- ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS!!!
- end value (seconds)
- time value (frame count of the clip)
- multiplier (a value, defined by you, to determine how much frames of the original clip you want new one to have, like 0.7 (70% frames of original))
less frames plays faster, more - slower.
-To calculate multiplier, divide 1 by desired playback speed - for example, if you need 1.5x:
1/1.5 = around 0.66.
time * multiplier / frame rate
use time value from original clip
divide by frame rate of your video to obtain end value in seconds from frames
you paste time value before edit to cram/stretch frames of the clip into new shorter/longer duration
to enable time property on a clip:
Rclick - Time - normal - forward/backward - x1
DEFAULT WAY (drop down menu):
Rclick - Time - fast/slow - forward/backward - 2x/4x etc
i hope it helps!
Hi!
Here's very quick tutorial on how to speed up or slow down a video (slow motion) in OpenShot 2.5.1 by custom value (different than drop-down menu under time options)
I found myself looking for solution and spent some time doing so, that's why i made this brief video so you don't have to search!
Enjoy, like and subscribe if you found my video useful!
Also, i am open to constructive criticism so i can improve my videos

As a total beginner in video editting, this really helps!
Thank you Alephonya!
Bro u just saved me from hell.I made animation in blender which was too fast when animated.i was not in mood to recreate frames so I thought to watch videos which slows and u came .Thanks a lot
You're welcome, I'm glad it helped someone
Hi, thanks for the video. I have followed the steps till the end of the video, and have managed to achieve what i needed.
My aim was to sync up two videos with totally different speeds, hence the multiplier I used is about 0.454. I took the shorter video length and hastened the longer video, now they have the same length and synced. The last step was really critical (so do take note).
This is perfect. Thanks for making a thing made complicated by some simpler with math.
Thank you this is very helpful and precise!
Why we need to have a degree and do 10 steps just to do something simple that in other programs just have to press a key and drag!!! openshot its complicated for no reason, btw great vid pal
I don't know why anybody compliments this, you're jumping around to quickly to actually see what you're doing, and not speaking doesn't help make it any clearer.
slow down the video, pause if you need to. Not everything can be spoon fed to you bro.
Thank you
I found a way for custom slow down: first apply the standard slow down function 1/2 (or 1/4, depending on your need) and save the video clip. Then use the custom speed up way to obtain the desired speed between 1x and 1/2 , or between 1/2 and 1/4.
Thank you so much you've saved my life.
thanks
Plz.. tell me the process in written. I not understood.. bro
Thank you.
I did it but some background unpleasant sound has been generated. Pls guide what to do.
I haven't used openshot in a while and did not come across similar issue, but if nothing else works, you can try a workaround and edit audio separately in audacity for example and add it as audio track (and disable audio of the clip).
im stuck at the calculator part, i dont know what to calculate on it, it was going super fast and when i changed the speed of the video at that part i was still confused so can you tell me what i am supposed to calculate on that part?
You are supposed to calculate end of the clip value after modification (End value is in seconds). You need to copy time value (time value is amount of frames your clip has) before you made any changes, then multiply it by a modifier (a value, defined by you, to determine how much frames of the original clip you want new one to have, like 0.7 (70% frames of original)), less frames plays faster, more - slower. Then divide it by frame rate of your video (to obtain end value in seconds from frames, hence the divide by frame rate). Then you paste time value before edit to cram/stretch frames of the clip into new shorter/longer duration. Now that i look at this tutorial, it really should've been longer, slower and more elaborate cause it's kinda messed up! Thanks for letting me know so i can make better tutorials in the future.
When ever I follow the steps, the video turns black, any idea how to fix it?
can u plz suggest how can i make my videos speed of 1.5x in openshot bcz options starts from 2x and its too fast for me
thank!
mine is super laggy after. what do i do differently?
If you mean audio, try to work this around by editing it separately. If you mean overall it could be related to frames that have been cut out wrong (may be a little error in export settings) or some error in calculations (try double checking if all the values are matching like frame rate, modifier etc). If you mean preview, you could have too little ram (when i use 8gb it stutters a lot and crashes on export often, on 16gb its better - when working with 1080p). But i can't really tell, i do not know all that much about open shot. I encounter weird stuff that i can't find solutions to anywhere, and this method is quite tinkery and not really straightforward, it's safer to use the default way. I wish they added more options in drop down menu, it would help a lot.
did this at 1.5 speed and it sounds like another voice was created. 1 with my voice at I'd expect it at 1.5 speed (quick but still deep voice) and then another overlay of a chipmunk voice echoing everything I say....
Unni speed m kon krta h httttt kuch smj ni aaya
When you are making a tutorial, why are you so fast?
How to inceease speed of video and audio for custom speed without affecting audio in open shot
I don't know if it's possible in open shot, you could try to edit audio separately (for example in audacity) and add it after edit as a workaround.
You have to extract the audio and add it as a separate track with 1x speed
Can anyone tell me why OpenShot is now playing at ONE frame per SECOND by default? And how do I change this back without a ridiculously inconvenient method like the one shown here? This is great for syncing clips, but I just want OpenShot to go back to playing my video clips at normal speed. That's all.
When i preview my video in the editing process, its somehow slowed down for no reason
can you explain what is framerate?? i can't understand
Frame rate is a video property describing how many frames (still images) are being displayed per second while playing the clip. You can check it in Open shot by clicking a clip in Project Files window: Rclick -> File Properties.
I tried speeding up a few clips using the "time" and then "fast forward" in a video.... but when I exported the video, the playback was just regular, not sped up. Any way I can fix it and prevent it from happening again?
I just tried to recreate the problem (i first used "time" method and then default one on the clip) and after export, it was sped up a lot but it messed up the end in my case (cut off). It appears that the two methods are not compatible and you would need to calculate desired speed/slow into "time" way, if you would like to use that one. I don't know much about open shot, but from my experience it gets buggy from time to time especially when you have too little ram (like i do, it just crashes mid export, preview is laggy etc.).
Sadly I tried this by slowing it down and it didn't seem to affect the clip. Thanks for the tutorial anyways though; I wish it would go back to the openshot 1 method where you could put in custom speed changes.
I'm sorry it didn't work, i sadly do not know why, i am no expert and simply shared what happened to work in my case
@@alephonya9390 Don't be sorry, I'm thankful you put in this much effort to begin with. It looks like you were able to help a lot of people here!
Can't explain how bad is this solution. Shame on OpenShot.
is anyone else as confused as i am?
Can you tell me how to set my play back speed to 1.5x?
Try using 0.66 as a multiplier in the method presented on video. To calculate multiplier, divide 1 by desired playback speed - in this case, 1/1.5 = around 0.66.
Time * WHAT? / framerate?
Time * multiplier, which is a number, for example 0.75, made from percentage of how many frames of the original video you want the new one to have. 75% -> 0.75 (75 * 0.100 = 0.75). Less frames will play faster, more: slower.
It allows you to speed up/down by a value nonexistent in dropdown menu in openshot, for example by 1.5x, 1/4x, 2.5x etc.
You can slow/speed up by default values (2x, 4x etc) by simply choosing from drop down menu in Openshot. Same as here but instead of Rclick - Time - normal - forward - 1x, use: Time - fast/slow - forward - 2x/4x etc. and in that case you don't need to mess with time property etc.
@@alephonya9390 how do i do it if i am speeding up a video and not slowing down a video?
@@yaboiedgar If you want to speed up multiply by values lower than 1 (0.5 for example) to slow down by values higher than 1. I updated description with additional instruction how to calculate the multiplier needed based on desired value: to calculate multiplier, divide 1 by desired playback speed - for example, if you need 1.5x:
1/1.5 = around 0.66.
0.5x (2 times slower) would be 2.
I think i might redo this tutorial to make it more straightforward, cause this one leaves a room for improvement!
Yeah, it might be good if you made a tutorial about speeding it up.
@@alephonya9390 when I tried to do it, the clip just went dark
I can't math help
WHY IS THE NO A FEATURE YET!?!?! IMOVIE AND GARBAGE WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER HAS THIS!!!!!
the music is annoying and say the steps theres some tips
too fast!! I'll look for something I can follow...
Too quick video
Yea it is kinda fast, at first i made it longer but you had to pause at some moments anyways so i ended cramming it up a little
@@247gaminghotline I'm not 100% sure, but it might be that openshot does not yet support changing audio speed of the clip (but i'm not certain). As a workaround you could try to separate video and audio, modify them individually and add audio after modifying speed. (in different program if necessary, audacity for example).
Too fast to follow.
openshot is so bad for that, tuto doesn't even work
I use a website lol its easier 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
