"Beyond the sands of time
Within the realm of the mind
There is a land where life and death
Are ruled by steel
Out of this land five conquering heroes
Arose to make their stand
Throughout their journey
They stake their claim
That they are the warlords
By the name Medieval Steel"
This must be the single greatest introduction to a band in a song since the beginning of time.
Right? I love it!
Awesome
Speaking of a European fanbase, I remember back in the early 90s a friend copied the EP on a cassette and I was immediately enchanted. And I don't know how many people asked me for copies of that cassette. It was very hard after all back in that day to get new material from overseas of bands of their stature, let alone news. So we all knew Medieval Steel and all wondered as to what might happened to them. Then sometime in the mid 00s we heard that they'd be playing somewhere in Germany and we mostly thought it was a money grab, but apparently it wasn't. Though Dark Castle was released from a local label (I'm Greek) I didn't really catch wind of it. It was the deepening of the financial crisis after all and picking our faces from the mud was a priority and sadly music wasn't. Then in 2022 I run into Gods of steel, and I was really surprised at how solid and great the album was. Now you say they're preparing a new album and I'm super excited about it! A very good band, totally deserving a chance and I'm happy they are finally getting it. Another great episode on your part!
Apparently there was this Greek kid interviewed on TV during the national high school exams (baccalaureat?) or something and he was wearing a red shirt with Medieval Steel on it, just like the EP. And it got lots of people talking about Medieval Steel again.
@@LarsOfTheMohicans I know both the guy and the video. The video was made viral as "the most indifferent examinee" and it's something that went viral, meaning we're talking mid 00s at best. The tape trading era I was talking about was around 15 years before that. The only reason that guy knew about Medieval Steel is because they already had achieved cult status in Greece. Nope, that poser had nothing to do with it. I can remember tracks from the EP being played in metal clubs before 2000.
Every fan of True Heavy Metal should know this band. 🤘
I’m sorry to say I never heard of them as a teenager but they are good.
Yeaah, I agree with you Sir !
Doesn't make them good lol
Medieval Steel!! Cuts you like a KniiiIIIiiIIIiife!!
Literally the only song I heard from them before this video from a random RUclips playlist
Their debut EP is so soulful
I have discovered so many awesome bands because of this channel. There are so many lesser known bands that were awesome! Thank you.
Battle Beyond the Stars is still a Banger to this day!
Yep, if not for the legendary title track, this would be their best song!
Medieval Steel playing Medieval Steel at Keep It True is one of the most legendary moments of that festival
I got a medieval steel patch on my jacket
Sadly Gods of Steel wasn't picked by any label yet and getting it outside US is hard mainly due to usps horrendous shipping rates.
These boys were tight
Omg! I remember listening to this when me and my friends were on a weekend D&D bender!
Man this video was timely. I was just listening to the new singles from the upcoming album this morning.
The debut is one of the greatest Heavy Metal EP's ever released; not one bad song on there! It's a shame they weren't any to follow up with a full length record back then. The Dungeon Tapes will be as close as we get to hearing what that will sound like.
Underrated band and an underrated channel! Great work as always Metal School 🤘
Oh hell yeah!!! Medieval Steeeeeeeeel 🤘
I have never heard of them and I look forward to learning about them. Thank you.
I think it's fair to say that not many people have heard of them.
I thought it was the Medieval band that appears on one of the Metal Massacre compilations. But these sound pretty good. It took them 30 years to release an album! and another 10 to get the second! I'm going to look for them to do my homework. Thank you Teacher!
Gods of Steele, probably would have came out earlier, but pandemic and line up changes. They have had some of the best Heavy Rock musicians in the Mid South on all of there albums. New album thats coming going to be great , as they have taken time to write and spend lots of time in the studio. , I have heard .
I met Medieval Steel when they played a small show at the Delta Drive In(They no longer showed movies there) just outside of Sikeston, Missouri in 1984. They opened for Cobra. I saw them again in Cape Girardeau, MO in 1985. Both times the stage was a trailer bed. Medieval Steel was one of the many influences one for what I do now.
Nice BC Rich Warlock axe right there. This American band had a great fan base here in europe OH YEA they did. great share as always. i was at the Keep it true fest in 2013 in Lauda-Königshofen, Germany. there a few vids on YT of them playing. Good Metal Band!!!!!!!!!
Now this is a band I have not thought about in a very long time. Really well done. And those two guys from 7:42 to 7:51 are immortal.
Definitely a hidden gem, thanks for the introduction.
Very interesting to hear their story - thankyou!
Fricken THANK YOU for making a video on this band! Medieval Steel the song is an amazing heavy metal song that should be up there with one of the greats of the genre! It really gives me big Manowar vibes all around! ⚔️🤘🏻🔥
I gotta go check out Dark Castle and Gods of Steel as well! Got to get brushed up before the new album comes out this year. Thank you for reminding me of this band; I haven’t heard them in a while!
Similar to Warlord. That would be another great band to cover. Love your videos! Keep up the amazing work! We appreciate your hard work. Great job! Thank you and God Bless!
I'm not that on board with them, but I have some friends who are totally devoted. Their signature song is burned into my brain just from my mates blasting it on repeat. As a side note, that name Fire Choir does have a ring to it, honestly.
Great Work!
There are so many great bands on your channel!
The only thing missing is Hammerfall and all my favorite bands can be found here!
I would've been all over this band when I was like 15 or 16. Fates Warning,Manowar, Queensryche, and any band remotely in that Euro metally vein was where my head was.Cool video
I never knew of Medieval Steel until now. I feel they are vastly underrated and could have gotten more and much opportunities. Now this band looks interesting to get into as I like their kind of theme and this 80s heavy metal feel and vibes.
Very underrated group, love their work. Need to listen to their new albums.
Wow, this is pure power metal at its finest!! How did I miss these guys. Thank you for making this video!!!!
Outstanding classic band that should've been huge. Ghost from the Battlefield and To Kill a King are metal classics, whether anybody's heard them or not! Great video! Keep up the outstanding work.
So happy that this band is getting more recognition. They really should've become more notorious in the 80's but were held back by the record label's mismanagement. Their style reminds me of a pretty unique mix between Manowar and Rush. If they'd do more tours or metal festivals, I would love to see them perform live.
Great video. I've never heard of Medieval Steel, but I will now check out the ep and albums. Keep up the good work, flying the flag for Metal 🤘
gods of steel is their best work, no weak track there, pure heavy metal
Great heavily underrated band
Don't think I've ever heard of these guys, but the music is solid. I like it! 👍
Awesome! Never heard of them. The singer has such a powerful resonance!
Btw this channel is kick ass!🤘
Dang! Too many metal bands to count! Thank you. It's cool, that they are from America.
I don't remember these guys..... Interesting.
Never heard of them. Sounds pretty awesome. Another great video.
EDIT - at 14:03 - that is Steve Crocker (pictured) on bass!
Killer video! I've always wondered about Medieval Steel. Never heard them until now. Thanks, Metal School, for more great content!
No commas where used in the opening monologue to Medieval Steel 😆🤘🏻
Viking Wishing Well just came out a couple months ago. Horns up!
Their performance at Keep it True is simple the most epic moment in metal history
Medieval Steel is what Steel Assassin, and Axehammer tried to be
These guys were solid. I remember I bought a Hit Parader magazine in late 1985 which had a full-page ad with all the new releases on Megaforce Records and this was one of the ones they depicted alongside others like Blue Cheer, Grave Digger, Metallica, Raven, Lone Rager, Manowar, Overkill, Anthrax, TT Quick, etc. ⚔🛡🏰🤺🐉
TT Quick!!!! Now theres a band that should be on this channel.
@@careful__Icarus Yeah they were cool! I hope he does Jag Panzer also. 🤘🤘
I still have the original 12" vinyl from the demo recording
Yes!!! Medieval Steel had such amazing tracks.
This is a sign for people to not only listen the main track and dig the rest, it's very much worth it!
Thank You.
Love the obscure ones!
Great video as always..You should check out Sniper from Japan ( them SOLOS man ), Chariot from England and Fisc from France..Awesome job man..Keep making us informed
I think its great that you're putting all these obscure bands out there for people to discover. It seems we have similar taste as i know of all these bands but its still awesome to get some historical content.
Nice work! This is one I somehow never heard of, even back in the 80s when I scoured every metal magazine I could to find new bands to check out.
Keep Up Your Good Work!!!
As always great videos.
This is the best channel on RUclips.
Nice change of pace. You should cover more bands with smaller discographies like Ostrogoth, Acid, and Hellion.
I do love me some Ostrogoth
Good band.Great video.Thanks.😄👍🤘🤘
Excellent!
love this band to death
My God that singer is great!
The first band you've covered that I haven't heard of. Thanks for the upload!
Medieval Steel might just be the greatest metal song ever written.
Right?? Couldn't agree more. It never gets old haha
Don't tell me Joacim Cans from Hammerfall didn't listen to this band.
i completely forgot that this band existed, thanks for reminding me
Awesome work again!
Nice profile pic 👏👏👏
Wow! I think I found another Holy Grail of Heavy Metal! I've never heard about this band. And I love it already! Thank you, Metal School to share this sacred knowledge with us ! =)
YES!
This was a good one. I never heard of them and had no idea that a decent metal band could come from Tennessee. I am downloading all of their releases to get a better listen. I hope its as good as the clips that you played.
Have the original cassette of the EP it's one of the Grails in my collection even though I'm not sure if it's official or unofficial even though it looks professional
Nothing about this band looks professional lol
i love Medieval Steel! many thanks for the great video and tribute!
Medieval Steel should have toured with Virgin Steele on what could've been called "the medievel virgins of steel" tour.
Definitely the best band I discovered over last several years. And don't disparage "The Dungeon Tapes", it is the peak of the classic Medieval Steel from before they started flirting with modern metal. Comparing the album to the 1985 demos really shows that 20 years of polishing can make shining jewels even out of seemingly dull pebbles.
An underrated gem and totally deserving of an episode.
Great work man!
The whole show from 1984 used to be on RUclips. I guess who ever uploaded it has deleted it since. I remember this video with the field and highway background, and the "whoops" mic drops moment on "medieval steel" song. Surely someone has this saved and can reupload it.
Man, I knew I wasn’t crazy haha. I could have sworn there was more from that show available too. Wonder why it got removed.
Yeah. Someone has it, for sure. This was the early 2000's. DVD-rip stuff. I have no contacts or connections to that time or scene, whatsoever anymore. But maybe you can dig up something.@@MetalSchoolChannel
@@Torso. Oh wow I didn't know somebody deleted it. I have it saved I'll upload it soon.
@@Torso. I finally remembered my old metal accounts email haha. I got it uploaded now.

I really hope the inspiration for track three, "Battle Beyond the Stars" was Roger Corman's movie of the same name. It would be so perfectly 80s.
Exciterrrrr!!!
I had never heard of this band but they are pretty good.
Lizzy Borden? Could be interesting...
I gotcha, bro

It was awesome! Thank you.@@MetalSchoolChannel
I love this channel! I'm always impressed with your content as well as how you find these bands and do all the research. Top notch stuff
Checkout Fatal Violence, far more epic only album
One of my ALL TIME favorite bands, easily one of the most underrated ones for sure
Never heard of this band but hearing Bobby's singing from then to now he sounds virtually the same which is freaking awesome.
Medieval Steel sounded like the 1979 debut self titled Saxon album, if that album was a little bit Heavier. Saxon changed after the debut. Speaking of bands that sound like Saxon , a Spartan Warrior episode is long overdue.
It's never too late to release your first and second albums.....
OMG!! They look so much like Manowar I can't help but wonder of the guys were influenced by Medieval Steel.
Medieval Steel should get some respect. 😀👍🤘🎸
The Medieval Steel song is metal in its most true and bodacious form
Everything about the Medieval Steel song gets me going all the time and is a great workout song. Definitely a motivator. Thanks for showing love to an extremely underrated band. You have outdone yourself again as always Brother! Cheers!
Medieval Steel is one of the single greatest metal songs of all-time. Its one of those special songs that really evokes a mental picture of its subject matter. I've had some of my very best workouts to that song and no shortage of PR's powered by it. I'm not ashamed to say that I imagine the exploits of my first Dungeons and Dragons character as I listen to it. Also: they have some AMAZING, AMAZING live performances of that song at Keep it True festival. Some of the VERY BEST live performances I have ever heard, Iron Maiden-Rock in Rio level stuff; the audience is in the palm of their hands.
Fantastic band.🤘🏻
The dayz when awesome stuff was released by the minute.
ok , what magic hat are you pulling these bands out of??? are you a warlock???!!!
Lots of forgotten bands from the 80’s check out Exxplorer and Cerebus
Please make a Video about killer....or Anvil....or thor...or picture...Please
Picture is on my list for sure!
Please do one on vicious rumors they're coming here with Raven soon and I don't know much about them haha, Love the channel!
Vicious Rumors with Carl Albert on vocals
@@matthewsmart5905Ruffians or Villain 😊
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Please do a video on Eviction!!!! I would love to see Draxxis done!!!!
Sadly They never reached the level again, as they did on their debut ep. The debut EP is in my top 5 alltime favorit albums
🤔That's alright man', that Tank video was long man'', LoL had to stretch it out over several days... remember most of us have ADD so it's hard to watch such long videos'''😉😁😆🤣
The longer the better
Ehhh, These guys are great🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼 Once again never got the notification… Is the second volume of ‘5 great 80s metal act with only one album/EP gonna be uploaded here or is that just Patreon exclusive?
Yeah suffice to say I’m still the only one wanting another Nordic metal band to be covered right yeah🤔😂🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
