- This... is Japan's cheapest car! It's a little Japanese Kei Car by Daihatsu, but oh boy is it a fun one!
This week we are driving well over 500km in Japan's cheapest new. Through mountains, fog, and more... let's see what Kyushu is like!

Extra Love to the NOTIFICATION Squad!! And to all of you that always leave comments and interact with the video... THANK YOU!! I am so happy to have you here!
Kyushu is where I want to go next in Japan. Very excited to see all of your adventures! Wish you had a tour plan that I could sign up for! All the best!
Ah that’s the car I did all my road trips in Japan. I’m missing it already. I’ve taken mine on the expressway for an extended period of time. It can take it. It can take a lot. I think I put almost 150,000 km on mine in 6 years.
hahaha such a gem!
Basic car basically is unkillable
Always glad to see you living your best life Norm, studying for finals right now but wishing you the best from the UK.
Best of luck on finals!!
@@TokyoLens Thank you !! :)
@@KamrunNagla Good luck on your finals!
How did you do on your tests??
That's me today lol. I have my finals tomorrow
Japan feels like a great country to road trip the country side, those beautiful mountain roads and it seems like there’s barely any traffic unless you’re in a larger town or city
I fell asleep watching some of your hikes, woke up not even two hours ago and here you are again! Awesome to follow along this journey :)
yaaayyy!!
I love the Japanese countryside so much, it's beautiful and just breathes character. Also pleased to say I'm pretty sure Australia still has the caramel popcorn oak milk! But they have a new flavour now too which is zooper dooper (a fruity-flavour icy pop), which is honestly a lot more questionable. Glad to hear you're enjoying flight school also and looking forward to your continuing journey :)
I just miss Australia so much
Can’t wait to get back!
@@TokyoLens I've got some contacts who can show you around a few airfields if/when you end up in Sydney 👍
I actually owned an older generation of this car. Its very solid ! I went on a road a 1000kms road trip on rough roads. Drove like a champ.
I love this type of video. I can’t drive so I always have the privilege of staring out windows on car rides and that’s basically what this video is. Yay for staring at all the things!
Hahaha love that view of things!!
Fun! Every car enthusiast should do at least one of their driving adventures in a cheap snotter like that humble little Mira. Also, back roads FTW in general.
The older-generation Miras, curiously enough, get used sometimes as low-budget drift cars by sliding PVC pipe over the rear tyres to make the back end slide around.
My first car was an 87 Civic. It had that feature of the key will lock the door, so no locking then in. No power steering 5 speed stick, and hand crank windows... I loved that car.
they dont make them like they used to
I actual use this car (it’s a backup car of my family in Japan) and have some extras like automatic door lock and the bester A/C.
It’s quite good. I drove to Nagano City, which is 250 KM from my city with not problems. It was even able to climb the mountains of Gunma.
Of course it’s not an aqua or so, but it’s ok for what it’s made for
You guys can't just leave with such a cliffhanger :(
But what a lovely ride, your scenery shots are always on point Norm. And can't wait to see what you and Dogen are coming up with!
When I visited japan in 2019 I drove from nikko circuit to mt haruna on backroads only (in a rental yaris lol), I drove through some amazing scenery and had the best time! Also drove from Narita to Fukushima city (via tsukuba circuit) doing the same, avoiding tollways, it took ages but was worth the time B)
I'm honestly in awe of your dedication to all the awesome drone shots. I would have been too tired to make all those stops along the way and factor in the time necessary for that.
Those drone shots of the Kyushu countryside were amazing, keep it up Norm and looking forward to your collab with Dogen :)
Road trips are the best when not rushed. Of course, now I want ramen and snacks ;o) Love following your adventures, Norm. I hope you have a fantastic week!
Glad I took this one nice and slow!
Chill roadtrip is also one of my goals when I someday get into Japan. Awesome video. :)
Very worth it!!
I really enjoy your trip, Japan is such a beautiful country. For example, there's places that look like we're in the future and there's a lot countryside as well.
I love all of your content so much. As someone who has never been able to travel to Japan, your videos really give me a view into a world i have not gotten to see. I am in the middle of a career shift and I'll finally be able to afford to save for my trip to visit and i cannot wait!
All the rivers and forests were beautiful! I also loved seeing the rainy weather. I love storms and definitely don't get enough of them where I live. Thank you for sharing! Stay safe!!
Glad to see it Norm. Keep going and never stop. Thank you for the experience
I don’t know why, but the Japanese countryside always looks amazing when it’s rain-soaked.
Couldn’t agree more~
It's videos like this that really make me appreciate just leaving the city and just connecting with nature, even if it's from the comfort of a car
14:50 these little tiny meet-cutes are magical and a big part of what I love when travelling alone
As long as it can get you from point A to point B! :D Love Mitch's reaction to the car. And really looking forward to the collab with Dogen!! :)
Fun stuff coming up!!
Your smile, tone in your voice and enthusiasm always makes my day better, from your point of view Japan looks incredible (those backroads has to be fun to drive through), I wish you the best, take care and can't wait to see what's up with the new SECRET project, lol.
This was a great video to wake to on a Sunday morning. I absolutely love watching your trips and this was so nice~
Can't wait to see what you and Dogen are up to!
it shows how much effort you put into audio selection and editing, it came out so good
Traveling through the countryside is a really special feeling IMO. When I'm on the Skyliner going from Narita to Ueno, just seeing the areas I pass through brings a smile to my face.
love your videos, they are always so positive and inspiring
Your videos always bring a smile on my face, thank you so much!
Dude the music you choose is always perfect. It always sticks out to me in every video. Super excited to enjoy this video! Also loving that little plane sneak peak at the start!
Thanks for the nice ride Norm ! the mountains are always so gorgeous! Very nice photography as usual, totally enjoyed it!
I think what keeps me coming back to Tokyo Lens videos is Norm's neverending thirst for life (and coffee). His videos are just full of curiosity and amazement at all Japan has to offer. Keep up the good work Norm, great stuff here!
awesome trip vid Norm‼︎ you are the best!!
Love your short stories always!
Success is yours!

Much love from Arizona 💜💜
Great video and beautiful scenery! Can't wait to see you fly!
Awesome video again! Keep up the good work 👍😁
The reference to the office was everything! You said "compact spot", I immediately thought of that line in the office, and then I was greeted with that little excerpt... bliss!
Awesome video, yet again. Can't wait to see some flight videos!
Absolutely amazing. I really like this kind of content, so thanks for showing this to us :))

I absolutly love these kinds of video's of car travel trough japan. It's those landscape views that just make me warm and fuzzy.

Lovely little car! The boys at Mighty Car Mods absolutely pimped one out so I've got a soft spot for them. Great to see you out and about mate!
Also, I love that you say "we"! It's so much more engaging and I genuinely feel like I'm on the trip with you haha
I absolutely LOVE small cars. Everytime I have to leave my car to the garage they lend me a Twingo 1 or 4 and I always get so excited !
This music fits perfectly to the video and a a whole, it's perfect to watch as a chillout after hard day at work ☺
Nice to have this to wind down after a challenging day/week. ✨🙏🏻 amazing video as always!

I enjoy these little trip videos you make. They are so fun. It was funny how you cut the video right as Dogen was about to give a spoiler!
Love exploring, thx 4 sharing :)
That ending! lol Such a tease! Can't wait.
Love this! Driving in Japan is one of the best things to do there ever!
You did an amazing road trip, the japanese countryside is beautiful!
I really love your videos! You really make me feel like I'm apart of the journey :)
New intro gives really awesome vibes! Keeps up the dream alive. Really love the road trips with cars so much awesome to watch them :)
Not really a new intro… that was just how my day started that day lol
But thank you!!
@@TokyoLens Ah my bad , still awesome start of the day, no coffee needed when first thing is flying lesson lol.
@@emiliyanaleksandrov2528 100% 💪 😊
Rainy Japan is so nice to look at. Also really nice to listen to
Hi Norm! Just wanted to say I love your videos. I appreciate that your content is clean, I've been trying to listen to less RUclipsrs that curse in their videos and your videos are some of my favorite to watch. Keep up the great work :)
So much gorgeous scenery and seen from so many different angles and “vehicles”
The fog on the road gives it a magical feel to it. Also, maybe all the ramen shops close on the same day, but third time is the charm here.
I thought the music really lined up with the foggy Mountain vibes. Nice! Enjoyed this one!
5:26 In this moment, Norm, you are me when I miss the end of barbecue season by a day at one of my favorite places here in Pennsylvania.
One of my comfort youtubers. Glad flying is going good. Love your stuff🤧🙏🏼
i love this style. It really feels like i was on the road trip along with you!
It’s always great seeing you living great in Japan
Your videos bring back wonderful memories of my 2019 trip to Japan.
As long as that drive was it looked really nice up in all the mountains! You've got so much on the go atm Norm and I'm excited to see what's next 😁
Love a road trip vid, it's like Google Earth but SOO much better, have to watch a few times, I like to pause the vid & look at the background, the houses, cars, trees. I think We had a great trip, despite the fog, hope I was a good travel companion lol
Aww man, this makes me want to do a road trip on the backroads!! I'm glad you were able to find ramen and coffee!! I can't wait to see your project with Dogen--you both make great content. Thanks for a great video Norm!!
I love road trips. There’s something just getting a bunch of snacks radio turned up and driving. Sometimes I like getting lost and finding new places.
Good morning! Thanks again for the great video! Just what we needed for a covid-y Sunday morning. It makes for some nice happy viewing before watching the Leafs guy react to Toronto getting knocked from the playoffs.
Also, good luck on the continued flight training. Glad to see you having a blast with it!
Thanks eh!!
Great video as always 👏👏
Norm - Thanks for making enjoyable videos. Nailed it as usual.
This makes me miss road trips! Tip, you can get a small coffee maker that does 4 cups. They’re tiny and easy to pack, and if you are like me and really need that first cup to get you going it’s totally worth getting one and brewing a pot at the hotel before you leave.
Awesome video bro
Your landing looked good! great video
I can't imagine going on such a long roadtrip in a K car. Gotta respect that. The scenery looks great so fresh after rain, haven't driven down south to Kagoshima or east to Miyazaki for a long while but seeing this makes me wanna go on a road trip again.
I always knew I was a cheap automobile. Not fancy, but definitely affordable. Thanks for the adventure!
wow 🤩 just 🥰 travelling the back roads with you .
I just love Kei cars. Glad to see you were having fun ;)
Such a cool video! Also, can't believe you fit into that tiny car! 😂
Driving around mountain roads is so fun!✨
great video and a happy surprise at the end :)
I'm excited for more Dogen collaborations
from boat to plane, amazing! Respect to you Norm!
I love the mountain roads in Japan, ever get tired of them. I have mostly gone up and down those roads in Iwate and some few in Akita and Kanagawa.
The Sakuraco box looks very interesting! Think I am going to sign up.
Norm is reaching new great heights and I all here for it
haha love it
Thank you!~
It seems that you intentionally didnt mention early on you are going to Beppu to surprise us with Dogen. The roads are so scenic, dark green mountains after a rain or morning mist is always chef's kiss. THANK YOU for making the effort to show it to us.
Ohhhh, that amazing food after a foggy rainy drive? Divine.
hahaha no watching on double speed!! hahhaa
