One of the best non-action episodes in television history. Peter Dinklage's acting in this episode is phenomenal, especially during the 'confession' scene.
I agree, now that you mention the "no action" part tho, it's insane to think that Succession delivered so many top tier episodes with no action in any of them
I wish he won Emmy for this but was up against Aron Paul for Breaking bad last season in the second half which is probably why he lost. Both marvelous performances.
I love Oberyn's retort to Pycell about his stock of poisons - such rambling.😆 I had also forgotten that Pycell brought the necklace in as evidence - thanks for including that scene in the edit. "...and your joy will turn to ashes in your mouth." and you say "Yeah, Cercei, you deserve it!" YES YES YES! The look on your face! Yes, a most excellent episode and reaction.
The cunning mind of Tywin Lannister. He didn’t know if Tyrion killed Joffrey, quite frankly he didn’t care. Joffreys death provided him with an opportunity to get what he’s always wanted. Jaime out of the Kingsguard and becoming Lord of Casterly Rock, fresh heirs to carry on the Lannister name, and Tyrion either banished to the wall or dead.
There are like five of the best episodes in television history in this season alone, including this one. One of my favorite episodes of game of thrones and of tv in general. Great reaction as always!
I'm 90% certain that having Jaime resign the Kingsguard in order to save Tyrion was EXACTLY what Tywin was planning and hoping for all along. That's why he immediately agreed, and immediately laid ALL of the terms and steps that would come next. He'd just been waiting for Jaime to say the words.
Kinda who cares, but it's common misconception he did, firstly this episode wasn't submitted for an emmy, secondly he didn't win that year, Aaron Paul did
It's so, so satisfying how Tywin thinks he's getting exactly what the wants the most - Jaime as his golden male heir, and Tyrion out of sight - only to have Tyrion snatch it away from him by demanding a trial by combat.
Not many people I see react to Theon not going with Yara think of it this way. Theon knew that if he was caught escaping with Yara and Ramsay got to them first, he would have done even worse to Theon than he already has.
Little pockets of the North are still occupied by the Iron Born from the time of Theon's invasion during the War of the 5 Kings. From Roose and Ramsay's conversation a few episodes ago, the viewer is told that those Iron Born are mostly concentrated in Moat Cailin. The Boltons can't enter Winterfell and claim their seat as the Wardens of the North until Moat Cailin is cleared out. Ramsay's plan is to take over Moat Cailin by using Theon to his advantage. Once the remaining Iron Born are flushed out, the North is effectively Boltons'.
Jaime giving up his kingsguard position and become the heir to Casterly Rock is exactly what Tywin wanted. Tywin manipulated Jaime into doing that by threatening Tyrions life.
Tyrion's speech gives me chills and makes me tear up EVERY SINGLE TIME !!!! definitely one of the best characters in all of fiction, not only the GoT series
Out of all the fifty something odd emmys GoT won, it's crazy that Peter missed out on an emmy for this scene. Aaron Paul won it that year for Breaking Bad I think. Which would be well deserved, but fuck man, give Dinklage all the emmys for that performance. What a scene!
Think about it this way. Little finger had Liza kill John and it wasn’t even really the catalyst for the war. It only made them suspicious, Bran finding Jamie and Cerse in the tower was the ignition. Then little finger use that opportunity to send an assassin and blame Tyrion causing Catlyn to capture him. I don’t think his original plan would have failed, but it would not have kicked off the war as fast as the opportunity of sending an assassin to kill brand and blaming a Lannister.
That was enough for Tywin to not sentence Tyrion to death because that’s what Tywins plan was. Get rid of Tyrion next best thing is the wall, separate Jamie and Cersei, and have Jamie take his rightful place as heir. He knew all along Jamie would do what it took to save Tyrion.
"Peter Dinklage received international recognition for portraying Tyrion Lannister on the HBO television series Game of Thrones, for which he won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series a record of four times." He won 4 emmys. One was for this scene, basically.
Woohoo was hoping an episode would drop today 😊 I’m lying in my bed I’ll with the flu also, had to cancel my birthday party tomorrow 😢 so il take an episode of this to cheer me up 😂
It might actually be a good thing for Jaime to marry and father children named Lannister. (How pointed was that? Are you sure you don't believe those rumors, Tywin?
Welcome to the best season ever, and the best episode ever. The next 4 are no joke either. Some say the next episode is one of the best too. If you won't get a tear in the eye like Oberyn, there's something wrong with you.
9:55 - yes, his father was against needless killing and was overruled, but his father CHOSE to live a slaver city where no matter how kind he is, he's still living off slave labor. Talisa was in the same situation and left Slaver's bay as soon as she was independent. So this guy's father is not completely innocent.
My thoughts as well. You knew there was someone out there freeing slave cities and yet you did nothing. You saw her arrive at your city gates and yet you still did nothing. If you were truly against the practice then how come not a single slave protected or vouched for you. Then you’re just like an armchair activist at that point; protesting slavery but still enjoying the riches and benefits it offers you. I still can't believe the nerve of Hizdahr calling it a "crime" when it's legal in your city to crucify kids. Slave or no, they're still kids and they died slowly and painfully, and for what, to send Dany a message not to mess with Meereen? Yeah no that is just morally reprehensible in any time period. Hizdahr should just be lucky he left that audience unscathed. Ned would've stripped him of all noble status.
@@BhBc8f8 Well, I still think Dany should not have crucified the masters without at least a hearing. Mass vengeance tends to be messy and unjust. What if one of the crucified masters is a spy from former slaves that has been send to help others? What if one of the masters is a slave that tried to hide his identity? What is one of the masters is only a guest of the city, dressed in the same fashion and he gets butchered while being innocent?
@@ScarlettM Trial? What is this 21st century America. This is a medieval setting, when Stannis invaded KL he intended to execute Joff, Tommen, Cersei and Jaime (if he could get his hands on him), same way Robert and Ned executed the Greyjoy's. There was not going to be a trial. Like i said the Masters had the chance to leave. The sun was rising when Dany made her speech, meaning she gave them at least 12 hours before the invasion the next morning. Plenty of time to come to your senses yet they chose to stay, so at the end of the day you have no one to blame but yourself. And True this was vengeance not justice, Dany isn't the Attorney General or an elected democratic president, she is a Feudal Monarch with the "divine right to rule" and acts only in the interests of her constituents. Hope you heal up fast bro 🙏🏽 This episode is an ABSOLUTE BANGER, Tyrion court scene always gives me chills. That stare down between him and Tywin to end the episode is EPIC
That was really Tywin's main motivation in going along with the show trial. He didn't kill Joffrey, but in Joffrey's death he saw an opportunity to get Jaime out of King's Landing and have him start a family, aka the conversation they had at the start of the season. He calculated Jaime will fold under pressure to save his brother. It was all going along so smoothly until Tyrion threw a wrench in his plan and now it's going to be an absolute insane whirlwind of a ride.
Drogon needs a butt whooping. The thing is though, you can’t inconsequentially incarcerate dragons in this world, because they will literally shrink down and waste away. They’re like sharks, they have to have near limitless space and food.
Essos is the the whole other continent, there are city-states there like Braavos and, for instance, Pentors, where me meet Dany for the first time in 1x1, now she's far east on Pentos, in the are called Slaver's Bay (Astapor, Yunkai, Mereen).
ah there you are! glad you're feeling better, and what a great one to dive back into! the slimy kings landing politics here are having their moment in the sun. i know it's a while off, but with how much you eat up those scenes and the dragons...it's gonna be gas to watch house of the dragon with you lol

Peter killed it this episode. It doesn't get much better than that as far as acting goes.
Davos is one the best characters in the show hands down. You couldn’t ask for a better friend.

you are going to love every episode left this season. They continue to get crazier and crazier

17:38 It´s actually worse, Tywin was also aware of Mance Rayder upcoming invasion to the wall so he figured he would die anyway.

I thought Yara would knock Theon out to take him and kill the dogs when they came out. Not happy with the writers just having her retreat like that.

Jaime isn't able to fight well yet.

The trial scene just made tyrion one of my favorites in the show when I first saw the scene.
Love this episode but c'mon, little silly with Ramsey with zero armor taking on the Iron Born. Then they run from dogs? They had weapons and shields
I think it’s his level of overall confidence he used to intimidate them. Stuff like that has happened in real life.
Yeah just for realism sake I hate the way that Ramsay is portrayed this episode
Yeah but then they would have to fight both soldiers and dogs in enemy territory. no thanks
The scene with Hizdahr zo Loraq is one of my favourite in this season that has so many good moments. An underrated character imo

Honestly, I think this is the best episode of the entire show.
Why should Tommen recuse himself? He's not any more biased than Tywin.
I still can't believe Shae would do that. I loved her, but then I felt disgusted.
Tyrion's speech is satisfying, but it's a dumb move anyway.
Jaime walked right into that one. Jaime was his goal all along, not Tyrion.
A lot of people hate Shae for this, but she would be killed if she didn't testify.
Next episode has my favorite scene in the entire series 🙏🏽
