7:19 I think the idea behind the password function was to allow you to use your physical cards so to speak, not necessarily for optimal deck building purposes. I mean, this was still the nascent years of yugioh as well as mainstream internet, so those codes weren't necessarily readily available unless you had the cards. It was probably an incentive for them to include the 3 promo cards in there so that you could also play them in-game via the password function.

    • @hotdogmanful

There was a strategy that had all the cards in it. But I'm not sure it was official Konami

So I had to check my modern deck… they still print codes to the cards… I wonder why, it’s not like you can use them to unlock cards on master duel. Curious.

Worldwide Edition is so similar yet so different in many ways:
    - The AI has been improved (to a point. They can still be dumb AF occasionally. And some Duelists actually have different AI than their counterparts - Mokuba plays everything in attack position - Pegasus actually plays around cards in your hand as if he can “see” them. It’s great)
    - There is a story of sorts which you need to beat before you get the postgame tournaments and the feature to turn the banlist off.
    - The card pool is bigger (obvs)
I put hundreds of hours into Worldwide as a kid.

  • @JJMomoida

The one YGO game that's always stood out to me from back in the day was Yu-Gi-Oh! Worldwide Edition: Stairway to the Destined Duel. This was back when I was living in Ecuador and I cannot recall if the game released while we were right smack in the middle of Battle City arc or what... but I remember having a lot of fun with that game. I remember that, as far back as when I was a kid, I wanted a YGO RPG game where you'd walk around and battle opponents. Worldwide Edition... wasn't that, but you know what, it still kinda gave that feeling of being in the tournament. Opponents would show up here and there, and as I recall, there were even timed events. You could join special events or tournaments on certain days of the week, etc... This kind of thing made it a bit more immersive.
Forbidden Memories was awesome. I confess I never really beat it, but I had a good time with it. I liked the story and that was pretty much the only thing that urged me to continue. Gameplay-wise, I... well, I didn't like it. By the time I picked up a pirated copy of it, my friends and I were already playing the game by its official rules, so this whole "throw cards together and fuse em" thing felt weird to me and though I understood how to play it eventually, it was never something I liked as much as the real deal.

I just wanted to compliment the editing of this video. Usually you just use simple animations of cards scrolling (not bad at all, I think it's perfext for the channel) but seeing how well the audio blended together really showed that you have a lot of talent editing that doesn't get shown very well in most of your videos. I think I've heard you mention you edit your talking a lot and honestly it's done so well it's hard to tell.

Loved this game as a kid, and I still have a real soft spot for it. I've had this game really glitch out on me though a couple of times. On two different occasions, somehow Kaiba played a card and then a card left my hand and ended up face-up in my Spell/Trap zone. The first time it was Harpie's Feather Duster, and the second it was a piece of Exodia.

Eternal Duelist Soul was owned by my sister but I played it regularly. It was also my first introduction into the TCG, but ironically, we actually got this game before Season 2 came out in the states. Being a beginner, I was still locked on the first tier of opponents and didn't know you could unlock others until Battle City started airing, so I was surprised to see Espa Roba already in the game some time after seeing his debut in the show.
I've also encountered some peculiar oddities with this game I don't I've seen others talk of. For whatever reason in a few duels, whenever I had managed to get Black Luster Soldier on the field, Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon would automatically place itself on the field as an Equip card to him, as if it were trying to emulate Dragon Master Knight from the first Virtual World episodes, even though that card didn't exist yet.
Also, it's possible to get the God Cards, but you can't put them in your deck.

We all know duelist kingdom is bullshit now, right?" I'll always love this game and seeing it now just reminds me that Konami hasn't put as much care and effort into a Yu-Gi-Oh games in a long time outside of Duel Links. Yeah the animations and graphics got better but it all feels so...sterile and flat. And the music sucks in that latest game.

In my opinion the best Yugioh video game is World Championship 2011: Over the Nexus. The 2011 Format has a fairly diverse card pool, the game is well coded for a Yugioh game at the time and the 5Ds story mode with a free roam world and so many unlockables is just perfect.

Gen 1 Yu-Gi-Oh video games were awesome, and some of the most creative use of the IP. When they stopped making spin off games, and only made OCG/TCG adaptations from GX onward (except for "Wheelie Breaker"), some of the series magic was lost. I would love to see "Capsule Monster Colosseum 2" using all 6 master duel eras.

fun fact: if you use certain spell cards (eg: poly) on witch of the black forest/sangan, you can get the effect twice in the same chain, effectively getting two searches

yes! This was my first yugioh game. i got it that fall in 2002. I remember in 6th grade seeing the ad for it in a sales paper and asking my mom to get it for me! my class mate who was a total know it all about yugioh was saying i needed to play dark duel stories first cause eternal duelist soul was "advance rules" i think he was just jealous i got it before he did lol

Damn that eternal duelist soul intro music. Nostalgia big time.
I bought every game for yugioh since forbidden memories and stopped at gx games.

I remember playing this game so much that I was the only person in my friends group to know that beating someone enough times had them eventually challenge you to to a second match immediately after.

I love Enteral Duelist for GB. I played it a ton as a kid and I’ll never forget my very first game I was Exodia’d first turn. I was Super confused lol

I would be down for more game related content from time to time. It's entertaining and has the potential to be very nostalgic for a lot of people like myself

I had this game, and I'll never forget the most awesome win I ever manged to get.
I was playing against the "Rare Hunter" who used an Exodia Deck. I knew he had 4 pieces of Exodia in his hand, and he was down to 1200LP, but there was a Witch of the Black Forest on the Field (in Atk mode) and nothing else.
Luckily, I topped decked a Dimension Warrior and I had Riroku in my hand. So, I was able to strike him for 1200 and Dimension Warrior exiled the Witch to prevent a tie.
One of the best wins I ever got.

Random fact that main menu cloud screen like the background was also reused in Metroid Fusion in the intro cutscene

Yu-Gi-Oh! Ultimate Masters: World Championship Tournament 2006 was the first Yugioh game I played and it was pretty fun as well! Id highly recommend the 5Ds games on the DS though as they actually had turbo duels in the game and were really run!

I played the hell out of this game as a kid. Any long trip I'd have my gba, a pokemon or two and this. Many times I went back to it on emulation on my phone

My experience with Old-school Games is those Power of Chaos PC Games I played those games a lot and there's a weirdly active Modding Community so that's cool, but as a Kid I mostly played the 5ds World Championship Games, cuz it makes you part of the Anime which is really cool.

This takes me back what a great game. I just played it again to completion not too long ago. Something about it always brings me back. I wish Konami would release more games like it. Where your vods at? I didn't even know you streamed.

I'm pretty sure i had a copy of this, but I do remember having a copy of Stairway To The Destined Duel, Forbidden Memories, and Duelist of the Roses and 2 copies of Dark Duel Stories, one for me and my brother. One thing in common in all YGO video games is that your starting deck SUUUUUUUUUUCKS. Without abusing the password system, it's gonna take forever to get a halfway decent deck.
