- Hello there! Thanks for joining me today! I'm Lauren, homeschooling mom of 3 girls. Today, I'm sharing what we used this year for our science curriculum - Abeka's Discovering God's World. Last year I searched all, ALL of the homeschool science curriculums out there and this was the perfect fit for us. If you are looking for an age appropriate, colorful science that covers multiple topics during the year and has simple hands-on activities (BONUS: it has colorful activity pages!), then Abeka might work for you.
Check out what history curriculum we used this year: • HOW I TURNED A TRADITI...

I am currently liking both Abeka & Good and the Beautiful curriculum for most subjects and a couple things from Masterbooks. So I really appreciate all your videos especially the recommendations of what you did (very practical) and the flip throughs. Awesome! Keep doing what you’re doing!! I appreciate it. I have K5, 1st grade next year and a toddler.
Thanks so much for the encouragement 😊😊 I appreciate it!!
4:37 wow! that’s the cutest page in this book!
Thank you for making this video! I really believe that Abeka really does get a bad rap! I loved their kindergarten, but left off using them after that. I actually just ordered my upcoming 4th and 5th grader their Science because of this video! Thank you for sharing! ☺️
Sooo true about traditional curriculum being talked about with a more negative slant amongst more eclectic homeschoolers!
Thanks for the review! 😄
Yea….traditional curriculum does kinda take a lot of heat. When it comes to curriculum my philosophy is to each their own, and everything works for SOMEBODY so no need to knock any style.
Thanks for being here!
We love hands on science learning!!! I’m not always Hoi at doing them tho. I’ve not thought of how I’ll add my youngest daughter into our science, this could be good for her science as we drive in deep with my older kids!!! We add on experiments but I doubt I would for my youngest daughter for a while. I would add on play based science learning!!!
This was really really for younger kids. My girls all really enjoyed it! Some experiments, but most of them were very simple and basic!
Thank you! Your review was funny and very informative. I think we'll try Abeka for first grade this year.
Nice!!
Very helpful! I tried TGATB Mammals and we liked it, but it was a little too much. I want something a little lighter. 😊
Yes I get that! We held off on TGTB for 2 years because it was too much at the time, but Abeka was perfect!
We have loved apologia but I am wondering if I should wait a few years on it. I have a 1st and 3rd grader also this year and I'm beginning to wonder.... how much of this will they remember?
Also, did you buy a workbook for each kid?
I just bought one book and read it aloud and we did the exercises orally
Hi! Thank you so much for the flip through! Are there any scripture references within the science book, or just general Christian statements?
Both!
I love watching your videos. Thank you for all the great advice. Does abeka have an audio cd that could go with the text?
Thank you! No they don’t. They video lessons but no audio books or cds
Loved this review we are planning on using Abeka science next year, how many days a week do you do science with Abeka?
Which level of Abeka science are you going to use?
Emily - I just saw this comment again and totally answered someone else’s question in my reply to you 🤦🏻♀️. We use Abeka science 2 days a week. The 2nd grade version was only intended to be used for a partial year so we stretched it to last all year by doing it twice a week.
Did you also purchase the teacher guide ?
No just read from the readers
Did you buy only one student workbook? Or one for each child?? Thank you for your videos!
I just got one and read from it. The questions we did aloud. But if you want them to write in the book, one for each
Hello! I realize this is an older video but maybe you can still answer my question - how many lessons per week?
We did 2-3 (sometimes just 1)
You liked this last year but then you switched to Good and beautiful? Is there a reason for that? You may have a video saying why you switched- if so, sorry!
No worries…I just mentioned it briefly in another video. So we really like Abeka 2nd grade but every year I reassess each subject. I had narrowed it down to Abeka 3rd grade which my girls likes and TGTB because I felt like they were finally old enough for it (TGTB was too much for us before this year). I let them choose and although they liked both, they all ultimately wanted to try TGTB.
I absolutely agree with you that Abeka gets a bad rep from a lot of homeschoolers. It's almost as if it's not cool to do traditional lessons anymore. Abeka is working so well for us and my child is excelling. I'm not good with the hands on experiments, but my child loves them, so I'm looking for additional material to make Abeka perfect for her. If you have any advice, I would very much appreciate it.
My middle daughter loved this science more than other sciences we have tried. Nothing wrong with traditional at all, ESPECIALLY if your kids are enjoying it ❤️
Abeka can be very much "School at Home" if you strictly follow the curriculum. You can make it work for you, though. Relaxed homeschoolers can use it as well. I used to stick closely to the lesson plans but it was just too much. Now we teach off the worksheets and use the readers.
