Did you end up getting in or not?
@@the_kill_code-ap3926 i got into UCSB, UCI, UCR. ended up going to NYU
Even though application season has passed for UC schools, wishing everyone luck!
ok, I’m so grateful I found your channel cause it’s so obvious that you put a lot of work into your vids and care a lot. also your personality is i vibrant and positive, so thank you for giving me seratonin, love youuu
Aw thank you so much!! I really appreciate it. Get that serotonin 😉
Whose watching 2 weeks before the apps are due
Thank you so much!! Your videos really helped me a lot in writing college essays.
Once again thank you for another amazing video!!!!
Thanks for watching! 🙌
Thank you Dyllen! Very helpful
Glad it helped!!
this is really interesting to watch! could you please do the top 20/30/40 schools as well?
Yes I have new vids coming soon!!
I don’t know how I got into Berkeley but I assume it was my essays bc I didn’t put test scores and I didn’t take much rigorous classes😳✋🏼 super crazy
Congrats! This data was from before COVID, test scores matter a lot less now!
I’m assuming you’re a minority
I have A’s, B’s, and C’s i hope my essays are good cause my grades arent the best compared to others with A’s😣
did you do any ap classes ?
If you don't mind sharing, what kinds of extracurricular activities did you have?
girl genius peeps got a sneak peek. love you Dyllen!
Yessss shoutout to anyone here coming from Girl Genius!
Thanks for all your college videos girly, super helpful! Also kind of random, do you think you could do a video on your eye makeup? I take my senior pictures soon and am trying to experiment with makeup looks to try and yours are always so striking! :-)
Thank you so much!! In terms of makeup idk if I'm ~qualified~ enough to do a makeup tutorial lol but I just put darker colors on the outer corners and lighter colors on the inner corners of the eye and then do a winged eyeliner!
oh and for this look I think I also did a little blue shadow on the bottom part of my eyes
I just wanted to spill a little secret about UC Davis or something I heard, I think if you're 10 or 15% you are guaranteed acceptance if no other UC accepts you :)
So the apps are due today, how yall doin? i have already shaved my head off of impulse
Thanks for the helpful video, I'm trying to get into UCI, do you have any idea why there is more of an emphasis on ec's and volunteer work?
Hey Dyllen! Your videos are so helpful. What’s the song playing in the background?
Thank you! The song is Roses, but the instrumental version :)
Thank you so much for the information, very thorough and helpful! I was wondering if putting‘undecided’ as the major will affect chance of admission?
i think it does
It depends. Most of the time it shouldn’t really matter since they understand not everyone knows what they want to do already! It would help make your application more cohesive if you put a major that relates to some of your activities. And also, sometimes putting a major that is really competitive will actually narrow your chances.
can you do schools that are also very highly competitive, but not ivy leagues? for example: usc, duke, johns hopkins, tufts, northwestern, and any others worth mentioning. it would be highly appreciated :))
Yes!! I have videos already made coming soon :))
Dyllen Nellis thank you so much! you’re the best
this video helped me so incredibly much in the application process, wanted to say thank you! i’m now choosing between ucsb and berkeley, any thoughts? most people would say berkeley because it’s a top rated public school, but i don’t think i’m ready for the individualistic and competitive nature, and the ucsb beach life with still great academics seems so nice. i’m very conflicted.
Congrats! I have a new vid on choosing a school that you should check out! Ultimately the decision is all about what’s going to be best for YOU, not anyone else :)
Alumni Salary and Scholars' Reputation
1. Berkeley
2. UCLA
3. UCSD
4. UCSB
So I’m a junior and this along with a stereotype video I watched before this is seriously making me consider applying for San Diego instead of Santa Barbara (I get fee waivers so I’m picking 4 UCs to apply to)
Do what you think is best! I recommend doing a lot of research into both schools on their official websites
State Residency seems to be only very important or important the more scenic the campus location. UC Riverside and UC Merced are located in deserts, all those factors are important to admissions but they have to be lenient on admissions because they're the least favorable of the UC's. High performing students will rather go to a CSU or out of state if not able to get into the UC of their choice so "lower tier" students also have to be admitted just in case the high performing students decline. A few years ago they admitted too many students at UCR and had to kick the "lower tier" students out based on how many priority students enrolled, it was on the news and they said it was an error to send the other admissions.
UCM is not desert but farmland. It’s rapidly growing so many of you won’t regret. Don’t let the school the major be your deciding factor. It is the finished line.. did you graduate or drop out?
The fuck Merced is not a desert 😭
Very cool and useful vid! I wonder what data sources is you analysis of these factor based on?
Thank you! It’s all from the common data sets published by each school
@@DyllenNellis Thank you so much for your reply! But aren't those data sets more about GPA, standardized scores, and geographical location? I'm curious about how you could come up with conclusions about how much the school considers factors like ECs, talent/abilities, personal qualities, etc.? No Offense!!! I am just curious about how you did this research and drew conclusions haha :))
So I didn’t come up with these factors at all, they are literally listed in the data! Section C7
@@DyllenNellis Oh really!? Would you like to provide me the link for those datasets, please? Thank you so much!
@@sylviayang6241 You can just search [School Name] Common Data Set and it'll come up! Every school has a different link.
Absolute genius
appreciate it!
Are these about the same for transfers?
still confused as to why davis asked me for a letter of rec tho lol
Can you explain how state residency is important? I am applying to UCSD from New Jersey. Will that affect my chances of admission and if so how?
I do not really know and it's hard to say, however, I looked online and it seems that it can either improve or diminish chances - perhaps privates favor geographic diversity while public schools prioritize students in their own state. But don't take my word for it because I am not sure!
Does UC Irvine considers recommendation letters?
Uci is my dream school 😩
How does the 'state residence' and 'geographical residence' rule work? I'm not from the US but I want to go to college there. If I'm not an american resident are there any chances that I can get into uc schools?
Yes there is a chance but you better enroll by tomorrow! the state residence is for tuition purposes, meaning if you’re a California resident you pay less tuition and if you’re not you pay more
Is this video made before or after UCs stopped considering SAT/ACT? Or rather, the time the data was sourced from
The data was from before! This is quite important to keep in mind :)
@@DyllenNellis Thanks
Is it required / recommended to fill up all 20 spots for extracurricular activities / awards ?
Nope! Fill in what you can :)
i have two questions. I am in 9th grade. I had A's and B's in semester 1, but in semester 2 two D's and all of them A's and B's (normal classes). Am I going get accepted in UC's if I get good grades in 10th-11th grade or 11th-12th? And my 2nd question is what grade dose UC look at? Someone told me that take summer school and make -up those 2 classes that you got D on so they can replace with the old one.
They only look at your 10-11th grade GPA. You need to stop slacking off though.
Yea for gpa calculation I believe it's 10 to 11th grade. But yes retake those classes cus for UCs you need at least a C in every class to be eligible
You need letters of rec for the uc schools?
I don't think you do for the main application. I didn't submit any. There may be some exceptions though if they reach out to you!
If you kinda fail your freshman but retake the course and get above 4.00s the other following years. Will UCLA accept?
College admissions are based on numerous factors so you can’t necessarily at if you will/won’t get accepted!
for the comment about racial and ethnic status, i believe that no schools, even private, in CA can take it into account due to some laws
This was data published from 2019 so it definitely could have changed!
What is meant by talent/ability?
For example: you are a really skilled artist and showcase that through an art portfolio!
If only one of my parents is an immigrant but the other one isn't, do I count as "first generation"?
first gen means that your parents haven't graduated from college
does UC even ask you if you are a first gen? Where?
I would assume it’s on the application somewhere, but I’m not entirely sure
That's inaccurate to say state residency doesn't matter for UCLA. They are a public school and they are required to take a certain amount of California residents every year because California residents help fund the school with their tax dollars.
how are recommendations considered if the UCs don’t accept teacher recommendations?
Good question. I think it is only in certain cases in which they request students to submit a letter of recommendation. I never submitted any letters but I have a friend who did and was admitted to Berkeley early!
Dyllen Nellis Thank you!!
It seems like all the ucs are difficult to get into
Im pretty sure merced had 90% acceptance rate for 2021, though covid probably had something to do with that
You're so funny. Honestly, I wish you'd do art videos. You do know people like art videos, right?
Thanks so much! What kind of art videos were you thinking? Like tutorials?
@@DyllenNellis Yes! You should check out Frederic Chen's channel if you haven't, see what he does. You're so ridiculously talented but you never show that off.
@@zacharyertengrass892 thank you!
Since UCs are test optional why are standardised testing put as very Important tho
Data has not been released for 2020 yet so it’s a bit different!
tests were required until this year
Wish me luck I applied 😭
Update: I got early regents acceptance to UC berkeley WOOHOOOOO!!!!
How did I get into Berkeley but rejected from UC Davis :/
OVER QUALIFIED
Arcis arc Finally someone smart
did you do ap classes ?
Still relevant for the 2022 year admissions. More than a few accepted at Berkeley were either rejected or waitlisted by UCLA, UCSD and UCI. My daughter and many of her high stats friends did not even show interest to apply to Berkeley, while UCLA remained their dream school.
The fact that not considered is green and very important being red rather than the other way around is really brother me lmao
Oop yeah I agree with u there
@@DyllenNellis I loved the video tho thank you smmm
