if its riley and hueys parents, the creator of the show has never addressed it and its a hot debate on reddit. Just know its art and art is interpreted by the viewer and can mean or be whatever you want it to be. We just know it was of someone riley loves and it touched grandad so it could be either. And if your argument is that huey didnt react ao it must be grandad, just know that huey was lost in his experiment of BET binging so he was emotionless the majority of the episode.
Great reaction! This was a fun one!

18:24 dont forget the episode that tyler perry got pulled the episode pause
Stop looking at Adult Swim 😂💀
My number 1 favorite episode of The Boondocks
What in the fuck is Pat Drinking?
Rob Paulsen was the voice of the art teacher resembling the late Bob Ross
His name was Robert Paulson.
@@darkzer0670i understood that reference
The painting at the end is Riley and Huey's parents.
Uhhh where's the office?
Most states won’t send a child to Juvie over a misdemeanor. Although they’ll threaten it with every breath, in all actuality it’s just a small fine. The process of persecution and sentencing, as well as the upkeep for the prisoner during their time in is way more expensive.
Dark Brow Hair btw. Fuck i love Bob Ross, i recommend looking up his life story.
5:41 I think Pat confused Bob Ross for Rick Ross and then confused Rick Ross with Rick Astley
One of the best episodes in the show
I feel like white people have a different definition of blonde. I've had my friends tell me that hair (which to me is clearly brown) is blonde, and nobody of color agrees 😂😂😂
Couldn’t make him to much like bob ross or they woulda got sued like the future BET episodes
..... Bob Ross is from Daytona Beach trying to claim him hes one of us a Florida man 🌴🐊😂
I wish the creators of Boondocks featured an episode that focused on the boys' parents.....and what happened to them.
Y’all probably don’t know but they have conspiracies about Bob Ross so this episode makes sense to me lol
One of my fav eps 😂❤❤
Actually, it's confirmed that the painted couple are Huey's and Riley's parents who passed.
didnt know yall was from indiana , i went to school in jeffersonville for a few years . S/O to the home team
Let’s gooooooooo
Who challenged the dude on the right to say just the wrong things in every situation?
probably the best episode of the show i cant lie
2:29 no one notices the meme face chick in the right made. She made the meme vid come to life ;-;
I mean Suraj is a great straight man, has good opinions, probably doesn’t show as much investment in a series like Rana, and Navi, and has okay takes, aside from taking Ambers side in invincible. Then Micky, eh he’s there, shame some moments have to be filtered through his ideals and modern sensibilities for him to not go through an exposition as how that doesn’t make sense or is completely wrong because it doesn’t line up with his personal beliefs.
lol 😂 then mickey…he’s there lmao and suraj has middle opinions when hes not stating his theories as facts
I like Micky. He strikes me as a pretty intelligent & even-keeled guy. He's prob in my top 3.
Suraj is my favourite
Chris and Spidey do not know what Bob Ross looks like
Since this episode has a spoof on Bob Ross, here’s a fun fact: Bob Ross was a former drill sergeant.
You can be Younger than teenagers in the juvenile system
Ilol the way you guys are sitting it looks like a skin tone chart
Start watchIng season 2 already
Whatd you say the song was at 14:08?
15:50 bob ross died in 95 yall
