Thanks for the video, I always love seeing the difference between new editions, Aquire has a LOT of them.
I love Aquire, I was super lucky and found the really awesome 1999 version at a thrift store for under $5 in near mint condition. I was going to flip it, but I watched your old review, decided to try it and LOVED IT. Its not going anywhere :)

Great video. Just bought the game and will be dry brushing it. Tips for people thinking about painting the board: 1) soak/wash plastic board with dish soap (i.e. Dawn) to get oils off the board. Let dry totally. 2) LIGHTLY SCUFF just the raised lettering with 150 - 200 grit sand paper (1 or 2 quick light passes) [can skip this step, but makes better bond for cheap paint] 3) Use a big brush 1" to 2" and drybrush (hardly any paint on the brush) across the whole top of the board. This will be very quick and get paint on some of the raised board edges. Make sure you cover the #s & letters (you could just small flat 1/4 inch brush and just do letters and numbers). I'm going to do Gold or Silver acrylic paint for my copy. Don't worry about messing up the board because you can just clean off spots with water that you don't want as long as the paint hasn't dried. 4) Let totally dry and seal with spray matte varnish.

Good intro to this edition. A year later, this edition of Acquire can be picked up for $20 or even less. It's a great game. A guy in one of my game groups bought it and we played a double header. There were a LOT of changes made in this edition. Just about every numerical parameter has been tweaked, not just the max company size. They also added a 3rd seat bonus, and apparently dropped the mechanic that created a ghost shareholder in 2 player games? If we're having 3rd seat bonuses now, would we need more ghost shareholders? :P
My friend took a white paint pen to his board and it made the number really pop. Still couldn't read that gawdawful font, but at least lighting wasn't an issue.
After that session, I hopped on eBay and scored a complete 1970 edition for $15. It arrived yesterday. Not only is it complete, it's in mint condition, looks like it was never played! I waited to long to get my own copy, got a great one, and it's staying here a loooooong time :D

Hi Joel - could you tap into your newly acquired painting skills and dry brush the top of the board to make the letters and numbers pop?

I would totally paint those letters and numbers, a little withe paint and done. Two hour project at the most. But it's good to know before buying. Thanks Joel

Would love to see a followup video with the board numbers painted. I know Joel has paint and brushes!

I wonder why they changed the number of spaces on the board. Cheaper to produce because of less pieces?

Ya. I have no idea honestly. As far as I know, the board has never changed shape until now.

I believe it's out already. I know a few people that picked it up. Maybe it went out of print quickly?

Great review. Shame about the board, but like you say, it can be helped with a little effort. I'll be dumping my 2008 edition for this one, pronto.

Thanks to this review, i could avoid buying this edition. The board and the font on the blocks look really weird.

Horrible font choice for the tiles. The board is impossible to read without painting. Rule changes. So frustrating.

I know that "funnily enough" is technically acceptable, but it sure sounds weird to my ear. heh
