These Kilchomens are all amazing! My husband replaced all of these recently. I like the dryness from the fino cask. Ashy is great and I didn’t want it to be too sweet - a risk sometimes with sherry calling. I’d be very please to have a dram of any of these as a lover of heavily peated Islay scotch. The cask strength is a belter beauty!! I don’t use water. James is a lovely friend! Cheers!
The Fino was dry, but I did think there was a gentle sweetness to it as well. Especially when coming back to it after the Cask Strength Machir. Both excellent!
I have never had Kilchoman. Yikes, there's an admission! Drove all the way to Chatham during the panD to pick up a Machir Bay, but instead reached right past it to grab the Jura 18 (which was quite a dud, though it's vastly improved with air and age...thank goodness). I do have a Sanaig as yet unopened, which I must get to this summer. Wish I could send you some of our sunshine and warmth, it's a lovely day here in SW Ontario! Enjoy your Saturday, maybe with a good book...unless L has a 'list' for you 😜 Cheers, my friend 🥃🥃 Marian 🇨🇦
Kilchoman is a wonderful smaller distilery IMO. Great, full peated releases. I am cutting fabric and helping with a craft prep today. Hopefully the evening is relaxing. Cheers!
It’s amazing how we can get used to the higher ABV and 50% doesn’t seem that intense! I like to have the lower ABV scotches such as a Lagavulin to keep my palette enjoying the 40-plus ABV scotch whiskies as well! I actually get more peat in the cask strength that from a Laphroaig! Laphroaig has never seemed overwhelming with intense peat. Maybe I just really appreciate the higher peat! Some other Islay scotches can sometimes seem more intense which I love! Weird how palettes can be different! Have a great weekend Jon!
Kilchoman never fails to deliver. Need take venture down some of the off core releases. Lots out there to try, but I am confident I won’t be let down. Cheers Jon!
Hope you get across the pond soon. My wife and I visited Kilchoman as part of our belated honeymoon last Sept. Brought my samples home to Canada because I was driving. The Fino is the most unique Kilchoman I’ve tried. Better than the 16 year old oloroso single cask distillery exclusive I would say. Unfortunately I can only afford about 1 bottle of their limited editions a year.
James is going to start asking for a percentage. 😂 Love this side-by-side, and that fino cask sounds intriguing (I like dry whiskies). Good luck to your Oilers ... my Stars tried but couldn't hang with them, and I'm all-in on them ending Canada's Stanley Cup drought. Classy group! Cheers!
Hello Jon! What a perfect weather for peat smoky scotch! I agree that Fino cask one is dry and it needs something sweet to balance it. I remember it kinda has yoghurt kinda smell which is typical note I get from Macallan. I used to mix it with the Kilchoman PX single cask (50/50 ratio) and it was perfect for me to balance the dryness. Slainté. 🥃
Brilliant Jon! I love the Machir Bay CS and yeah I loved every Kilchoman I tried before. All I hear are great things about the Fino so hopefully I will get my hands on one. Cheers!
Oh!! Joel was able to get a new release from Sons of Vancouver - exciting!! - Realms of Rye - Citrus and Botanicals - 100% Rye!! I am really looking forward to trying this new Rye expression from my hometown Sons of Vancouver! A powerful Rye dram is a treat! 59.4% ABV!! This sounds very intriguing!! Is it worth $200 before our huge BC taxes, which included an alcohol tax? We will see! Cheers!
Looking at getting one of these. Though I'm not a peat guy I hear these are very good bottles. And I really like the bottle. I'm a rare breed and pursuit united fan and they both use round bottles.

@@WhiskyNeighbour It's a lot of fun to be able to sip and compare!!

I think this is certainly more fire and ash, but I would say less medicinal notes. That's what I meant to share.
@@WhiskyNeighbour Yup agreed - less medicinal!

They are all good!

Great story! I hope I can visit too. So many wonderful places to go!

That last game was not pretty, but we got it done. Thanks for the kind words!

My first impression was dry too, but odd how much it changed coming back. Thanks again, I may need to try that 50/50!

I hope you can find one. I think over the weekend it grew on me. Kilchoman is so good!
Whoops! Damn spell check. Calling alone meant casking! Love the huge peat!
Lol! I have many comments out there with some strange words. Spell check and dry thumbs, a bad combination!
@@WhiskyNeighbour Definitely!

Well, SOV are some of the best folks making whisky. I have not had this one, but I've loved everything they've put out so far! Cheers!

These are excellent, but they are full peat! Love Rarebreed too!
Who is James?
An amazing friend and supporter of the channel. He has given me the opportunity to enjoy so many different whiskies!
