    good solid brand , well worth repairing. looks like the alternator needs a good clean out having been soaked with diesel oil. will cause deterioration of slip rings and brush performance as a result of thick insulating film on the contact surfaces, which can cause avr failure.

    Hey Mr Star...
    has you gen set experienced a start normal but starves out on fuel?
    I've cleaned and checked injectors for spray pattern...no air bubbles...seems like I'm getting fuel and it will hit and run up in revs and just die afterwards and will do this repeatedly. initially i had smoke but now the exhaust is clean even during start up...i'm concerned it could be the pump or govenor..??

    Great video! I've got that same generator in my RV/Bus. I was having an issue keeping in primed (or so I thought). After replacing a bad fuel pump I can't get it to start again. I've tried priming the system, but I can't get any fuel to come out of the injector pump. I've cracked the line going into the injector pump and get good flow, but nothing coming out of the pump itself. It all ran fine before losing prime last fall. Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot the pump before I have to remove it? I know the last fuel pump was bad so I'd be surprised if the injector pump is bad now too. Thoughts?

    strange and kind of cool how diesel engines can run backwards. thats an awesome generator.

    Hell yeah! You saved a wad of money with this deal man. You melt your tire plugs as a rule of thumb? I've never seen that done before.

      I just like to watch stuff burn :)
      I always did them like that. Seeing spinning your tires could pull out the plug if they are long.

      Exactly. Detective work. A lot of people mess with the pump and these things run forever. Sucks they ranked on it good and broke stuff though. That "rack" on the pump with the chewed pin, that can probably be cleaned up with a file. Kubotas and yanmars usually run forever if fed clean oil and fuel.
      Check out the main bearing cap setup in the bigger inline kubota/yanmar engines, I've never seen a much stronger setup in any other engine. The "bearing caps " are as big around as the counterweights , and the whole mess slides in one end of the block and fits in machined holes.
      Reason I say look at the bigger ones, I'm not too familiar on that boxer setup. It may have a similar design.
      Btw my yanmar has 4300 hrs still chuggin!!

      ***** does the out of town workshop not have its own electric power, will 6.5kva be enough power. stuff like welders and compressor are very hungry.

      zonda power It's a full 50 Amps , So Yup she will power everything I would ever need it for.
      My compressor will be diesel. and ill have a small 120V one.

      50 amps @120V sound loads but over time demand starts adding up, well they did for us.so no hydro at the shop,we were like that at the beginning, about 3yrs using generators.upgraded a few times as equipment demands increased, ended up with small ex hospital 45 kva 3 phase 415v to run 3 phase mig welder, compressor, mills and lathes etc for machine shop & build bays . bit the bullet in the end & paid a small fortune for 3 phase install, still have generator rigged for standby,one of the joys of being in the sticks having power outages. one of these days going to build a windmill generator as we get loads of wind.
      thanks for the reply.

    Really if you think about it why fix a part when you can get a brand new one for under $100.00, with the new one you also know it should hold up a lot better.
    I had a auto shop teacher once he rather use heat and try and save old bolts then charge the customer a few extra bucks and use brand new hardware, even though in most cases the heat stretches and weakens the bolts, that is one of the biggest arguments I always had with him spend some money and you know it will last.

    How did it manage to run backwards?

    • @starpuss
      @starpuss  9 лет назад

      That happens all the time on small diesel motors when they spin too slow (low battery) and they kick back.

    Hey StarPuss, you know what some of my friends would say? Use a bigger hammer, if that doesn't work invite your buddy over then both of you will swing a hammer at it the same time. LOL LOL. (job support) ha, ha.

    • @starpuss
      @starpuss  9 лет назад

      What's weird is there is no marks on the pump from a hammer lol.

      @PermianBasinDiesel 9 лет назад +1

      ***** More than likely it developed a small hair line crack in the casting then broke off, they then found the broken piece and removed it, not thinking anything about it. I agree, the injection pump pin doesn't look like it is correct.(I don't know what happened to it, it just broke.) (Just to cover their butts.) LOL. I hear that all the time man.

      Also the flywheel side injector is bad , But ill just order the parts I need and repair it and see how she will run.
      Good chance they did not know why it was not running right so they just started to pull random stuff apart lol/
