Thanks for a very interesting review of your airstrip! You really have to be "on your toes" to fly in and out of that; you chaps make it look easy! Being on speed and nailing the touchdown spot are not optional. It's very much like bush flying in Alaska; landing on a slope precisely, with proper energy management to arrive at "the top" without adding power, or having an overrun. Kudos to all!
I never get bored of seeing the Naylands slope. I think I first stumbled on The Flying Reporter laughing himself silly as you took him up, and from there I started following you. If my pre-covid plans had progressed I may have even managed to fly in myself to say "hello" but those plans fell off the back of the back burner ! Can I wish you, John, Duncan et al at Naylands a very merry Christmas and I look forward to watching all your 2025 adventures, albeit not always at 7am on a Friday morning.
That video with Jon was some time ago now! :) He couldn't get over it but never mentioned it on his channel. His subscriber numbers have gone through the roof now. Well done him. Thanks for the support and I will pass on your message to the others
In terms of showing the steepness of Nayland, this is the best video so far. Not for the fainthearted! I've just passed my NPPL GST so who knows - perhaps one day I'll find myself 'flying the hill' (NOT just yet though!). Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you, Tim. Here's to more flying adventures in 2025. 🙂👍
@@JodelFlyer Definitely a 'one shot' situation! I flew gliders briefly so can relate to the idea of no go-around, but I've no doubt Nayland is a little buttock-clenching until you develop the skills.
Thanks for the video. As a crop duster, I found steep sloped hills to be useful in areas of many 40 acre fields with fences. A flat quarter mile, if rough or the grass is high, doesn't make a suitable spray strip even with a light load in the hopper. A steep quarter mile, like your field, makes takeoff with a full hopper possible.
Well from the Bottom of the World in the fartherest part of the Empire being NZ. Have a Hoot at Christmas and a Darn drink in the New Year. Great vids Tim keep them coming at this more leisurely pace. 😅❤😂 I can see ya travelling as a Posse now you 3.😅😂 Be well live long and Prosper as one great man was heard to say a while back😮😅😂❤.
Super to see all those aircraft thanks Tim. I'm always a bit sad remembering that Johns RV4 got written off. It was a fine machine. Happy Christmas to you too from stormy North Wales :D
I've been following you a long time now Tim, and that's the best review of Nayland I've seen. An excellent explanation of the slope (which is bigger than I thought). Seasons greetings to you all, and keep vlogging if you can, it's clear to see you have some loyal followers. I'll look forward to seeing you again on 2025! 👌🏻👍🏻
You have been there for a long time now and I do appreciate the support. Still find it hard to believe that my videos are being watched in France, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, America, Canada, Brazil and Ghana and they are just the ones I know! Think that makes it every continent apart from Antarctica ? 🤣
@@JodelFlyer And rightly so! You have a unique delivery Tim, and people who follow you will stay with you because of it 👍🏻 Well done... and keep going for as long as you enjoy doing it! 👍🏻
Tim, Merry Christmas to you and all your family and friends there in England. I am an 80 year old 7000 hour CFII ATP and I very much enjoy your accent :) I live in Arizona in the USA and fly my light sport aircraft frequently! I love your videos and look forward to seeing more in the future. Troy
Well hope to fly you to soon from the oppersite direction 😂 enjoy the videos and good to see the hill and not many around the area 😅 have a great christmas and New year🎉
Every time I fly over Nayland the hill never looks that bad - great summary of a unique airfield Tim - Wishing you a Merry Christmas and all the best for 2025!
.... and seasons greetings from Thailand to you, John and Duncan. To you Tim many thanks for yet another year of hard work in the production of these lovely videos and hopefully we can look forward to more in the coming year. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Best wishes to you and John and thanks for the videos this year. Im proud to say I have flown with John, and he kindly flew me in just one of those many aircraft that he has owned. ❤
Great video. Always love hearing about the airstrip, and it's going on. Have a great Xmas, and New year. My goal for 2025 is to come visit, as I've been saying it for for too long. Really enjoyed the clips of the landings too. Best wishes to John too, very impressed with just how.much time amd experience on type he has. Welldone, all the best, Tim
Thank you and best wishes for the Season. As a grounded ex pilot and glider pilot is a pleasure to be able to share the cockpit with you. My sincere thanks for the privilege, my type of flying and camaraderie Stewart
When I flew past, on route to Stow in the Bobcat , I thought that if the wind was coming up the hill I could land on the top into wind and take off into wind in the Kub 🙂, by passing the slope 🙂
I have landed on 14 in the Nord when the wind was strong from the south but we do have to be careful not to upset the local neighbours close to that threshold.
With the onset of christmas and the weather changing it will be hard going not getting my usual Jodel Flyer fix with my tea and toast. Wishing you all a merry christmas and a happy flyable new year safe landings
What a brilliant look at Nayland Tim, amazing that John has over 5,000 hours, how many years have you been based at Nayland ? Very Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year from Chris in Devon.
Any chance that somebody could give the approximate (or exact!) coordinates of this airfield, please? I can't find it near Wattisham base. I live in Ipswich. Thanks.
@@hls6925 I tried to post a Google Maps link, but I see the comment disappeared. Just pull up Google maps and enter "Nayland Airfield" in the search box. I will copy and paste the coordinates for the hangar.

A great video - I love the variety and the participation by your mates. A very Merry Christmas to all!
Thank you. They are a good bunch.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and family also. I do enjoy seeing your country from the air, thank you. Cheers!
Thank you. Glad you enjoy the videos
I loved the "Last of the Sumer Wine" music, made me chuckle. 14% slope wow.
I thought the soundtrack well suited the moment! 😊
Brilliant video and superb thumbnail. This should get people watching it's excellent, thanks Tim, we need to do some more drone stuff in the spring.
Thanks Terry and that sounds good for the new year.

Once you get used to it, it isn’t too bad but you always have to ready to catch what the hill throws at you! 😊

@JodelFlyer my little plane is so quiet and I can do such a steep decent I don't think anyone would notice. :-)
Another great video sir! 👏🏼👍🏼
I have to admit, I think I would find that approach a little intimidating 😮💨

I fly a fair bit in France to some of the alti ports often used by Jodels. Have you ever thought of visiting some of these?
Seen some really interesting ones on Speed Jo Jo’s RUclips channel.
@ yes that’s who I watch as well! Just found your channel, I’m based at EGMC, will watch some. Thanks

I can see why people might be worried about flying in to your field. Weathers rubbish so can understand you spending time in the warm and with family.
Not too bad when you get used to the slope
