- Yooooo, it's been ages, how is everyone??
I'm sorry for the long long wait for new stuff, this year has been really difficult (as I'm sure most of you have experienced as well). Things are looking up again and I've been working on this cover on and off for about 2 weeks in total, getting the tone right etc.. or close to at least. I hope you enjoy, enjoy my lil fuck up in the weird section of the song and let me know what you think :)
I'm entering my third year of uni so my time might be strict but I will try my best to get new content out and use my proper set up now that I'm back at my flat!

Many many many hours of playing around and experimenting went into this, here's a breakdown of the tone.
Main guitar sound is a plugin called Amplitube 5, gives you real room tones basically. I used two sets of Ampeg style amps, one for the room tone and one for a closer, tighter tone. This song in particular uses a lot of the room tone as the main bulk of the guitar, especially in the chorus. Cabs I don't have a lot of the expensive packs so went with two 4x10, seemed to do the trick.
Pedal wise: used a pedal which is basically a Boss SD-1 drive pedal but with the drive really low, literally nearly off but the level turned up and the tone at about 1'oclock.
Also used a copy of a Boss GE-7 equalizer, took the low and high frequencies out, boosted mids. Added a compressor pedal. Finally on the master bus used a tube compressor, again boosting those mids.
Interms of mixing, this was a lot of work. The main stuff I used was soundtoys. Used the Decapitator to add some more grit. There's about 5 or 6 different EQ's sculpting out the sound getting rid of un wanted frequencies. For the fucked up part, used Little Alter Boy for the pitch shifting on Homme's guitar and on Troy's too as well. With Troy's I also used my Whammy DT pedal, 1 Octave up on the whammy and then at the end of the fucked up walk up, boosted that mother with shift up, octave plus dry.
This is the most thorough break down of the tone I've ever done, so hope it helps in some way!

Great playing and great tone! I don't think I've seen anyone on RUclips get that close to the fucked up tone they've had on the newer records (Songs like evil has landed, fairweather friends, etc.). Love it

Thanks! Ah man this was easily the most time consuming tone wise, there’s so much EQing and getting the right room tone and things.
I use two main plugins, one called Amplitube 5, it simulates real amps in real rooms and then I use Soundtoys for all the mixing, EQ’s, pitch shifting, distortion, compression etc.. then I also used my own pedals, an EQ pedal that kicks in for the solo and also a Whammy DT for the really fucked up guitar parts later on. I don’t even know if I could explain what I’d done because it’s literally just hours and hours of playing with EQ’s and reverbs and stuff, so glad it’s done and out 😂😂
