Bravo ! One can see how much the muscles of the right hand work hard. The concentration is extreme. And the pace is slow. Because there is definitively no marge for error. It is beautiful.
You did real good with this - I have the Wild Gears and I am just getting started with it. Love the fact that you can make larger designs like this one. I hope you make more videos showing this.
It was very nice. I just wish you would have put in your video or in your notes or somewhere the number of wheel you were using. Most people will mention their supplies. Other than that it was a pleasure.
Wow, that's so mesmerising and so neatly done. I'd have slipped somewhere with that! I know you mentioned that the design file is free to download from Ponoko, but all of the links in the comments take me to a 404 error page 😢
A similar inside design can be made using Spirograph. The 150/105 ring, and gears 24, 36, 48 and 72. I haven't tried to recreate the outside pattern exactly, because I would rather have something less net-like.
Hi, I wanted more details about your free spirograph designs. 1) What is the largest size hypotrichoid you can create using set 3.180 and large 260 rev? 2) Do you have a manual for set 3.180, 4.shapes and large 260 rev ? 3) Are the wheels/gears compatible with regular spirograph sets? 4) Can this be used without pins or spiroputty? You are doing a great job. Thanks.
Hi Abhipsa. I don't really know what the largest dimensions are (probably about the size of an 8.5x11 paper or maybe a bit bigger), and I don't have a manual. I really just created these for personal use, never intending to sell. People are free to use the designs, but I'm not in a position where I can offer 'customer support' for them, if that makes sense. If you want that, I'd suggest going with Wild Gears. To answer questions 3 and 4- The wheels and gears are compatible with the original Spirograph sets and they are designed for use with map pins. I use cut down pieces of foam board as a backing to stick the pins into.
Oh, it's no bother. Sorry if it sounded that way! It would be a huge amount of work to create a manual, and I just don't have the time to do it unfortunately. Honestly that's probably way more work than the designing of the gears. I do have a spreadsheet somewhere that has a lot of the ring and gear combinations, and how many points they make (there is a simple formula to figure it out). It's a huge spreadsheet and I had it printed on 11x17 paper, lol. To do pictures of each combination would get totally out of hand though, because there are 1000s of combinations.
The spirograph sets come with a chart on the inside of the top cover that shows how many points you get with each ring/gear combination. There's a mathematical equation to work that out for any size wheel and ring and I'd made myself a spreadsheet for my home-made set :)
@@snarlla Okay. Thank you for this information.. This question comed to my mind after only watching several youtube spirograph-drawing video's (no explaining tutorials) and not using myself the spirograph device. Okay, the ring seems to mention the number, based on a mathematical equation. Yes, that seems to my very logic. Tomorrow I go for my first spriograph drawing 🙂😊
I love watching this - Are you using WildGears? I have those and they are so cool to make the bigger designs such as this. Your creation is so nice !!!
Maybe try the Wild Gear sets. The link to the site is on this page which gives more info about them: spirographicart.com/wild-gears-spirograph-grownups/
I don't sell these, but my designs are free for anyone to use on Ponoko. You simply have to downoad the designs and have them laser cut at Ponoko. This is my showroom there www.ponoko.com/showroom/PZ00fcjU/all
I can't remember for sure. I think it was around $12-13 per 7" sheet, then plus shipping. It was years ago I ordered these, so their prices may have changed.
Bigger than this? I don't know. You could consider doing small ones and having them enlarged into wall art maybe. I saw a video of a guy doing spirograph with spray paint with a gigantic wheel, but it looked to be home made and the spirograph didn't turn out very nice looking :)
Hi... U said you used Stabilo fineliners... Do they bleed to the back of the paper? Also does the paper the or spoil when you draw with these pens again and again at the same point... something which happens when using a spirograph?
Leigh Whitaker does the paper year or spoil when you draw with these pens again and again at the same point... something which happens when using spirograph?
Ah, I don't know where those pictures are. It was on a different computer. From Ponoko, they basically come as an acrylic sheet, about 7x7, and covered with brown paper that is stuck to the acrylic. You can peel the brown paper off. It's some sort of covering to protect the acrylic when it is laser cut as far as I know. The paper looks a little burned where the cuts are.
Hi Karla! These are a set I designed myself and had cut at Ponoko. I'm not selling my set, but the design files are free for anyone to use (if you read through the comments there is information of where to find them and how to get them cut through Ponoko). There is a set for sale called Wild Gears that you can search for, which is also on Ponoko I think.
@@snarlla Yeah, I can definitely understand why you wouldn't sell your set. I can see anyone creating their own, but since Hasbro registered the trademark (and maybe holds the patents, I don't know), I can see your not wanting Hasbro to sue you (for not licensing your set and paying them royalty fees).

I'm hesitant to sell them because Wild Gears is already selling a version. Even though I think I designed these before Wild Gears came out, just for my own personal use, I don't have any interest in getting into any sort of legal issues. My files are free to use on Ponoko though.

Hi... U said you used Stabilo fineliners...
Do they bleed to the back of the paper? Also does the paper the or spoil when you draw with these pens again and again at the same point... something which happens when using a spirograph?
ABHIPSA HOTA they can bleed through a bit, depending on the paper. The tips hold up well. Mine usually start running dry before the tips spoil.
Leigh Whitaker does the paper year or spoil when you draw with these pens again and again at the same point... something which happens when using spirograph?
ABHIPSA, it really depends on the paper and the design. They are not as likely to tear the paper as ballpoints.

What are the pins that you use to keep spirograph atached ?
And when finished do the pins leave the visible holes in the paper ?
