Funny how this music was part of a DLC, yet is more impactful than most of the other music in the base game. I found this out indirectly, since I first played the game on Legendary Edition.
RatchildUK yeap. the music was generally ok... then this one came out of nowhere, I was like whoa, easily the most epic combat music of the whole trilogy
ME2 is one of the few games that actively made me seek out its soundtrack. Thankfully most of the DLC continued its tradition of epic music (It's a shame that Zaeed's loyalty mission just used recycled music.) Plus, I love that Overlord is the one mission in the entire ME universe where brutally pistol whipping someone is the Paragon option.
I've searched far and wide for this soundtrack ever since the first time I finished ME3 many years ago. Every time I finished another ME run, I would search for this... but of course I would find nothing since I only checked the ME3 OSTs. It is now late 2017 and I finally played the Overlord DLC when I heard this theme. Blew my mind, and here I am. Finally. Fucking finally found it.
This embodies the struggles of Mass Effect. The fight against impossible odds, enemies in every direction, and epic music at your back. I feel like if any losing army, no matter how small, heard this song, they would charge forward and win.
I was too invested in this. All I could think of after hearing David cry "QUIET! PLEASE! MAKE IT STOP!" was "Hang on, David, I'll save you. I'll make it stop! Just hang in there!" Over and over as I kept the upload from happening. I have a brother who's autistic so this hit home with me. Hard. Even playing pure Renegade, I couldn't choose anything but to save him. "The square root to 906.01 equals 30.1. It all seemed harmless..." I have no shame in saying I cried like a baby when it blacked out on this line. This music captured my determination to press on and save a true innocent life. Yeah maybe I was too into this DLC. It's just a game, I know, but I regret nothing. It only reminds me of what's truly important and how far I'll fight to protect them.
I'm autistic, so the way David was treated made me furious. I play Paragon, but if there were a Renegade action to shoot and kill Archer, you bet your ass I'd do it. What he did to David was more than just unethical. It was inhumane, and monstrous.
@@madquest8 I haven't seen anything in either of their war assets suggesting leaving David helps the Geth/Quarians. Considering his brother ends up euthanizing him anyways there's literally no benefit to leaving him.
This, Shadow broker and Bring Down the sky DLC are probably the best DLC that I have ever had the pleasure to play. Just the right amount of action, feels and story to make it better than the actual main game :D
One of the best combat themes of the series and defiantly my favorite of ME2. The 14 min loop is great when I want a little more motivation pumping weight at the gym, or just doing anything that could use an adrenaline rush.
I will never understand why Chris Lennertz did not get the main composer job for ME3. No disrespect to Clint Mansell, but they already had a great composer in their midst.
m13579k Possible, but either way, I think he was a good choice. ME3 does go for a much darker, more emotional tone, and I think Mansell handled that very well. And you can decry getting a "big name" as a bad thing, but it frankly seems odd to complain that the guy who scored frikkin' Requiem is doing a video game series you love.
As much as I love Mansell, I totally agree. He is great for making epic and long build ups which worked in some cases, but Chris, and music like this is what ME thrives on. Heck, they used this song in the mission where you save Jacob! It finally felt like a real ME game after that.
David is a truly tragic character, I really felt for him, so I told his brother I didn't know what happened to David which caused his despicable to commit suicide.
Is it just me or do the Geth-related missions just get the best, most epic tracks? This and Tali's recruitment mission theme are some of the best music in the game.
Well ofc you shouldn’t You need to put David in Grissom Academy (if I remember correctly the name of academy, bc I finished the trilogy years ago), so there are people who will care properly genius uniques like David. And in ME3 you will need to protect that Academy against Cerberus invasion. There will be Jack as well, she will take care of students (David among them)
Honestly this was a sad dlc though as he didn’t mean to hurt people. He kind of lost his mind connected to a machine and showing the danger of why not to mix a human mind with machines
Oh, sorry for late reply. You can burn a music CD and then copy the files to your xbox. Then set up a playlist, mute the in-game music and use the xbox-button menu to start your playlist. I make custom playlists for a lot of different games, it's a nice feature.
Bad insanity memories: Vanguard Shepard: I'm charging that prime. Miranda and Tali: Please dont. Vanguard Shepard charges the Prime and dies thanks to the Pyro nearby. Infiltrator Shep: Grunt kill those geth while I position myself. Garrus/Zaeed provide cover. Whole party kill.
I could t associate it with vega due to me being introduced to it via overlord in me2 and Davids theme is this melody it follows. I can see what u mean tho
Yes, at gellix I think with all of the Ex-Cerberus (which is where you'll find Jacob in ME3 if he survived the Suicide Mission in ME2) when your fixing the Anti Air guns.
"Audio conditions indicate an aesthetically pleasing soundtrack is nearby. Organic lifeforms may wish to take note."

Best combat music in the entire series? Perhaps so.
+edgecrusherhalo I have to agree with that statement... :D
+edgecrusherhalo Kasumi theme is damn close...
Very good, but Infiltration is my favorite.
What about Therum?
One of the best no doubt
Easily my favourite piece of combat music in the trilogy.
so agree but didnt fit the scary theme of the dlc tbh
RatchildUK yeap. the music was generally ok... then this one came out of nowhere, I was like whoa, easily the most epic combat music of the whole trilogy

Heavy impact drumbeats, blaring trumpets - it makes you feel like you could crush a colossus in your hands! Damn that image is really badass.
Dude that's not the vibe of this song at all. It depicts a difficult fight basically.
I tried to melee a colossus and I regret everything.

Overlord is underrated.

"sounds like a suicide mission. I volunteer." - Jacob
Fighting Cerberus in ME3 with the overlord theme helping Jacob was amazing. Only wish David and Gavin Archer were there.
+dathip Well Archer is in this mission
+dathip Gavin is there, David is with jack
Just Petrusion No I mean together.
You mean he "was" there^^ At least if you tell him you'd know nothing about his brother and grissom academy like I did^^

Nah, you’re not “too into it.” Don’t apologize for passion. Embrace it. Not enough people do.
I let his brother carry on... galaxy at stake and all that. I think it helps win both the Geth and Quarian fleets later on... not 100% sure.

I concur. Both Overlord and Shadow broker were really well done.
ME 2 was really two games. the suicide mission and then these side action/espionage missions in all the dlc
Citadel with Leviathan are also amazing

Brilliant DLC. Brilliant ending. Brilliant music.
Playing this while playing a survival mission in warframe is over the top madness!
I will never understand why Chris Lennertz did not get the main composer job for ME3. No disrespect to Clint Mansell, but they already had a great composer in their midst.
I think Mansell may have been a better fit for the tone they were going for.
bigfatcarp93 more like EA just wanted a "big name" attached to draw attention.
m13579k Possible, but either way, I think he was a good choice. ME3 does go for a much darker, more emotional tone, and I think Mansell handled that very well. This music was recycled to fighting Cerberus troops in ME3. It's still awesome none the less.
You make it sound like recycling grade A combat tracks is a bad thing.
Try listening for "Duel of the Fates" in the Star Wars prequels.
It makes sense since they put Archer in that level with Jacob.
It also plays on the mission where your objective is to save an Admiral on Rannoch but have to disable anti air guns to destroy the jamming tower.
Turian Havoc [26th Armiger Legion] I consider this the geth theme
The degree to which this theme is flawless is truly something to behold
David is a truly tragic character, I really felt for him, so I told his brother I didn't know what happened to David which caused his despicable to commit suicide.
Yeah definitely. It's featured in the Jacob mission though. That's a step in the right direction ^^
