Fantasy was NEVER geared toward their imaginary "modern audiences".

    • @user-gm4kv2my4u

There ARE "modern audience friendly" fantasy IPs. The Elder Scrolls. Modern Friendly. 100 Thousand Kingdoms. Already gleefully woke and geared towards a female audience. The Parasol Protectorate. Gleefully woke and geared towards a female audience. They did The Last Air Bender but managed to screw it up - twice. Wheel of Time is also 'modern audience' friendly. They just screwed it up.
The problem isnt a lack of fantasy ips to appeal to a 'modern audience.' The problem is a lack of talented writers in Hollywood - yet an excess of unjustified arrogance. Hollywood writers suck and executives are too greedy and stupid to do anything about it.

    • @Nyet-Zdyes

Correct. Fantasy is about heroes and heroines... and making sacrifices for the good of others.
"The Modern Audience" is about *pretending* to do/be good, while actually *being* ... well, Sauron, or Palpatine, for example.

The DEI incentive can be explained as follows:
Amazon (or Disney or Apple etc...) can create shit programming because if they are in line with DEI policies their executives are provided with financial bonuses based upon their compliance scorecard (yes they actually have scorecards).
It's called Environment and Social Governance (ESG), an idea created by the Chinese government as a method of incentivizing propaganda through corporate population control. These incentives are given to overpaid business executives by corporations at the direction of the investors like BlackRock, State Street, and Vanguard who own controlling shares in most of the corporations in the US, and also due to regulatory policies created by federal, state, and local governments.
These regulations allow corporations to shelter their profits from taxation in proportion to their ESG compliance (see score carding). Now most large corporations have ESG/DEI clauses in their contracts with suppliers that they push for, and favor, when awarding procurements (they call it "Flow Down"). This is nothing more than a top down press, incentivized by the government, to force propaganda down the throats of a mostly unwitting population.
    Welcome to Neo-Communism folks.
Remember when Ralphie, using his decoder ring, was disgusted by the "Drink Ovaltine" commercial imbedded in his favorite program? It's like that except a significant percentage of the population is swilling that shit into a diabetic coma.

    *LOTR IS POLITICALLY CORRECT*
Example: *ELF* - Old English, and of Germanic origin. Found throughout the Germanic languages and originally means 'white being.'
Altering The Lord of the Rings to appease modern-day political correctness is not only unnecessary but also an insult to the historical and cultural foundations upon which it was built. The story is meant to represent European culture and history, dating back from the fifth to the 15th centuries. As a philologist and etymologist, Tolkien carefully crafted his works to reflect the true meaning of words and ideas based on their historical origins. Therefore, altering or adapting his stories to fit modern-day inclusion contradicts the very essence of his works.

    • @rpgadventurer32

It's not "modern day inclusion", it's modern day anti-white, anti-European racist ideology whose purpose is to remove white people or native Europeans from long term on-screen representation in their own cultural properties and history, together with the political ideology of open border policies and mass immigration from third world countries implemented only in European and Western countries with predictable disastrous results that we all see today. It's goes far deeper than "modern day inclusion" because it was never about inclusion, it was always about "white guilt" and self hatred.

GoT was a great series at the start, when they were following and respecting the storyline from the books. GoT went down the pan, when the writing team and showrunners ran out of actual story to tell (becasue JRRM hadn't got around to finishing the next book) and started making shit up. This naturally meant they started relying on what they know (because they had someone TELLING them what to know when they used the books) and they know nothing but "Hollywierd bubble". So things started not making sense and contradicting what went before and rushing storylines, until the 'big bad' who was built up over 7 seasons as being something everyone should be terrified of, was dispatched by a little girl with a knife.

She-hulk show runner stated her motivation for making the show and the deliberate intention of the show is to upset the male fans.
As for staying true to the source material, the guy who used to be in charge of hiring writers for Marvel movies and shows said he only hires people who don’t know anything about superheroes. That way they can use character names but be completely open to imagining them doing absolutely anything. This tends to be very different from or even the exact opposite of what the actual character is like.

They never ran out of material for Thrones, they abandoned a book & a halfs worth of story in season 5, most of Feast & Dance were slashed, they just cherry picked the key moments (Walk of Shame, Arya in Braavos, Dany riding Drogon for the first time & Jon getting stabbed), even those were half arsed adaptations. It's like taking a 1000 piece puzzle, removing half the pieces, getting Son of Tardo to fill in the gaps with crayon then going "why doesn't it look like the picture on the box?"
The rest of season 5 & 6 are badly written fanfic (Jaime and Bronn in Dorne for example, total fanfic & 40 minutes wasted on a trash subplot they wrote on the fly & only had 9 days to shoot, or everything involving Ollie a shitty show-only that took Dolorus Ed's spotlight, killing Mance, Stannis & Barristan early, the dogshit Sandor/Brienne fight, shoe-horning Sansa into Jayne Pooles story with Ramsay. No Lady Stoneheart, Golden Company/Young Griff, Grand Northern Conspiracy, most of the magic, visions & prophecy removed etc....... I forgot how much I fucking hate season 5 😂).
I don't know why people keep pushing this narrative that they ran out of books, it's an access media shill narrative that got circulated in season 7 to take heat off Benioff & Weiss (George is still an arsehole that needs to finish the god damn books 🤬🤬)

Well, when you removed half the books from the script... yeah, they did run out of books.
The problem is they thought they needed to stream line the story so they could fit it into the however many seasons HBO was willing to take things but ended up surpassing the books stopping off point because they cut too much stuff.
Magic was a budget issue more than anything. Hell, the dragons are talked about in behind the scenes stuff as being ridiculously expensive to have in the show.
At the end of the day, producers are thinking long term and how long are audiences really going to stick with a show and how long can they keep throwing tons of money at episodes AND make it all back.

@@James_Bee HBO wanted at least 10 seasons, it was the most watched show in the world for 5 years & HBO woulda churned out as many seasons as they could, that's why they're spending £200million a season on House of The Dragon & Knight of The Seven Kingdoms spin offs.
George told them from the start "I want a faithful adaptation of my work & for that you need 10 years" to which they said "that's what we intend to do". Then they blew the pilot, had to scrap everything & start season 1 over which set the whole show back a year & cost us Tamsin Merchant as Daenerys (Clarke is servicable but mid).
The only reason they got a second shot is because Richard Plepler at HBO said they had enough international licensing for season 1 to break even. People don't realize how close the show was to dying before it was even released, guess they weren't there.
It's on Benoiff & Weiss, mostly Benioff because after they signed the deal he admitted to HBO & George that he "bluffed" (lied) and he had no clue how to run a tv show, early seasons were a logistical nightmare for cast & crew because of that.
In 2015, when season 5 was in post production they were negotiating their last contract & refused to do more than 7 seasons citing burn out, they later agreed to 8 seasons only if the last 2 were shorter. The whole "It was the Star Wars deal" excuse is bullshit too because that wasn't even on the table til 2017.

@@napoleonfeanorSGA was cancelled because it wasn’t what BSG was: dystopian
      A genocidal apocalypse = dystopian
The point of BSG was history repeating itself, and giving us the main reasons why ie human nature + technology
The world as we know it - reality - is moving towards a dystopian future where it’s either enslavement or ‘nuclear Armageddon’.

One day, ai will be advanced enough that we, the fans, can just make our own Tv shows and movies. Cgi, ai deepfakes, ai voices. It’s gonna happen one day. Then we’ll finally see a proper sillmarilion adaptation. We’ll see Han, Luke and Leia have the swan song they deserved. We’ll get everything the way we always wanted. One day.

Imagine if there was a memo within Amazon, stating that ALL STAFF must watch RoP, maybe even just the first 10 minutes of each episode. Now, if someone were to look at staffing numbers and remove that figure from the viewing figures already released…. I wonder how low that number would fall?

The one Amazon show I was actually into Outer Range was canceled after 2 seasons with the no answers. So pissed off. There's honestly nothing else interesting on Amazon. I'm only keeping my Prime membership for buying stuff, not for Amazon's shows or movies. I haven't watched anything on Prime since the season 2 finale of Outer Range.

I think he meant he wanted it to do well - as in what it could have been - not that he wants it to succeed now. In a world without modern writing for the modern audience, with competent storytellers that ashere to the lore and minor interveneces from studio suits, ROP could have been a phenomenal story. Would it have been perfect? No, and fans would find something to nitpick, but it would have been so much better than what is reality now.

The funny thing to me is that fantasy has always been for everybody regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, etc.
Fantasy stories exist in made up worlds with made up races and creatures. Fantasy tells stories that anybody can relate to about heroes triumphing over evil, or people of different races banding together and becoming friends. There are great messages through all fantasy works that are relatable to everybody.
You don’t have to have a character that looks exactly like you because it’s about more than that. News flash…my wife isn’t male and doesn’t look like Frodo or Sam, but she still tears up and related to their story of friendship and brotherly love for one another.
It’s never been about relating to characters by only seeing your most shallow qualities in them…it’s about the deeper things within a character or a story that pulls you in and that is why modern fantasy fails. They don’t follow the source material because they want to be “inclusive”, but in turn they exclude more people by just making it about the least important things the make us human.
