Quarry was an animal. Those Ali fights weren't really fights, they were just the Ali show. When guys actually fought with Quarry, they had to pay a physical price, even if they managed to beat him. Easily one of the most underrated heavyweight's of his era. In almost any other era, he would have been a champion, but he just happened to fight during probably the most stacked era of heavyweight's there has ever been.
That interview at 7:45 is scary. This is 5 years before the dementia documentary that was done on Jerry (the one where his brother was taking care of him and was inducted into the hall of fame). Look at his eyes, they look lifeless. His voice in this clip is soft but you can still understand him pretty well. Absolutey insane how in just 5 years he aged 20 years and you could barely understand him in that documentary. His last fight just sealed the deal on his brain damage. So crazy.
I’ve always loved George Foreman but what respect and class to say that he avoided Quarry. I don’t know if I believe him because I just don’t picture big George avoiding anyone really, but that’s extremely high praise. Jerry fought you in a phone booth man and just wouldn’t let you breathe. He was exciting I’d actually love to see how him and George would have turned out. Two different weight classes practically tho or should have been.
Thats absolutely true. When Norton fought Quarry, Jerry was way out of shape and drank everyday during the layoff. He was only given a couple of weeks to get ready.
Quarry was tough and a great fighter, against Frazier he cut as with Ali, he hit Frazier with some good punches before the stoppage. Such a good, talented fighter but didn't know when to walk away. RIP Jerry
All those words sound good, but with boxing either you win or you go home with your butt kicked, that's like saying any ship is great, until it capsize then it starts sinking, just like alot of these boxers
A world class fighter regually rated in the top ten in the division greatest age. it was a golden period for heavyweight boxing we shall not see its like again rip Jerry
Jerry quarry great heaveyweight contender he laid it all out in every fight he had it is so sad to see a guy take that kind of punishment my heart akes you are now at peace jerry quarry
Jerry Quarry always put everything out there. His left hook was a killer. So sad to see the brain damage those guys suffered. Boxing is a brutal sport. 200lb guys who know how to throw a punch? I can't stand Gayweather but he rarely gets hit with big shots, which others should learn from. But then he is boring too. Loved the Quarry brothers...
Jerry always looked absolutely broken whenever the ref stopped any fight, as if he let down the whole world and everybody would look down on him. Took way too much head punishment. While he fought and often beat the best guys, just not the very cream of the crop.
Jerry MNGR when they stopped the fight said to Jerry ( you couldn't hit him in the ass with a handful of rice ) and he again was cut , but I think some fights he wasn't there mentally , but then he shows that he should get a shot at the belt but he just didn't have the talent to be the big guys like 1) ALI 2) FOREMAN 3) FRAZIER . He was like Tex Cobb not good enough to be the champ
I never liked Burt sugar. Something about him bothers me. “Shameful ending” maybe to the outside viewer but quarry was a fighter. Win or lose he was a fighter. There’s no shame in climbing into the ring and throwing hands with another man….. Burt sugar would know nothing about that.
Burt Sugar was an attorney with a law degree from U of M. He knew absolutely nothing about what it was to train, fight and bleed. He wore a fedora and smoked a cigar to look "tough" but probably couldn't go 2 rounds with a 5 year old. I've always despised his masquerade.
The bellflower bomber lot of guys talk a lot of smack on here about little Jerry he might have taken too many punches as he climb the ladder time and time again but he did not quit and a lot of this b******* goes to his father I say that with great grace Jack I called him jack off got them fighting at age 3 by the time he was five yeah just say he was fighting too much brother Jerry is the only heavyweight still with a record in the Golden gloves heavyweight division of knocking out all five people who tried in the same tournament the record has not been achieved or broken now you can say what he want he might have been too short little too small he had great feet goodpop and he was an excellent counter-puncher Jerry like to drink a little bit he got into cocaine and the f****** women some called his wives use them like a pincushion but one thing you got with the Irish you got to fight and that's why I respect brother Jerry quarry rest in peace let that head heal up you'll be fine brother Jerry 🤗💯💝
Reminder.......Ali lost a title fight to a guy who only had 8 professional fights. Leon Spinks beat him on all 3 scorecards. Not knocking Ali in any way, but Quarry was no push over either. In fact their records are closer than most think. Ali had 5 less fights than Quarry. Ali had 61 fights with 5 losses and 37 knockouts. Quarry had 66 fights with 9 losses and 33 knockouts.

Quarry should have went into show business. His impersonation o Ali was spot on.

You contributed exactly jackshit to the discussion. Good job. Psssh...
Jerry Quarry was really THE great white hope. True legend.
Gerry Quarry Was A Very Good Fighter In An Era Of Of The Greatest Era In Boxing For The Heavyweights!!!
A world class fighter regually rated in the top ten in the division greatest age. it was a golden period for heavyweight boxing we shall not see its like again rip Jerry
If there would have been a crusher weight division when He was in his prime, Jerry would have ruled it.
I just had lunch today with r cranmer who fought jerry in last fight.
Jerry quarry great heaveyweight contender he laid it all out in every fight he had it is so sad to see a guy take that kind of punishment my heart akes you are now at peace jerry quarry

Too be honest I'm surprised 😮 Quarry beat some top fighters, I will definitely read up on him.👍
A guy generally doesn't get an opportunity to fight the champion unless he beats some top guys first
One tough bastard was Quarry!
To bad he wasn't that tough in thinking in the ring
@@frederickhunter4649 Is that a bit of arrogance there?

Ali made quarry look like a girl 👧 scout

Thats when Men where Men no Defence .
It’s a cautionary tale at best.

Marciano only undefeated hw 49-0 in history,

I’m gonna scramble some eggs
Quarry was a bum
You know absolutely everything about absolutely nothing
Not hardly.
You have done a wonderful job describing yourself.
U mean yourself lolol
1:04 "this isn't Quarry " like he would have beaten Ali. Who was it then? Quarry wouldn't beat Ali on his best day. Boy hush. 🤣
Go eat some watermelon boy.
True.
Boy hush
Hey boy, Rocco Marciano is 49-0. What’s Ali’s record? I’m AXING you a question!🤣
