    Welcome to every bow hunters nightmare!! From the highest of highs to the lowest of lows! Appreciate you showing the whole story!! People don't understand how we as hunters are thankful for the animals we harvest. We all feel the same emotion you felt. You handled it with class!!

    • @TheElementWild
      @TheElementWild  10 месяцев назад

      Thank you, Bryan! I appreciate all the knowledge you’ve shared over the years. What’s your thoughts on the shot?

    • @bryanschertz4233
      @bryanschertz4233 10 месяцев назад +3

      First take I thought it was just a little forward normal speed. When I seen the shot in slow motion, slightly quarter to you. The angle of the arrow caught just a little shoulder and then into the lung. I thought you would have found him dead the next morning. It was definitely fatal, just a littler longer than I would have expected. You were spot on the distance! He only moved a little. Some animals are tuff as nails!! BEAUTIFUL BUCK!! That one will make you over think the next one you harvest!

  • @lawnwrecker
    @lawnwrecker 9 месяцев назад +7

    Great job K.C. what a beautiful buck, I loved the way you tied this together at the end, speaking from the heart, a true hunter and a kind man. A kill no matter the weapon when not quickly lethal is tough to watch. I appreciate your closing words, something similar happened this year with my son's bow kill. We walked up and finished him at ten yards, and that's as he looked us in the eye.
    We walked over and knelt next to him and held hands and thanked the lord for our time together, the harvest of the deer, for just being alive, enjoying gods creations, I haven't ever done that in fifty years of hunting, my son turned to me and said Dad that was great, we stood up and embraced.
    It's funny but this year "I'm 61 now" is the first time I have been moved so deeply over a kill and felt a bit of remorsefulness. Something for me anyway has changed, I think age is part of it and knowing how precious each day is. Seeing something so beautiful, so incredibly tough, etc.. it's hard watching it's life end. Like you said K.C. knowing you were the reason it's dying, that's a huge responsibility to be in charge of and cared for with respect.
    Early in my hunting career in my twenties I was a stone killer, it was kind of like a blood lust maybe, it was all about the kill. If it walked, crawled, flew that mean't I was chasing it, and I was determined to end the day with a kill. It's just so much more then that, just being able to get out in the woods, taking it all in, the kill is just a fraction of what its about.
    The fire still burns in me, I still love hunting and being in the woods, yet if I don't see a hair its all good though, its so much more then that.
    We all should never forget our blessings, freedoms, security and how precious all life is. We should all slow down and take a moment every now and then to reflect on our blessings and to give thanks to our creator, who's afforded us this great outdoors, these incredible creatures to hunt, this life.
    Have a great rest of your season fellas, hunt smart, hunt safe.

    I cant begin to tell you how much i appreciate your take at the end of the hunt. Deer hunting or any hunting for that matter is a passion but also a tremendous responsibility that we dont take lightly. It is so fullfilling and at the same time a solemn moment of appreciation for the opportunity and gratitude to the Lord for his blessing.

    I had a very similar situation this year. My first shot should have been plenty good enough for a quick end, but I had to track him over 600 yards. It was a pass through shot, both his front legs were broken by the time he finally layed down. I crawled up to 12 yards for the final 2 shots and he still tried to get up and run. Very dramatic experience, it was most definitely bittersweet.

This shows everyone the persistence and struggle it may take when everything goes wrong, because for allot of people one arrow does not mean one dead deer, you guys did a great job, and think god might have put those other hunters there that day, knowing you would need more shots, I bet you will start caring 5 arrows im the future tho.

    I’ve served most of my adult life in the military and have experienced the same emotional experience with a harvest. Almost to the point it had me questioning my own beliefs about doing what I loved. Looking the animal directly in the eye as you had to make a stalk to end the life of an animal you so dearly admire is something I don’t want to do again. Since that hunt I’ve probably passed more questionable shots and situations compared to others who would not have. But at 50yrs old and over 16yrs of military service I feel more comfort being that way. I pray one clean shot at every release but also understand that reality is there for things to not go the way we expect. People can say want they want but as you get older things change. I’m not the hard core jarhead I once was.

    24:50 I love the feeling when I’m in west Texas hunting knowing that the land I’m looking at has been the same forever and not many if any man has stood where I am standing.

    Do you have any idea why your arrow didn’t go through both lungs and the body? We would all like to know I think. I once shot at a monster mule deer and I hit him right in the bone of the front leg in the shoulder. Bad shot. He just ran away like if nothing happened and I could see my arrow dangling barely in and blood on him until he disappeared in the first bushes about 200 meters away. I waited and then I went and I found my arrow at the edge of the bush and a little blood on the leaves and less and less blood and then I never saw that deer again until I returned many weeks later and I saw him and he was perfectly healthy. He was not my intended target, I had been crawling on my belly for hours to get at a HUGE one (both deer had bedded down after I spotted them far away) but suddenly when I was so close to them (less than 20 m) but could not see them, the big one exploded in front of me and on my left, jumping in the air so high and so fast that I never got a shot and then the “smaller” (still a huge buck but not a Boonie) stood up and started walking and I decided to take the shot while he was walking in an angle. I know stupid, just an inch or two to the left and I would have got him in the lungs…. It affected me so bad that I hunted with my rifle after that. But next year, after years of hunting with a rifle, I would like to hunt with one of my bows again with one of my sons, especially if we could go in our favourite spot where we got so many nice ones in the past.

      Yes. It actually went through both lungs, but broadhead didn't open. Last time I shoot an unproven point at a deer.

    happen to me once, the deer was single lung high and sit for 8h not dead, 3 bloody bed cause i jump him thinking its dead since its a broad side shot. when I got to him 12h later he still alive, look at me but cant stand up cause he lost too much blood, i hold him down with a wood block and my buddy put him to sleep with a knife, not even a big deer. If the deer got shot lay down and look at you and not run its already a dead deer, but its funny that this deer look like a porcupine with all the arrow =). You can just walk right up and put him down, if he can run he already did. Nice deer.

    I’m assuming you shot a mechanical. When are people going to learn that they are cripplers. I wish mechanicals were illegal everywhere
