I love the Engl sound. I bought a Savage 120 MKII about 6 months ago. So far I have only used a TC spark Booster in front (for the same reasons you say, too much amp gain makes it too mushy) but i would like to try some OD's at some point. Great demo! I loved the song you wrote for it! Always killer riffage from you!
Awesome intro track Euge, I remember back when I was shopping for a tube amp head again I was caught between choosing an ENGL or an EVH, I chose the 5150 III 50w 6L6 head and I am so happy with it, but I gotta say, this ENGL sounds super "full" and "chunky." I also have a Bogner Alchemist and Marshall DSL just because I wanted to get something different sounding from the EVH, but this ENGL, it sounds so good! The "Bad Boy" still holds its own though, sounds a lot more "cutting."
I got my invader 2 since almost 3 years. Im playing the Most time the channel 4 for modern Metal hi-Gain Sounds for Rectoish Sounds. Love this Amp. 😎👍🤘🎶🎸🔊🔊🔊
@@EugeValovirta230V I´ve got the Invader ONE. There, the 3. Channel is pretty modern sounding.(To me it sounded when i first heard it it, like the late 90´s Metallica/Hetfield Live sound) The 2. Channel is very classic with lot of mids and classic Rock sounding. The 4. Channel is a complete different Animal. Tons of mids but in a "weird way". My guess is, that Horst Langer (The ENGL designer) made it especially for single coils, because the mid range is a bit weird.
I liked the Engl "room sound" as the 800 sounded very harsh by comparison. But, I have to rely on your recording experience for what Amp/settings are best to have it sound good in the "the mix." It's a pretty drastic difference in EQ. Thanks
Yeah I actually had the 800 dialed to be really presence heavy since before shooting the video I was recording some really heavy downtuned stuff and I needed the guitar to really cut through the mix. So I forgot to dial the presence back to my ”normal” which is actually a lot too but not quite as much as I had on this video 😊. But in general tones that may sound a bit harsh alone works just perfectly in the mix 👌😎.
Hey Euge may of missed it but did you try anything with any of the presence or other Built in Eq on the invader to "unblanket" the tone at all? And maybe something on the back?? Marshall does sound killer here dimed.
Great play through! I kinda have the same opinion of the Invader I & II. They are generally darker voiced amps with rounder low frequencies. Insane amount of gain. They have a huge amount of tone shaping ability, especially with that Sound Wizard module. That module makes a big difference. It seems like it was made to use that module or an array of pedals for further tone shaping so it’s not so hi-fi right off the bat. I prefer the Savage series much more to the Invader. Much more defined and in your face. I think ENGL made the Invader II for tone tinkerers as opposed to straight plug and play.
Thanks! Yeah I had quite a hard time to get it right and I guess I didn’t succeed 😁. I’m kinda plug & play type of guy and don’t have interest in tinkering / tweaking but just wanna play 😎.
@@EugeValovirta230V same here Sir! I used to love a million options; had an Invader 150 back in the day. I have some awesome tweaker heads, but my go to has been a SLO 30 & JJ Jr. Plug and play, amazing tones. I’m definitely going JCM800 & Plexi down the road too. 🤘

Thanks! If I get my hands on one then for sure. I’ve played with a 900 SL-X several times and it’s pretty much like a 800 2203 but four preamp tubes so it has a bit more gain on tap. The Dual Reverb 900s are ok but the SL-X is my favourite of the different 900s 👌.
