  • When our 10 - yr old dog Hooch was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease in December of 2019, he was given 3-6 months to live. After extensive research we decided to make 3 life changes for him for as long as we had left with him.
    1. We transitioned him to a diet of 100% human grade dog food
    2. We eliminated tap water for filtered.
    3. We significantly increased his exercise.
The results of these simple changes made a HUGE impact on us and Hooch!
After only a few short months he had moved into stage 2 kidney disease indicators and at our one year recheck he showed absolutely zero signs of any kidney disease markers in his lab work. He had lost all of the excess weight he was holding on to before and he was healthier and happier than he had been in years!
This easy homemade dog food recipe combines lean ground sirloin, rice, fresh vegetables, hard boiled eggs, and tender herbs for a healthy, vibrant alternative to traditional dog food that has given our dog a new lease on life!
This video is in depth and super detailed, if you would like to see this recipe come together in a shorter video watch this: • How to Make Easy Homem...

    6 cups cooked rice
2 pounds ground lean beef, cooked through, fat drained
4 hard boiled eggs, peeled and diced small
3 carrots, shredded or thinly sliced
1/4-1/2 cup minced fresh parsley or 1/4 cup dried herbs ***see my Homemade Dog Food Seasoning Blend post for a full list of herbs to feed your dog.
3 tablespoons of olive or safflower oil
For this version we also added in frozen wild blueberries and frozen green beans.
Combine all of the ingredients together in a large container and stir to combine completely. Store in the refrigerator in-between feedings.
The amount of food you feed your dog each day varies by weight. Our 80+ pound senior dog Hooch eats 4 1/2-5 cups of this food each day and our 40+ pound puppy Rebel eats 2 - 2 1/2 cups of food twice per day.
We go through a batch of this food pretty quickly with two big dogs, which means I am making a double batch at least once or twice a week! However, this food can be individually portioned out for smaller dogs and frozen to store for longer periods of time than a week. Just thaw the amount you need when you need it.

I've been feeding my 14 year old dog a home made diet the last 3 years and a raw diet just before that (which he became fussy with) after having a huge fatty tumour removed from his shoulder. He doesn't have to be on hardly any of his pain meds anymore for arthritis and people are always amazed at how old he is as he's doing so well. I'm definitely not feeding dry food or canned dog food to any future dogs I own it really is magic x

I’m pulling out all the stops for my 15 y/o husky. She has early kidney disease, the vet gave me no advice on what to do next, only to come in for another blood test to check it’s progression. For a senior 20kg female husky I boil
5 x small potatoes in skins or rice some days,
    Carrots, green beans, peas
Any meat, (variation necessary), everything all in the one pot. I save the water from it for a broth. No seasoning whatsoever. When serving I add 1 tsp of eggshell powder, sometimes a boiled egg in there, alternate days I put sardines or tuna, I add salmon oil and I add Dog Vital supplement oil. Mix it all up. She loves it. She’s been thriving since being really ill 4 weeks ago 😊

She suddenly stopped eating, and had a horrid smell, which is common with advanced kidney disease. Her decline happened so fast. The veterinarian warned us that she was in final stages. We are devastated, but also know that we have learned a lot, In regards to Providing a healthy diet for our furry babies. If I could stress anything to anyone, it would be to make sure your dog or cat has a routine blood pressure every year. Her kidney disease was a result of chronic high blood pressure, for probably years. It not only affected her kidneys it also caused thickening of the left ventricle of her heart. Watching the video, gave me insight to what I need to do for the fur baby that remains with us today. There is no doubt that preparing food for your dog is the best possible diet you could give them. I spend 15 to 20 minutes twice a day prepping breakfast and supper for my son's German Shepherd. It's a labor of love, because I've lost 3 dogs to cancer and I'm sure it's because they eat "DEAD" food, it's called Kibble. Now I use a little Fresh Pet chicken loaf with cooked chicken livers and 3/4 cup of dry food that sets me back 60.00 for 24 lbs. I don't want my dogs to just survive, I want them to prosper. His meals are served warm, just like a fresh kill.

Yes, the best thing is cooking for your dog. As far as eggshells, you should keep them in the refrigerator and the ones that are already made in powder, you should use them in three months. Also oil becomes rancid so you have to put it in the food ,the time of feeding .Use coconut oil it’s gonna give you all the omega as well. For animals for best absorption and digestion we need to put our veggies and fruits in a food processor or blanch veggies or cook them.
I wish Hooch the best of luck ❤

  • @jumpercable20

I"d avoid any seed oils as they are inflammatory, I use either olive oil or UNprocessed ORGANIC coconut oil. Seed oils are not healthy for HUMANS either.

    • @lisasternenkind6467
      @lisasternenkind6467 11 месяцев назад +1

      Exactly!!!! 😊
Refined seed oils and refined vegetable oil don't only cause inflammation, but also the leaky gut syndrom!
Since I went all carnivore myself, I only use Ghee or white porc bacon for my dog and myself. Also carnivore fat helps digest meat.
Eggs provide your dog with 10 of the 22 essential amino acids he needs. In addition, eggs have a great number of very healthy vitamins. So not using the yolk is in fact not such a good idea.

I dehydrate the egg shells in the oven at 200° for about 30-45 minutes, then put them in a coffee grinder, it makes a fine powder, very easy. You don't really need to dehydrate the egg shells just rinse and dry. I just give my dog (80 lb German Shepherd), 1 tsp of powdered egg shell. Not difficult at all IF you love your pet.

When I went to cancel the subscription they offered a nutrition packet for me to add to my home made food and it was only about $30 for nine weeks. I used that for my homemade recipe to add all the vitamins and other minerals I may be lacking. It was a game changer. They even provided recipes for my dog based on the portion and needs she was being fed with the subscription service.

      Hi Janice!
Oh my goodness - I’m glad you found the video helpful. My understanding is that venison and other game meats are pretty high in phosphorus which is something you want to avoid when preparing meals and treats for a dog with kidney disease. We opt for ground beef because it’s lower in phosphorus. I would definitely consult with my vet regarding how much deer meat Madisson should consume. I hope this helps!

Hello I wanted to ask you about your dog food topper seasoning blend recipe, I’m curious if it’s absolutely necessary to use freeze dried herbs or if it’s acceptable and safe to use the herbs that are in the seasoning aisle ? Idk if my local store will have all of the freeze dried herbs needed for the recipe and it’s hard for me to get out of town too often so I’m hoping that I can safely use the seasonings of these herbs if I cannot find the freeze dried ones. I home cook for my 3 small dogs and just recently made the switch to homemade diets for them and finally did what I had been wanting to do for the last 2 years and was apprehensive about making the switch not knowing what to cook for them that would be safe and healthy for them, then I came upon your homemade dog food recipe and immediately switched them to a homemade diet and no longer feel like an awful mommy to my babies every time I feed them! I know that I am prolonging their lives and giving them a better quality of life by giving them food that is freshly made and I know exactly what I am feeding them now rather than hoping that the ingredients that are listed on the back of a kibble bag are actually what is in the food and it feels amazing and now I know that I am being the best mommy that my babies could ask for and it feels great to know that I have made a decision that will keep them in my life longer and keep them happy and healthy a lot longer. Thank you

The dog would need supplementing as there wouldn’t be enough in the food alone to meet it’s daily needs. For me I add stuff like oils and supplements serving it up as my dog likes her food warm, and if I batch cook and heat some up, salmon oil etc stinks the place up, so it’s better to add that when it’s time to serve it instead of during the cooking process.

Hi there! I do have a question. Are boiled eggs better than any other? I enjoyed your video and thanks so much for sharing all the valuable information.

I'm sorry, 8 cups a day for an 80 lb dog is WAY too much! Poor dog must be pooping like crazy.

Why to drain fat? Fat is not a protein and with a limited protein where the rest of calories can come from? From fat and carbs. For dogs it's better to come from fat, so dog will not to loose muscle. If you use lean meat there will not be lot of fat, why to drain it??

I'm assuming that since you are promoting your recipes to the public on RUclips you've had them analysed to make sure they are balanced if not people are probably better off feeding a high end kibble
