- A spinoff of 'Dallas', 'Knots Landing' (1979) ultimately outlasted its parent show, running 14 seasons chock full of personal drama, crime, corruption, and more. An impressive cast that changed over the seasons helped retain viewer interest over the long run, but despite the show's popularity only a few seasons have been released on home media. The opening titles, with music by Jerrold Immel, went through many changes through the years; here's the rundown:
• Original recipe, with aerial shots and zooms, plus end credits.
• Redesign has titles scrolling from right to left. This lasted six years, longer than any other style.
• Season nine brought an artsy opening that also slowed down the theme and made it sound more sultry. End credits included.
• A beach motif was introduced in season 11 with seashells, sand castles, and seagulls.
• Throwback: The scrolling credits return for the final seasons, now with fancier graphics. The sequence ends with a shot of the sand castles.
