- Another awesome Osborne Bros performance on the 1984 Fire On The Mountain TV show. The Nashville Songwriters Foundation has certified this classic song as the first million-selling single in country music history.
on top of their amazing music and skill, i just find this guys so likeable...so glad i finally, belatedly found them....RIP Boys...
My dad sang this all of the time. That brought back so many memories.😌
This is my favorite version of week of he old 97
That mandolin solo at the opening was very nice
Please turn the sound up on this.
He will never return... but ride forever under the streets of Boston...the man that never returned.

Well...She was comin' 'round the corner 'bout 90 miles an hour
When the wheel on her bicycle broke
She was found in the grass with a wheel up her ass
And her kidney playin' Dixie on the spokes
@@popev3887 That is a different song, using the same melody. Whoever wrote the song about the MTA lifted the melody.
Read the story many years ago in READER'S DIGEST. SIM WEBB was the Fireman's name . He died in 1935, I believe. He often said;"only reason I'm alive Casey threw me out the cab door..........saved my life."
That was a different wreck and song. Steve Broady was the engineer on the old 97, which crashed in Danville Virginia in 1903.
I'd love to hear little Willow do this!
Henery Whitter recorded this song in 1923..

Heresy it may be but it's my belief that Sonny was a more advanced banjoist than Earl. Superb technique & 'ear'.
I think the world of Osborne brothers, but no one can beat Hank Snow on this song.
Good version.Remember though, the protagonist was SCALDED to death and died HORRIBLY.
I love the song, thought it was from Johnny Cash. So one version of him is my favorite. Who is the original from?
this is a real event, september 27th, 1903
