I have a question. My printhead slams back and forth like it does not know where it is at. I see that there is a plastic strip off one side inside of the printer. Is that some sort of positioning reader for the print head? If it is, how do I go about putting it back on? It's no longer under warranty.

I have an HP Officejet 4620e. I have the "Carriage Jam" issue. There is no paper located on any of the gears, etc.... I have tried everything and the message still shows up in the display and it will not allow me to print. I am mechanically inclined and was about to take the printer apart however I can see the path both the paper and the carriage takes and both are clear. I can hear the carriage move when I reset. I have reset the printer several times as well as reinstalled the ink cartridges. It almost seems as of it is a driver glitch or something.

You can also do a Google search for "bud04237" which will bring you to an HP Support document: Resolving Paper Load, Grinding Noise, or Carriage Stall Problems which will provide you with instructions on how to resolve it yourself. This is an option if you are not under warranty

***** Ok. Of course I did that and followed all the next steps trying to find a solution. My 'Carriage Jam' Error continues. What I was asking is if you know the reason why my carriage don't move on this step. I think this is the 'source' of the error that don't let me use the printer. Is this the first time, for you guys, that this situation happened to someone?

+Tristin Futch That is a good sign. So please try a power reset of the printer by following the steps below.
      - Please unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
      - Please unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
      - Please wait a full 60 seconds.
      - Please plug the power cord into the printer and into the wall outlet. It is important that you plug the printer directly into a wall outlet and not a power bar/power strip/surge protector.
      - If the printer does not turn on by itself, please turn the printer on.
      - After the printer has completed its startup routine, please try a test print.
Are you getting any error messages after that?

Useless the stupid 6950 just locked out everything. There is no firmware setup on the mongrel so printing a page is a waste of space. The HP Smart App is beyond useless. Having it on for any time after an hour is useless. HP has the most rubbish printers and emulation and has maintained its position at the bottom for decades. Never again.
