    I have the 36 inch model of that grill. And while I am very pleased with it, overall just a word of caution. If you are using wood chips, mixed with your pellets, I find that even at a 50-50 mix. The grill will not ignite without putting a handful of straight pellets in the hopper. The wood chips definitely provide a smokier flavor, but it becomes a bit of a pain in the ass because when the grill doesn’t ignite and you shut it down, it wants to go through the cool down sequence even though the grill never got hot in the first place. If you just go ahead and unplug it, it confuses The controller and it still doesn’t know what to do. So I have found that the best results is to just take a handful of pellets throw them in the hopper and start it that way if you’re going to use a 50-50 mix.

      I’ve not had an issue with ignition while using wood chips, but I haven’t gone as far as 50/50… too expensive 🤣

    Love my LSG 42 Pellet. Came from a $1k GMG and such an upgrade. I really considered the Campchef Woodwind Pro as well so will be interesting to see how they compare... though even though it's a lot more I had to go for the quality, even though I think that wood drawer is really nice. Also after my GMG I was determined to NOT have a pellet smoker with a long auger run to the center and a hard to clean out burn pot. The Knotty Wood Pellets I would use would clog out the GMG and burn pot every cook and after rain etc jams across the auger sometimes too. The LSG is so easy to clean, pop that burn pot out, the short open auger and chute prevents most jams etc. Then a deeper clean out every once in a while.

      You won't need a blanket to maintain a set temp. A blanket may reduce the amount of pellets you burn, but it'll hold whatever temp from 160-450° you want. That steel is thick and there's not a single leak point in that chamber besides a tiny port (with cover) for the temp probes.

      I live in Alberta, Canada. I’ve smoked at -15 Celsius(about 5 degrees F) and this thing runs like a champ. It obviously requires more pellets at lower temps but once it is up to temperature it holds heat very well.

    I've had a few pellet grills over the years and the one consistent problem with them all is you don't get the smoke flavor like you do with an offset stick burner. For anyone that owns this and likes their BBQ smokey how would you say the smoke flavor is on this compared to a stick burner?

    I want to see some cooks first and foremost, but a comparison with the Woodwind Pro is what i really want to see.. A cook with the Woodwind using chunks and the LSG with AND without a mix of wood chips. Can also compare and demonstrate the examples of build quality. Thinner, lighter weight "stainless" steel (at half the price of the LSG), compared to the build quality of good ol' american steel.

    Have you used a Yoder YS640s? If so how is the smoke compared to it?
    Has the gasket placement been a problem as far as drippings and deglueing?
    The auger output location and lack of shielding seems prone to food/oil buildup. Has it been a problem?

    When you compare this to that Camp Chef (which is cool for a chinese made inexpensive smoker) make sure you compare this to that using just pellets on both. Then using pellets and wood chunks on the camp chef and chips and pellets @ 50/50 mix on the Lonestar...

      @@AndersonsSmokeShow I recently went from a Recteq to a Yoder because I actually had a couple of issues with burn back through the auger. After the first time I just couldn't trust the unit after shutdown. The shutdown program on the Recteq is only 300 seconds which in my opinion is far too short. I've been happy with the Yoder but also love that it and the Lonestar are made in the US. That's a huge plus for me. Looking forward to the comparison. Both Fireboard, both have sear feature, etc.

    Great video. One tip: DO NOT run any wood chips other than the ones available at Lone Star Grillz. I missed that part in Greg's video from Ballistic BBQ and had an auger jam due to some of the wood chips being too long. It ran great for a while then jammed. Can't wait to see some cooks and comparisons.

    Thanks for taking the time to do this video. Since the fire box is completely removable, I would have liked to see how the electrical connection is made when it's slid into place, and how durable that connection is when removing and replacing the fire box over time. Also, when this thing is running, what is the maximum amperage draw? Any heating appliance draws more amps, so it matters where you plug it in. I'm guessing it's designed to run on a 20 amp 120v circuit wired with 12-2, but if other things are on the same circuit, it matters.

    • @AndersonsSmokeShow
      @AndersonsSmokeShow  6 месяцев назад

      The firebox has no electrical connection or components. It simply holds the pellets as they burn. In terms of the current draw, the most comes at ignition.. then it’s only auger and fan for the rest of the cook. I have a clamp on meter that I can use to see current on start up, I’ll do it this weekend when I pull it out to cook.
