  • Using a reverse durso standpipe is one of the simplest ways to reduce splashing, gurgling, and bubbling in your sump. There are many variations and changes you can make to suit your needs but the basic construction is very simple.

You have a very nice idea here which inspires me. Along with your muffler, I also see a useful byproduct... a free air pump. I'm going to experiment how I can get that air tubing redirected back to the tanks to add air bubbles too. I'll have to play with adding more air and length to the water drop and maybe some kind of pressure control valve and/or air chamber but I'm excited to have a new experimental project! If it works, I will retire my air pumps and scale it... very appealing thought. Thanks LAR!

This video reminded me of Eli's video about the 30,000 liter aquarium that has the insane DIY filter that is on a level most humans could never come close to make let alone making it work exactly the way he built it to

Just using an air stone on the end of the hose from that Y will act as a muffler and for super cheap.

Hey buddy .im thinking to do 75 gallon saltwater but I don't have any experience with overflow .my tank is not drilled or over flow like yours .it's just tank without over flow. Any advice

Going to have to play with this a bit, I certainly have one or two overflows in my sump that would be great to better control the bubbles.

You need applause. You idea made my overflow totally quiet. So quiet that i thought somthing was Wrong. I use your Idea at 4.44 min.

I tried this "Reverse Durso" in my super noisy (noise coming from the sump side) Durso standpipe setup in my 75 gallon DT..........absolutely no difference in my setup...........so IDK how you are doing it.......maybe you got lucky? BTW, mine looks something like what you show starting at 6:00...but without the sock.....I hate socks! BTW, the version at 4:44 is different....I wonder which one you actually use

Use vinyl hoses, 90% of the problems come from these fixed setups, a PVC pipe dropping into the sump 🤦‍♂️noise central.
Try a few sizes of soft hose, curved into a bend going under the water, adjust within a few seconds, but single durso will always be noisy, better to have two outlets, one full syphon and silent, the other just an emergency

Save your self the trouble and buy a gate valve to control the flow going to the sump so it’s nearly silent. This video is way to complicated and not worth the effort
