DIY knife parting tool from an old table saw blade

In this video I make a knife parting tool out of an old table saw blade and a piece of mahogany. This tool is used to part off thin pieces of wood when woodturning.

When riveting make a rivet head plate by drilling a hole in a piece of three eighths steel plate the size of the rod stock you are using then use a counter sink drill bit to form a counter sink throat like a funnel
To form a head first lay your head plate on vise insert the rod through the hole with about an 1/8" above the plate and grip in vise and then use a dall peen hammer to form the shoulder of rivet
Countersink the holes in handle scales
To used the rivet place through the handle and place head side down on anvil and leave about the same amount protruding as you used to form the head using the ball peen hammer peen the head down using strikes around the rod to peen the head into the countersink and tight to the scales file flush and done
headless rods will not hold even when epoxied

Curious question. Why didn't you use one of the carbide saw teeth for the tools cutting edge?

Actually I want to try this at some point. But I wanted to make the classic knife and be able to sharpen it multiple times. I was a bit skeptical on sharpening carbide teeth.

Thank you. Nothing special it was a nice material to work with. Not too hard not too soft. Just place your design in such a way so you don't waste too much steel from the blade.

Thank you. I wanted to he able to sharpen it for a long time. And also I don't trust that the carbide tip will stay there for ever. So, in my mind this option was never in my intentions.
