    He wasn't mishandling Curlin at all. I've worked around racehorses for years and they can be very nippy, especially the stallions/colts.

    IKR. He (the horse) wasn't even doing anything wrong. Let him gently play with the lead instead of whacking him for it. Seriously. On another note, he's looking great!

    Oh goodness everyone! You dont know about stud management! Biting is a NO NO so yes he is being yanked on because if he let him get away with biting, it could get to the point where the stud could rip skin off (seen it myself, a QH stallion). Secondly, he was not slapping him but was tapping his sides to put away his penis so that the stallion would realize that it is not breeding time. Many stallion think that putting on the halter is breeding time and get VERY antsy and can get dangerous.

    Right before the groom first jerked the chain hard, Curlin did reach over like he was going to bite him. It happens fairly quickly, so it is hard to catch, but it did happen.

    Some stallions are different than others on how they handle. Some are more patient, like Secretariat, while some are more violent, like Man O War. A groom that lets a stallion get away with whatever is endangering anyone that handles that stallion... breeding stallions are EXTREMELY dangerous when not given the proper training. Anyone can make a nice stud a devil to work with just by petting it on the muzzle and letting the stud play with hands. It's stallion handling 101.

    From reading the comments, some of you understands what its like to be around a stallion but some of you would not last a minute and just talkin because you got a mouth........a stallion is a very dangerous animal and ever so often you got to remind them that your incharge

    The handler is whacking him because he is displaying breeding habits, hence the biting and Mr. happy. If Curlin were to get out of control because he he is a stallion with people around it would get pretty messy. A good stallion will settle down right away, but Curlin was being a little difficult. You have to understand stallion like Curlin can be very dangerous if they don't know when behave. The handler wasn't hurting him at all.

    the A.#.S.h#le groom who keeps slapping Curlin should be kicked out of that barn. Why would the owner tolerate that??? Curlin deserves far better! Eddie Sweat never beat up Secretariat - Sec loved& respected Eddie. Really crummy behavior on the part of the groom, IMHO.

    If they had any brains they would teach the horse the difference when he is going to breed a mare and when he is not all he would have to do is use the chain only when he is breeding a mare

    For Gods sake what an awful way to treat a world class stallion or any horse for that matter, turned him at the end of the stalls walked back quietly stood for the handler was jagged yet again in the mouth having previously been slapped down the side and jagged earlier I do not want any excuses for this it is just moronic and abuse of this beautiful animal.

    it bothers me how the groom keeps yanking on the lead, and how he hit Curlin on the side. It wasn't a very hard hit, but still. if i was Curlin's owners, or the stable manager i change his groom if he is Curlin's norm. caregiver...Curlin wasn't even acting up, and for a stallion around a small group of strange people acted just fine.

    The 'handler' is a JERK! These aren't 'love taps!' I love Curlin & the 'handler' should give him some RESPECT! ALSO, jockeys who FEEL COMPELLED TO FLOG their horses in order to win are D/BGS! No one whipped the cr#p out of Secretariat....Sec managed to do quite well. Case closed.

    He didn't deserve to get yanked like that was unnecessary he was just playing with the chain he isn't doing anything wrong poor boy

      They play with the chain, you let them play with the chain because you think they are just playing with the chain, next think you know they are ripping a chunk out of you. That's stallions.

    I've noticed horses being treated this way at auctions also. If it were my multi-million dollar investment, somebody would be getting bitch slapped....and fired.

    Poor Curlin...didnt do anything wrong

    • @DoubleDogDare54
      @DoubleDogDare54 5 лет назад

      "Poor Curlin" was "dropping", which is why the handler gave him a couple of slaps with the shank. That's only allowed in the breeding shed and studs are corrected for it when they are elsewhere. Too dangerous to allow them to do otherwise.

    Get real people, those little love taps compared to the abuse they take from a jockey's whip during race-day. The Great Curlin is my favorite horse ever and I can appreciate what that handler had to do to calm him down. Y'all the ones that could use a whipping for being so over-reactive!
